  • Aust v India 2011/12

If the idiot Poms can beat them, any dozy bunch of beach loitering bums should be able to put their stubbie down for long enough to beat them...

  • England vs India (2011)

Clash of the titans.  As it's being billed here in the UK.

India coming off a winning tour in the Windies and England having sent Sri-Lanka home with their tail between their legs...!  It's difficult to find decent odds to back either side.

4 tests and 5 ODI's.  So long as the rain keeps off it looks like a good July/August in the UK. As far as I can work out England have the bowling but India have the batting.  Bring it on, as they say.

  • Aust v Bang 2nd test

It was the Bang in the title that got dear Joy in this thread.  She probably saw a reference to Hussey as well.

  • what you says who should be the Caption of Pakistan in World cup 2011 ?

Just toss a coin.  Neither of them appear to have been involved in any recent betting scams so I guess there is not many others in the team to choose from...

  • Are Days of Ponting Gone?

Ponting is probably still Australia's best batsman and he's still up there with the best in the world with a bat in his hands.  Ok he's been a bit off form recently but how many times has he produced the killer innings and he's still got a few years left in him yet.  I think that his big problem is though that he has never been a very good captain (by world class standards).  The newbies in the Australian team need a a good captain to get the best out of them (unlike the the recent big-guns like Warne, Langer, et-al who needed very little captaincy).

This is, of course, a huge problem for Australia.  If they ditch him as captain, they've got no-one to replace him with and if they do, they will probably deselect him from the team.  That means they lose a brilliant batsman and end up with a captain, in world cricket standards, who has not got the capability to handle the up-and-coming players.

Putting Clarke or White in charge will dilute the captaincy, it won't be much better with Ponting (if at all) but he will go a long way to make up for that deficiency if he performs with the bat to within 25% of his best. Then they may be in contention.

You could say that their preparation couldn't be better.  How many teams go into the world cup with a 6-1 series win under their belts? However, England are the number five ODI side for a reason and to beat India and South Africa they are going to need the best of the best with the bat, bowl and captaincy to match.

  • The Ashes 2010/2011 (use for crap posts)

Not long now.  9 days or so to the start.  I see the Aussies are panicking about their squad.  Can't think why, everyone I talk to or see comments from (who is an Australian), seems to think they have it in the bag.

  • Australia vs India

I watched the highlights of each days cricket, first time I've seen a test that went for 5 days in ages.

    Australia 428 & 192

    India 405 & 216/9

India won by 1 wicket, a very close game indeed.  India did show that they do have the edge in world cricket.

I see also that Australia are 'resting' Ponting,  Watson and Johnson for the ODI's against India.  Presumably they feel that they are their prime players for the Ashes and they don't want to wear them out because they suspect that the Gabba will turn into a slaughterhouse when the England team turn up with all guns blazing at the end of November...

  • England vs Pakistan

Forgot to put a post in here when I created the thread.  Silly me - I've now forgotten most of the bullshit details and since I couldn't be arsed to look at cricinfo I'll just say it was a typical Trent-Bridge Test with a bowling wicket.  Great cricket to watch, despite the low score, and England gave the Pakistanis a good hiding.  Jimmy Anderson got 11 wickets with his swing bowling.  I doubt if that can be extrapolated to a climate with more than 5 minutes of sunshine in every 2 hours type of climate and dry flat pitches that will be around for the Ashes down under though...
