The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini

One of my favorite books that opened my eyes to the decades of war and struggle that the people of Afghanistan have had to live with.  Hosseini does an amazing job of telling the history of the past 30 years through the eyes of a young boy growing up to adulthood in the middle of this chaos.  I read it while my brother was serving in Afghanistan in 2005.  I immediately sent it to him so that he could understand the country and issues of where he is serving.  He loved it as well and everyone in his unit read it as well.  It changed most of their views about the country and the people they were working to protect.  I this is a great book but not for the faint at heart.
