I'm applying to try and get an invite to the Private Beta, and maybe start a group once we get in?

Play around with the Test pages... really great tool!

    from Mashable:

STIXY is a new whiteboard collaboration tool. It’s currently in private beta, but you can still play around with a few test pages if you’d like.

The tools provided by Stixy are very easy to use. Add widgets to your whiteboard such as text boxes, photo frames, document icons and to do items. Documents don’t appear in a viewable widget box such as with Scribd, but work more like box.net, granting you and others access to open and download the document for yourself. Images are displayed directly on the screen and can be easily resized, and Stixy also provides a couple of basic photo effects options. Everything can be moved on your whiteboard using drag’n'drop ease, and your documents can also be shared with others for online collaboration.

Stixy has a strong design and some good basic tools. As there are no web-based word-processing options or the ability to chat, Stixy will have quite a time facing its competition. Perhaps they could add the option of inserting your own widget, for Scribd or video purposes. Rival Vyew has far more tools for document creation that mimic a Word Processor. Some tools such as Zude go after the personal creator side of a user, while Stixy goes after the business necessities of a user.

    Who wants in?

    2007-07-15 11:45:53.0

Ah, okay I got contacted after applying for an invite:

Thank you for showing an interest in Stixy! Many have showed a great interest in Stixy lately, and we couldn't be happier. We are proud of what we have achieved, and hope that you'll find Stixy as exciting, useful, and fun as we do.

However, we are currently in the process of migrating our systems from a development environment to a more robust production environment, and, unfortunately, during this phase, we don't accept any new beta sign-ups. But as soon as our systems are up running, meeting our criterias for performance and security, we will send you an invitation. You are at the top of our list!

The migration will be done within the next three weeks. So, hang in there, and you'll have an account soon.

Guess we'll have to play around for a while with the testing boards:

While you wait, be sure to have a look at our example boards:

    Use Stixy at work
Upload your work, add comments, share files, and more. Invite your co-workers and start collaborating.

    Research
Copy and paste from, and link to, any web site. Share with your friends to get their input.

    As a photo album
Upload photos from your last vacation. Design, and add a few comments if you like. Allow "guest view" so the whole wide web can see, but not add, edit, or delete.

I think stixy COULD be productive... looks like it could also be a major waste of time judging by the demo page.

atuarre - thanks for the invite, guess i am first to post a message to you on stixy.

    2007-08-12 08:13:36.0

Who are you on Stixy click spice? I did get one thank you on there, was that you?:)

    2007-08-12 08:14:50.0

    yes thats me clickspice

    2007-08-12 08:15:32.0

Yeah, I didn't see the clickspice at the bottom:) Thanks for the lovely thank you note!

    2007-08-12 08:15:36.0

do you know how to add a web site link in a note?

    2007-08-12 08:16:24.0

it appears that any invited guest can change the stixy title and description

    2007-08-12 08:17:33.0

I have not figured that out yet. I tried to add one, but it would not let me!

    2007-08-12 08:18:32.0

SO I guess now we need a tangler as a beta 'beta' feedback loop on sixty?

    2007-08-12 08:20:13.0

    Yep! Perhaps so!

    2007-08-12 08:20:24.0

Try just typing in an address hilighting it and choosing create link. I think I just made one! I think. I made one to aol.com!

    2007-08-12 08:21:10.0

Let me see if I can repeat my results

    2007-08-12 08:21:17.0

Apparently...you type out the address in the note, and then hilight it, and then type the address in the insert link field and click insert link

    2007-08-12 08:22:53.0

I dont see where to hightlight text in a note - and i dont have any insert link - not that i can see - please help

    2007-08-12 08:36:06.0

I tried loading up a document (type wav). Seems to load to amazon s3 storage. but when clicking on document it doesnt work. I guess documents are for .doc, .pdf, .rtf etc ??

    2007-08-12 08:37:10.0

Well when you create a new note, you write the address you want, like just type http://www.tangler.com and then hilight what you just typed. It should let you hilight text, and then on the right, you should see link to webpage, where you can type what web address you want to link to, and it should have a button that says Insert Link . Let me know if you see that or not.

    2007-08-12 08:40:13.0

I got that, thanks - there is a problem with the 'save now' - it worked fisrt couple of times, now the 'save now' come up when i change something and it counts down to auto save 20, 19, 2, 1 , 0, -1, -2 now up to -163

I cant get it to save by 'save now' what has been enetered

    2007-08-12 08:46:57.0

Hmm...might be a glitch some where in their programming. I never hit the save now. I guess it just saves it automatically for me.

    2007-08-12 08:48:08.0

    what browser are you using?

    2007-08-12 08:50:41.0

    Firefox!

    2007-08-12 08:56:02.0

I was using IE7 - i will now try again with Firefox

    2007-08-12 09:03:01.0

I just prefer Firefox because there are add-ons, and themes, and the like. But to each her/his own. Some people prefer IE, some Firefox, some Opera.

    2007-08-12 09:07:01.0

The save works in Firefox - there is a problem with IE7 however ..

    2007-08-12 09:08:03.0

Perhaps there is a problem with their coding some where that is creating a glitch.

    2007-08-12 09:09:00.0

Now I am in Firefox, when I load up your page there is nothing there ! I have just posted another note to QUantum Physics. Can you log out and log in again, and tell me if all other previous notes have gone away, or is this something changing between browsers that all history has disappeared +

    2007-08-12 09:09:08.0

    Okay hold on

    2007-08-12 09:09:37.0

I can still see the notes. There are three of them, the one you created, and two I created.

    2007-08-12 09:11:10.0

i can only see one now i changed from IE7 to Firefox - can you see the new note i posted? Can you post another note

    2007-08-12 09:12:14.0

    That is definitely weird!

    2007-08-12 09:13:20.0

Now i am trying to upload a photo again, the same that i uploaded from IE7, and its says 'i'm sorry' - I guess that is because a file of that name has previously been uploaded?

    2007-08-12 09:14:51.0

Yes, that seems to be another glitch, loading up a new pic with new filename works

    2007-08-12 09:15:54.0

Yeah...it's still in BETA, so bear that in mind.

    2007-08-12 09:16:55.0

And the Beta bugs are coming out - we need stixy in on this board (or another)

    2007-08-12 09:18:58.0

It is my hope that when the bugs are brought to their attention, it will not take them very long to remedy them.

    2007-08-12 09:43:41.0

Stixy has a great future, I can already see many ways to use it. I think stixy will be surprised how people may use it, perhaps not as their use cases on the home page

It deserves to have great beta testers to bring it forward

    2007-08-12 09:50:30.0

Well..I want to see what GlueNote has to offer first before I decide if Stixy is great! But I do like the feel of Stixy!

    2007-08-12 09:51:25.0

Well the sixty guys are from Sweden, so I have to support them as I live there:)

    2007-08-12 09:54:35.0

    Awesome!

    2007-08-12 10:00:08.0

Okay, just got emailed by one of the dev's. I can invite people now to give it a boost (they've started requesting users to invite).

Please post your email now (or again if you have already) and I'll start inviting everyone to join in. Does anyone want an invite?

    2007-08-12 11:57:31.0

    haha, atuarre stole my thunder.

    (Thanks for helpin' everyone out!)

    2007-08-13 06:19:39.0

    Hi everyone!

My name is Jonas Höglund. I'm one of two founders of Stixy (Anders Ottoson is my co-founder). I'm doing most of the development, both backend and client side, so I'll try to pay close attention to this thread in the future.

First, I would like to thank everyone for trying Stixy out! We are really amazed about the speed Stixy has spread, since we invited the first beta testers last week. We started with a small number of testers (only 30), since we just had migrated to a new server and wanted to see that the system and everything else was working properly. Due to the nature of Stixy's invitaions, and services like Tangler and inviteshare.com we now have 1000+ invited users!!! And as far as we can tell, everything is holding up pretty well so far.

If you are one of those who signed up for our public beta at Stixy.com, and haven't received an invitation yet, it's because we still have only sent out 30 of them. We wanted to wait to send out more until we knew the system held up (as I said) and we also wanted to wait until we had implemented our new authentication system. Which is in place now!

If you already have an account at Stixy, please be aware of that you need to reset your password before signing in, due to the new authentication system.

Talking about the new authentication system... We would love getting as much help as possible of finding possible bugs related to it. If you want to help out, try as many things as possible related to your login/password (like signing in with the wrong/right login/password), setting the "remember me" checkbox when signing in, changing the login/password under the Personal Settings section. Etc etc.

I will now try to answer some of the issues mentioned above.

    1. Clickspice had problems uploading a wav file to Stixy. That should work just fine. We currently have a size limitation, though we don't communicate so anywhere. The size limit is set to10 megabytes. Could it be that the size was too big? Or that the file was corrupted? Or that the mime type was corrupted? Can you upload another wav file?
    2. In respect to how to create a link inside a note. We know this one is anything but intuitive at the moment. We hope to have a better solution for it soon, though I should be honest and say that it's not at the top of our list of prioritized fixes.
    3. When it comes to the bug that clickspice had where auto save doesn't work  ("auto save 20, 19, 2, 1 , 0, -1, -2 now up to -163"). This is a known bug, but I have only had it happened in Firefox myself. I have had an hard time to track it down, so if I can get help finding a case where one can reproduce the bug, I would be very greatful. I have been able to reproduce it in one case (but I know it happens in other cases too). The case where I was able to reproduce the bug is if I start to upload a document or a photo and cancels the upload (by deleting the widget), the auto save (or the save all together) doesn't work anymore. Can someone else reconfirm this? We are using flash for all file uploads (if the user has flash installed), and it seems to be related to that somehow.
    4. For the same file that couldn't be uploaded from both IE7 and Firefox. That should not be a problem. One should be able to upload files with the same filenames, without any restrictions. Can you please reconfirm that it's still happening, and if so, give me some additional info.

We have also created my own Stixy group here at Tangler, to be linked to from stixy.com. It's located at http://www.tangler.com/group/12394/discuss. Now I just need to figure out how to get it on to http://web20.tangler.com. I have three topics in the Stixy group (Bugs, Features, Misc). Since I'm new to Tangler and not sure what the best practice for this is, I highly appriciate any help or pointers on how to set up an efficant group (or how to get us on to the web 2.0 page).

    Many thanks!
    /jonas

    2007-08-14 06:31:58.0

Haha, welcome to Tangler (you won't be leaving soon, just enjoy talking up a storm).

I was one of those 30 invited, feel really special now. Will take part in the group, thanks!

    2007-08-14 07:33:58.0

Hiya jhoglund! Glad to have you on board:)

I'm the one who updates the web2.0 page, and I'll be adding your group on, don't worry. Takes me a day or two to do it sometimes.

Welcome to Tangler, and lemme know if there's anything I can do

    2007-08-14 17:24:45.0

Meanwhile, here's a working link to the Stixy group
