The promise of virtualization

Virtualization promises rapid deployment of multiple systems.

It lets you create 'snapshots' of servers, then deploy these snapshots multiple times as virtual systems.

The reality

Most people don't want identical systems. If you deploy two virtualised databases to your network, each one will have the same hostname, schema and license keys.

Virtualization has only done part of the job - you still have a lot of configuration to do after deploying each system.
