The first serious test for England since the India Tour and last Ashes of what now seems to be years ago.
They might pull out some draws with the help of rain but a few pea-shooter bowlers and mild mannered batsmen against the SA ball smashing batters and rocket launching bowlers, England don't have a hope in hell of winning.
First Test starts today at Lords. I don't think it will be a pretty sight - as ever, we'll see...
Ha. Always nice to have the Yarpies are in town. Hulle gewoonlik praat party kak.
Hulle gewoonlik praat party kak.
Dunno what it means, but it sounds like fun!
Hmmm.... can't decide who I'll support in this match up...
Well, Pietersen has started off well!
'onya Pietersen, go the poms..![]()
England on general principle.
Stumps on first day was quite a shock (after my doom laden predictions) 300 and a bit for 3. Pietersen was rocking with a ton plus and even Bell-boy is into the 60's. I just hope the crap weather doesn't do too much damage...
Cyclone season above the 51st parallel?
hmmm.... everyone going for Eng eh?
Fine! I'll support SA!! Hah!
Is Pollock still playing?
It's any sort of season here. Apparently, the day before yesterday, some parts of the UK had a months worth of rain... The only blue I can see is when my PC does a random freeze...
hmmm.... i notice things have gone quiet in here.
Is it because *shock* *horror* SA started winning?
Again, I mention... It is england....
You supporting SA?
I'd support Antarctica, so long as they were playing England![]()
Actually, it'd be pretty cool if they had a team... no pun intended
LOL! Imagine what the pitch would be like!
Ha! That'd be a fun game to watch!
I'd hope the opposition sends their spinners![]()
I reckon it would skid through fairly quickly.
They'd all be high bouncers. Everyone would get warnings, and there'd be no bowlers left on field. They'll all be sent off. (yes, sent off)
It'll be a real batsmen's game then!
I'd imagine getting sent off and going indoors to get warm would be the goal for many.
LOL!
Is it because *shock* *horror* SA started winning?
There was no "shock" or "horror" about the Proteas starting to win. England lost by displaying a consistent level of batting and bowling incompetence, rather than a random course of idiotic mistakes...
They lost
fuck off...![]()
Sore loser!
Even worse than being sore. The first day of the latest Test was a total, complete and utter pile of shit for England. I think I'm going to emigrate to the Maldives and support their cricket team...
Why not just support SA? Might turn out to be a cheaper endeavour
Emphasis on the cheap.
LOL!
grrrrrrr
Not a bad third day to the current test. England are putting the Proteas through the hoop with some above-average bowling from Anderson and Sidebottom. Whilst our Freddie has really got the hump with the SA players and the umpires. He took out the two openers, Kallis and someone else who's name I can't remember but has a wierd-beard and bald head. England might do something if bad light, rain, plagues or pestulance doesn't interrupt play too much...
Still, the result is no different to what was predicted (by me) in the first place. Th Proteas beat England in the series 2 - 0. Actually it will probably be 3 - 0 because there is another Test left at the Brit Oval.
Add to this the other grand Engand cricket news. Collingwood, after weeks on end of playing like a shit-head, came up with an innings of 135, it didn't help England win though. Anyway, him (Collingwood) has done enough to retain his place in the England squad but (here is the big news) he has resigned as Captain of the England "limited overs" squad (That's Twenty20 and OD 50 to Dek) and even bigger news, Michael Vaughan has resigned as England Test Captain.
I am not the sort of person to break-down in tears over this sort of crap, so I won't. However it is rather depressing that the Ashes is only next summer (northern hemisphere summer, that is) and the England team are in a worse position (if that's possible) than just before the start of the 2006/7 Ashes. In the words of Private Frazer, "We're Doomed"
WHOA
Holy crap!
They took the loss that badly?![]()
Imagine diving for the crease in Antarctica... You'd just keep sliding!
Sorry to go back a few... I've missed a few days and have been wanting to post that for a while
HAHAHAHAHAHA
I get a very funny image in my mind.
Add a goalpost at the end, and you've got a whole new game. If you dive and make it into the goal post, it's not out![]()
Returning to Vaughn's resignation - Pietersen's now got the job.
I like him n everything.... but I'm not sure that's the smartest move![]()
haha - love the goalpost!
*grin*
Well, Pietersen seems to be getting the job done in the final Test: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/cricket/england/7547818.stm
...England finished their opening session on 49-1 having put SA away for less than 200. Andrew Cook dropped the SA Captain, Smith, on the first ball of the day from Harmison - who played a blinder. And you dont often see a wicket taken these days (in first class cricket) off a 93mph yorker which ripped out Amlas middle timber - also our dear old Monty took 2 wickets in 2.5 overs for 2 runs. Any bowler would kill for stats like that.
The big down-side of the day, for England, was Strauss who played no better than I could (I bat at number 11 and am not really good enought to bat there). He threw his wicket away with a thin edge to slips when anyone else would have let it go. Still, a good day for Peitersen (I think he might have to drop the "i" and change the last "e" to an "o" to become more British). As ever, we'll see....
2 wickets in 2.5 overs for 2 runs
In a Sunday comp I once took 4 wickets in 3 overs but they did came at a cost of about 30 runs. Three of the scalps were caught in the deep. Must have been longer than usual boundaries.
Some years ago I cleared up the tail end in one over with a hat-trick plus one for 0 and two balls to spare. That was in our inter local pubs Sunday competion. I don't claim any great skills for doing so because it was already an hour past opening time and everyone was worried about getting a couple of pints in before trooping off home for Sunday lunch... In fact all I got was an hour of piss-taking because I made an effort and the batsmen claimed they threw their wickets.
hmmm.... I always took Mr Dent to be a batsman.....
Ah well, at least England won the final Test. That made the score 2 - 1 to the Proteas. Peitersen got a 100 in his first outing as Captain and averyone seems happy. Now for the Twenty20 and ODI's. I think I might start a new thread for them.
On a funny note, the SA Captain, Smith, takes some good stock from the series win in England, he says it gives his team a "good platform" from which they will give the Aussies a beating. Ah well, I suppose the Aussies are in a bit of a decline these days on account that all their decent bowlers have retired...
(two "Ah wells" in the same post...) Ah well...
Yep. Whatever platform Smith was on last time round coupled with his motorised gob yielded 0-2 and 1 draw away and 0-3 at home.
What Ruski said.^^
