It would "seam" that England are are truly skilled at making use of disadvantages (e.g. lack of batters and bowlers) and have managed to shame the Saffies into a draw at Centurion.  Still at least Jimmy Anderson has created a new record.  He is holds the the distinction of being the Night Watchman who has survived the most nights (or something like that).

True...he did... Just took off for no reason and kept on running after the stumps were broken at Trott's end. Trott hadn't moved and looked incredulous...Just another 10/10 blooper in KP's resume...

Annihilated...  I've got spell checker on my browser so as long as no-one notices it's the Yankee version then I'm OK.  Rather a good win.  First time they've beaten SA by an innings since 1964

    2009-12-30 18:30:05.0

Spot on.  Just goes to show that despite being a bunch of talentless cheating bastards, England can still come up with some pleasing results.

    You'll have to keep waiting

    2009-12-31 02:56:54.0

Well I hope that the good cricket keeps going.

I've booked a few days in Cape Town for the end of this week with my mate George.  Mrs Dent and his wife are coming along but they are going to do something called "the garden route" whilst we watch the cricket. I think it's just as well that they drive on the same side of the road as we do in UK/Australia otherwise there might be a bit of a disaster as I think Mrs Dent will be doing most, or all, of the driving.

    2009-12-31 20:16:39.0

Whoa andro, what's with the Merc avatar? No more Ferrari?

Yes Deezee,  I still support Ferrari, but find it very difficult to support Fandango Alphonzo, so I will have to alternate between Ferrari and Schumi and periodically change avatars..Wink

    2010-01-06 23:56:05.0

    ROFL!

Ok, you take Merc, I'll take Ferrari;)

    2010-01-06 23:59:26.0

I will still support Felipe Massa though.....Just can't support Fandango..(who is already shooting his mouth off, before the season has even begun)..

    2010-01-07 00:03:44.0

Good. I'll support him, and you'll see, he'll beat MassaXP

    2010-01-07 00:08:33.0

Cape Town was rather nice.  Perhaps a tad warm for us Brits but bloody good cricket.  Both sides were a bit unlucky with the pitch. Even stevens with lots of bounce and turn for the first two days, then it became lifeless for a day and a half allowing SA to accumulate a good lead, then it turned into a "normal" wicket for the last day and a half.  The last day after lunch was edge of seat stuff.  The wicket was popping, turning and bouncing but only Steyn and Morkel could do anything with it.  Harris was hopeless and Smith didn't bring his other spinner on until it was nearly too late.  By which time England's tail had enough confidence at the crease to hold on.  Another cracking innings from Colly and Onions (England's two veg)...

I hate flying, turbulence every bloody inch of the way from Cape-Town to Heathrow...  And we got stuck in the snow as soon as we left the main roads near Colchester this morning.  I hate snow!

    2010-01-09 06:12:25.0

Me too, Arthur, but glad you are back safe. Do you think the South Africans are due to be called 'chokers' again?

    2010-01-09 07:13:13.0

Glad to hear the trip was a success Mr Dent!

    2010-01-09 07:23:20.0

I wouldn't have minded staying over for the last test in Joburg, I fancy a win for thew lads there but as ever, we'll see.  More snow while I've been sleeping today, No food in the house and no safe way of getting from our village to some shops.  Mrs Dent is blaming me because I didn't insist on going to a supermarket on the way home this morning.  I just love it when everyone is happy...!

    2010-01-09 12:39:58.0

'No safe way of getting to the shops'

    It's that bad?:O

    2010-01-09 22:54:01.0

The snow was not horrendously bad but our local council has run short of salt and is not spreading it on small roads.  Driving on a couple of inches of compacted snow which has fallen on top of black-ice seems to me to be a bit of a fools game. And now it's melted into slush.  So if the temperature drops again then we'll have frozen slush on top of re-frozen ice.  Managed to get out to the shops yesterday afternoon and into work today.  I think I need an Avenger...

    2010-01-11 07:32:06.0

Oh dear.... that does sound hazardous.

Can you see black ice? I mean, is it obvious?

    2010-01-11 08:04:03.0

It's not actually black.  It's just clear ice and adopts the colour of the road (hence black-ice).  It's a real bastard because you can't see it and it only becomes obvious when your tyres can no longer grip the road...  The UK is one of the worst places in the world for winter driving.  Snow falls, then quickly melts.  This has two effects, the melting snow washes away the salt and then makes it easier to re-freeze - into black-ice.  It's impossible to drive with snow chains or studded tyres because the snow is not guaranteed to be compacted enough on all the roads in an area.  It's actually easier to get around in Scandinavia, Central Europe, Canada etc in the winter 'cos the snow is there all time, or at least the temperature is very rarely above freezing.

    2010-01-11 08:24:17.0

Yeah, I know it's not black, but I was wondering if they'd be easy to spot. If they reflect light differently for example.

    But I guess not

    2010-01-11 08:25:46.0

What I also didn't know is the difference between England and Scandinavia etc. Makes sense though

    2010-01-11 08:26:57.0

    Dent ...

I think I need an Avenger...

    Ruski ...

I was reading your story and was thinking the same. I've a few Landy chums in the old dart who have been out and revelling in the conditions. Towing twats in Volvos etc.

Tomorrow me and the boys are packing a lunch and fishing gear and taking the Avenger out in complete opposite conditions up Teewah beach via the Tewantin Ferry. Should be a right fucking hoot. I showed them the pics ...

    HERE

... of where we will be going and they're off their collective faces with excitement. One may have even shit himself. Or perhaps that was me.

Yeah now back to the cricket ... Sarfers are chokers when they're not being fuckwits. De Willy-ers plays with his balls often enough when he bats. Tosser.

    2010-01-14 03:48:29.0

    Whoa!!

Take me with you! I'll bring my own lunch n everything!

    2010-01-14 03:51:10.0

High tide at 8:23am so we leave at 8:00am and arrive at ferry at 10:00am which should give us 4 and a half hours on the outgoing tide plus about 3 on the incoming. So far the esky is loaded with egg and lettuce sangas, ham and cheese sangas, nutella sangas for Mr Fusspot, heaps of popcorn, about 5 litres of drinking water, two bottles of fizzy drink and two frothy amber jobs for the old man. I gotta tell ya, that nutella is awful stuff. It sticks like shit to a blanket.

    2010-01-14 04:00:25.0

I can haz Nuttella too pls?

    2010-01-14 04:04:39.0

You'll be fighting for them. Hope you like brown bread because he only eats that. Only because it was the first one he had. He's not so much a fusspot ... more a stubborn little turd.

    2010-01-14 04:07:24.0

    HAHAHAHAHAH

    2010-01-14 04:07:36.0

    That'd be your fault then

    2010-01-14 04:07:42.0

So it befits that he has turd sandwiches

    2010-01-14 04:07:51.0

There is no fault. Only what you do and you don't do.

    2010-01-14 04:08:34.0

When you don't or do that's your fault.

    See?

    2010-01-14 04:09:03.0

    Nope.

    2010-01-14 04:25:15.0

Don't come the philosophical prawn with me old girl. You know it's all bullshit.

    2010-01-14 04:36:12.0

    You know I'm right....

    2010-01-14 04:47:23.0

That's a whole different argument and for the record you're wrong but whatever the case it's neither your fault nor mine.

    2010-01-14 04:50:04.0

    Yes, I'm right

That's what I've been tellin ya!

    2010-01-14 04:50:32.0

    No.

    2010-01-14 04:50:43.0

There is no fault. Ask Serena Williams.

    2010-01-14 04:50:56.0

    I wouldn't pay $10000 to insist that

    2010-01-14 04:51:20.0

She can afford it. I wouldn't take her on. I suspect she'd hold her own (nuts) in the mens comp.

    2010-01-14 04:52:14.0

    Possibly...:)

    2010-01-14 04:52:32.0

Looks like winning the toss continues to be a bit of a curse in SA.  Strauss out first ball and now it's 86-4.  I give in...!

    2010-01-14 05:16:17.0

    Oopsh...

Maybe your presence was their lucky charm

    2010-01-14 05:22:48.0

I can assure you, I am neither charming or lucky...

    2010-01-14 05:24:40.0

    Least you've got snow?

    2010-01-14 05:25:12.0

Er, not quite.  You are forgetting I live in the UK.  Some of the UK still has a lot of snow but in the south-east of England it is pissing down and driving is now dangerous because visibility is well below 50 yards in the fucking fog!

    2010-01-14 05:29:54.0

    D'oh.

    umm.... least you have ice?

    *hands Mr Dent some scotch*

    2010-01-14 05:30:26.0

Yes, but not on the road... Not until tomorrow morning when the rain and clouds have cleared overnight and the temperature will, once again be well below zero, then we'll have miles on end of skating rinks and even the Landy's will be in the shit...!

    2010-01-14 05:32:45.0

    Oath....

Do you go to work in those conditions?

    2010-01-14 05:33:44.0

Work from home.  I now have 20mbs broadband with an Down/Up ratio of 4-1 so it's almost as good as being in the office.

    2010-01-14 05:35:15.0

    Oh good. That's a relief.

ummm... I trust you have stocked up on food? Otherwise I imagine you getting nagged all day:P

    2010-01-14 05:37:10.0

    Gidday Dent

    2010-01-14 05:43:46.0

So sweet watching the Grumpies reunite

    :)

    2010-01-14 05:56:03.0

    Get fuckerd

    2010-01-14 06:22:15.0

What he said.  England hammered out for 180...  Just as well I left some rain with them to stop play!

    2010-01-14 09:09:16.0

Geesas... that's almost as bad as Australia's Sydney performance.

'Cept Aust managed to win it...:P
