This one boasted a star-studded cast, and I hadn't heard anything about it until I came across it at the DVD-rental place, so I thought, why not?
10 minutes into the movie, I knew the story and how it would end. No, unlike Bipasha's character in the movie, I ain't psychic... But I have watched the original English version.
It's called the Gift:
I continued watching Rakht, wondering how they change it etc.... Amazingly, this time, Bollywood didn't just rip off an idea, they ripped off a whole movie!!
Apart from the injection of songs, which we know no Bollywood blockbuster can do without, everything else was exactly the same.
I'm disappointed. I remember watching some really interesting and scary bollywood shows when I was young. All they can produce these days are rip offs.
Interestingly, the DVD I rented was one of those 2 in one DVDs, and the other movie was a rip off (although not completely - they changed the latter part of the story to include some romance and a really convoluted explanation for the existence of the entity) of a Japanese movie, Dark Water (which Hollywood also made I think. Also, that Wiki article says that Bollywood plans to remake it. News Alert - it's been done! *groan*)
It seems that a lot of the movies coming out of India are just ripped off these days. Which is a real disappointment. I don't want to watch something I've already seen done badly.
C'mon Bollywood! Get your act together!
