Today is the Labor Day for those of you in the U.S. and Canada, this is a day to give the working man, well person a day off. So working people what are ya doing? Since I am in Oz no Labor Day fun for me, but we get a long weekend thanks to APEC!

I have just returned from a hot and entertaining Labor Day Eve which embraced an early morning surf, sight of the holy temple of Paramahansa Yogananda
(familiar to MJ Wells), race track at Del Mar, winning $300 in my first bet, on with unbelievably beautiful girls to a party and now back to the beach house. Good Night.

So, what are the highlights of Labour Day in the States? What kind of activities do you have?
Like I know BBQ and fireworks are the big things for 4th of July.
Yeah basically bbqs and sometimes parade or two, it is also the first weekend of football play, so lots of football parties.
Why does everywhere else have more holidays than we do..
Lots of other places have Independence Day, Britain should get a holiday celebrating the fact that we never got taken over by some other country.. well, not since the Norman invasion, but that was in 1066, doesn't count any more

The Channel Islands are not part of the UK or Britain, nor colonies. They are Crown Dependencies, and in all historical reality a part of the Duchy of Normandy.

Just realised - I originally said that Britain hadn't been successfully invaded since 1066, since we eventually won WW2 I don't think temporary occupation really counts as a successful invasion

I don't think he was after an independence day, just another UK holiday, because he thinks we don't have as many as everyone else. Which is almost true. Depending on where you live in the UK the number is about the same 9 or so. Though the US has 11.
Japan seem to hold the record at 19 public holidays.

Well, if life sucks afterwards everyone will vote for one of the crazy racist parties that want us out of Europe to the extent of us declaring Britain to be a continent in its own right

That's not the racist part - just that all the racist parties are also anti-Europe because they want Britain to be as British as possible and to get rid of everyone else (Europeans, black people, anyone who isn't 100% british...)
and there aren't really any moderately anti-Europe non-racist parties... the Conservatives might be a little less inclined to join up because they don't like change.. but they still have to recognise the benefits of being in the community and aren't going to tell Europe to go f* themselves
It amuses me when people talk about 100% british/indian/whatever nationality.
The way I see it, after all these years, it's a moot point. The idea of a 'pure blooded' section of society is outdated, stupid, elitist, irrational and stinks of fear to me.
Everyone should want to be like me - a mongrel. It's more fun that way!

Well, as s'one who was brought up in what many would consider a pretty privileged upper middle class Anglo Saxon existence , I have since learned alot and realise NOBODY should ever be judged by their colour or their creed.
