Hey Mick and Marty - just wanted to give you first impressions of using Tangler for interacting with testers

    2007-04-01 22:15:37.0

    1. It has been fun and insightful and can't wait to do it more

    2. I am a little worried about the level of fun and excitement when hundreds of people join in - might become unmanageable - but hopefully the early starters will help the late arrivals a little

    Sri

what kind of help do you have in mind Chris?  and how do you mean by unmanageable? (number of messages?)

    2007-04-01 22:17:36.0

    Re: Chris' post..

I was one of the others on the side of the "excitement" ... interesting to be doing two conversations in real time... between myself and dekrazz, I was suprised at how well you kept up... but probably hard for others to follow and catch up I would think... It should be VERY INTERESTING if there are more than a handful with cross conversations going on at one time... Hundreds WILL be unmanageable if all are involved... but I think you'll find the ratio of "lurkers" to active responders rises quite quickly in that case.

    2007-04-01 22:46:45.0

@Sri - I just mean too many messages and cross-talk at the same time. Plus it will burn a lot of time during the day for me (or someone else) to stay involved in real-time. Its a double edged sword because I actually love the real-time feedback and the ability to provide answers quickly - just saying that people have limited bandwidth

    2007-04-01 22:51:50.0

Perhaps whats called for is to be mainly asynchronous.... but periodically post a time when you'll be avaialble for live chat....

    2007-04-01 22:52:58.0

@Bricoleur - I think everything u say is probably true. Will be a fun experiment if nothing else.

    2007-04-01 22:53:07.0

Yes, the balance of real-time and persistent will be interesting. I think multiple linked groups will be the answer.

    2007-04-01 22:58:28.0

    How does that work Mick?

    2007-04-01 23:02:32.0

Basically you have one main group that deals with 80% of your activity. Like the Tangler Feedback group. Engage as much as you can and let the users keep talking to each other. Champions will emerge and they'll start helping each other out. You then just keep watching.

If a particular topic is getting too big, then set up a group for it. e.g. Touchstone Feedback - Mobile. Link to it from your main group.

It's all a part of the Tangle.

But thanks for the initial support and feedback on the feedback.

    2007-04-01 23:06:24.0

Okies - we will see how it goes - in any case its all a learning experience - will grow together!

Another aspect you will see is emergent experts. As you teach people about touchstone you'll find they will naturally pass on their expertise to others. It's all part of building a community. It's all part of....

    2007-04-02 05:03:27.0

    "The Tangle"

    2007-04-02 05:03:33.0

Responsiveness is also an elective thing. You'll find the more responsive you are, the more your community will be in turn. You can back off a little and the peristence will kick in more.

Tangler walks a line between async and sync communication. It's interesting watching it sway sometimes between the two. A little like watching two sumo wrestlers fight inside a jelly filled mini miner.

    2007-04-02 05:06:01.0

I so wish I didn't have that image in my head right now

    >:-O

    2007-04-02 06:26:42.0

    "mini miner"

    Morris minor?

    2007-04-02 12:38:03.0

LOL @ Jely filled Mini MInorXP

    2007-04-02 14:03:20.0

They need to release it for Linux

    2007-04-04 22:51:54.0

'They' would love to:) We just need some mono developers - send them our way

    2007-04-04 23:32:39.0

    If your referring to:

"Mono is the name of an open source project led by
Novell (formerly by Ximian) to create an ECMA Standard compliant
(Ecma-334 and Ecma-335), .NET compatible set of tools, including a C#
compiler, a Common Language Runtime and more. Mono can be run on
GNU/Linux, UNIX, Mac OS X, and Windows based computers."

    Then I don't know anybody.

    2007-04-05 12:18:25.0

lol, so you know someone who produces really boring fonts?

    2007-04-05 14:08:50.0

    If you mean

"A complete set of characters in a particular size and style of type. This includes the letter set, the number set, and all of the special character and diacritical marks you get by pressing the shift, option, or command/control keys."

     Then no:)

    2007-04-05 16:55:08.0

"lol, so you know someone who produces really boring fonts?"

    Sorry, but I don't.

    2007-04-06 09:47:42.0

    Just a follow up on Chris's note above;

    2.
I am a little worried about the level of fun and excitement when
hundreds of people join in - might become unmanageable - but hopefully
the early starters will help the late arrivals a little

Yes, absolutely, that's the beauty of an interactive forum.

    1. Users will help users.

    2. Old info also helps users.
