OK, I agree that it's not related to bollywood but I'll discuss about it anyway. 
Who watches Sa Re Ga Ma Pa?
I used to, on Zee TV, but don't have it here.... It's a pretty good show!
And it is completely related!
Being an Indian-American doesn't mean that you completely adopt the American culture. Even I've lived in San Jose. About 75% of my family members live in the U.S.A. but that doesn't mean that we forgot our culture. I'm proud to say that I'm an Indian and I respect the Indian culture. No matter how advance I become, I'll have the same respect for my culture.
I lived there in the U.S. and liked their culture as well. I respect every culture but mixing two cultures together is never a good idea. No matter how many votes she earns in the Sa Re Ga Ma Pa comp., I'm damn sure that people are voting for her NOT because of her voice. They're voting for her 'cause of her extra-fugly-style.
No matter if it's an Indian, a Pakistani or an American, they should respect the Indian culture when they're performing in an Indian show. If you start acting Indian in the U.S.A., they won't like it. The same thing applies everywhere.
See, I don't think it's as clear cut.... the way I experience the cultures I am a part of would be different from you. I'm pretty sure that many would say I don't 'uphold' the Indian culture very well, but it doesn't make me any more or less indian.
Having said that, I have to say that I might be completely out of point here, given that I haven't seen any of what you refer to above
I respect your thoughts. I just find it hard to digest that girl because she tries to be Shakira. If you watch a few video clips of Mauli Dave @YouTube, you'll realize that not only her voice sounds like it's coming from a goat's mouth, she can ONLY sing item songs. You'll notice that most of the time, her voice starts shaking @ high tone.
One day, Himesh Reshammiya even shouted at her 'cause of her crap voice. Anyway, I'm just sad 'cause Indian singers like Sumedha and Poonam are receiving far less votes than Mauli.

Her performance is the crappiest one I've ever seen in Sa Re Ga Ma Pa. Watch a few videos and you'll realize why does she receive gazillions of votes.
showing tongue, acting sexy may make many people vote for her but it makes me more mad @ her. her voice is crap. She shouldn't be in the show at the moment. Sumedha and Poonam sing pretty well.
Still Mauli is receiving tons of votes.
According to me, Raja is gonna be the winner of the crown.

but Mauli must not come @#4 in the overall ranking 'cause she sucks and that's the truth.

My bro (lives in NY now) used to shout at me when I used to listen classical Hindi songs (Mukesh, Rafi). I started taking interest in English songs 'cause of him but started listening English songs all the time when someone sent me two Engima tracks in an email. The person has disappeared in oblivion but the two songs always pull the person back in my memory. lol

I watch Sa Re Ga Ma Pa intermittently - really like Raja and Poonam and cannot decide between the two as yet.
totally cannot stand Mauli's voice but am not surprised that she's still there - thought i think soon she will be out. The fact that she's only singing item songs is the reason why she's still being voted for. Have to say that she's quite the entertainer (the American influence coming in) and can really connect with the crowd whcih is why I think she's receiving the votes.
remember there was this other dude - who sings better than Mauli but he entertains more than sings - such that Asha Bhosle had asked him to focus more on his timing and rhythm. he didnt' last long
what i've liked about SRGMP is that the Indian audience is more educated about music and singing than the Idol shows (except Indian Idol) - so far somewhat good singers have won (having said that - i have to say that some awesome singers have unfortunately been voted out - so I'm semi-contradicting myslf). But if Mauli wins then they have proved me wrong totally!!!

Have to LPY credit though - he's been able to turn Indian Railway into a profitable business instead of the prediction of bankrupcy at the point that he had taken over. Profits made without him raising the train fares couple with generating rural employment! Thanks to him - no more tea in plastic cups but the much loved eathern cups.

Goats on the SRGMP stage! WTH? I don't care whatever Laloo did for Indian Railway. I know only thing that I'm a Laloo-hater since I was 7yrs old. Mom still tells me how I used to talk about bombing Laloo's house in my childhood! I am a Bihari (spent 10yrs in Bihar since my birth!) and I've always hated him to death.

Whoa! It's really been pretty long since I last posted in this thread! Did any of you watch the final? ZEE screwed everything. The votes were rigged and the most crazy thing is that the online vote counts weren't included in the final results.
Guess what? I stopped watching each and every ZEE channel. 
Wait a minute.... why did they do that? And did they admit to it?
And who won??
I watched the end enough to just see who won.
Aneek won - based on telephone and sms votes from India and Internationally.
I didn't hear about the online votes at all!!!
I was surprised that Aneek won - really thought it was between Amanat and Raja but since I wasn't watching the last few episodes - figured I had missed something that led up to the final result.

NOw they have started SRGMP lil champs Intgernational - I really dun understand the concept - the kids are really young and i'm not sure if they are doing this so they can become better singers or what? it's like teenagers competing against 6 year olds. YEESSH!!
But ashamedly I am watching it only because Sonu Nigam and Suresh Wadkar are the judges and i really like they way they talk to the kids.

actually Suresh Wadkar cause i kinda lost interest in Sonu Nigam - but I'm really liking Sonu Nigam as a judge.
He's a little too talkative but fairly entertaining!!!
but even in this show - choosing the contestants is s bit dubious....then again I'm not really sure what the aim of the show is?!!
