You don't get a beta invite macvijay ... it's in alpha still. You can try signing up for the alpha from the site Y2K left a link to, but who knows how that'll go. I've done so anyway, and if anything happens I'll be sure to let people here know.

I use Meebo for IMing on the web.  Should I switch to a desktop app?

I just started using trillian - not astra though as far as I can tell to sign up for alpha you need to be a pro user, that is you have to pay for it - and I think it is thoroughly fucking awesome! The sounds it makes are truly wicked & it is just so simple to setup and use rather than running mIRC / MSN / ICQ etc..

Anyone know when the free version of Astra will be available for download?

/edit it seems I don't have to be a pro member after all - just waiting for them to let me know when a spot is open

The very fact that you must pay to be able to use Trillian for Google Talk turns me off the product completely

it's cool but it wipes out a lot of the functions that each messenger on it's own has. i'm back to using msn now

Well, it has always done that.... I used it because it unified all my services, and if it still does that, I'll still use it....

Paying to be able to use Google Talk is very odd tho

does anyone know how to keep/import or whatever, my old contact groups to the astra version of trillian?

i installed it in a different folder just in case, and when i run it it shows only 2 contact groups and puts all the contacts together instead of in different contact groups like before. If i run the old trillian it does show my contacts in their respective groups, and ideas?
