I studied Swahili before I arrived and had lessons for the first two weeks.

It's fairly easy to get from basic to intermediate because it has a simple structure and is phonetic (as opposed to the word phonetic).

Hi Godfrey, I just had dinner and spoke to my parents on the phone.

    2007-06-04 03:17:10.0

Godfrey, my suggestion would be to study as much as you can, but be broad. Look at a variety of things. And become friends with smart people who have done what you want to do. Ask them for help and guidance. I'm sure there are plenty in Uganda to help you.

    Read lots of books.

Enjoy what you do, or else do something else.

Mick - the nasal stops before a plosive, are they hard to learn to pronounce? or are they easy to get a hang of?

what about the l and the r sounds

    2007-06-04 09:02:26.0

godfrey - I suppose we use madam or ma'am here when adressing a lady....

But we're among friends here:) Just 'dek' will do
