I was on the intial beta tests of Ning, Squidoo,... I still have "offerings" in both but have not had time to keep the effort up (while involved in my own startup) ... both of these were interesting concepts but unlikely to become the 'next great thing'

After getting an invite from the folks at Vudu I declined to participate after going through their 50 question based entry form that is a ploy for gathering marketing information (that is, age, sex, income, purchase habits, what I have in the house both in technology -- although they didn't ask about my state of the art popcorn popping machine, they did ask about every other piece of computer, radio, tv, and recording and playback mechanism that I own or intend to purchase now or at any time in the remaining life of this world -- and in number of kids. Oh they also asked about how I have the house wired... Internet outlet next to the TV? for example)...
I'll give my time to companies looking for beta testing, not marketing survey takers -- as I suggested to them in my reply, if they want this information they should ask after having built a relationship of trust, not before.

Re: Chris' post..
I was one of the others on the side of the "excitement" ... interesting to be doing two conversations in real time... between myself and dekrazz, I was suprised at how well you kept up... but probably hard for others to follow and catch up I would think... It should be VERY INTERESTING if there are more than a handful with cross conversations going on at one time... Hundreds WILL be unmanageable if all are involved... but I think you'll find the ratio of "lurkers" to active responders rises quite quickly in that case.
