So those that have read it, how do you feel about it all being over???
I think she is going to keep writing harry potter stuff, just give her a couple of years and there will be a new book
I haven't read it, and am glad it's all over, and I really hope it is the last one....
Don't get me wrong, I slightly enjoyed the first 2 books, and I loved the world she created, but her writing style got really stale and the hype just killed it for me.
I'll agree that over the years the hype kind of frustrated me, but you can't be mad about something that made reading cool again in this day of internet and video games
I dunno..... I never fell out of love with reading, and I had no idea it was dying out in the rest of the world
*shrug*
Yeah it really did in the U.S. for young kids and teenagers there for awhile, you always saw kids with gameboys and never books
So props to Harry Potter for bring back reading to the little ones![]()
Has it trickled over into a consistent reading habit, or is it all abt Potter?
I think it has, it was a gateway to the wealth of wonderful books out there to read. My little cousins now are hug readers because of that
In that case, that's great!
The more readers, the better my world![]()
So whos actually finished it?
i have
i can't believe it's all over now. i think she needs to write about the founding four of hogwarts next.
Ive already spoken to you about the book.. someone else plz
... hahah 19 years part.. need more?
it's you!!!!
that's insane!
I feel so out of the loop cause I don't read Harry Potter
and not about too lol
Imperio! Read the books clovar!
when I retire from uni it shall be on my to-do list
and watch the movies
retire from uni!! ahahahahahaha with a PHD in Harry potter?
lol
I don't think Im really PHD material except in maybe wagging uni
oooh do you think that's possible? a phd in harry potter?
coz i wouldn't get one i would just imagine that getting a phd in harry potter would be pretty easy
It's sad that it's all over, but there are still tons of fanfiction HP stories and every day there are hundreds of new ones, some of them longer and better than the actual Harry Potter books. So it doesn't mean the end of the world for HP fans![]()
I really liked the 7th book. It was better than any of the six others in my opinion. You never knew what would happen next and you know through the media that some characters will die but you don't know which of them will have to die. It was all a bit confusing, though. So many plot twists. Everything we knew from the first 6 books basically was wrong ^^
I loved the 7th book I agree it was better than all the rest, very fast paced. I agree with orangensaften that she should write about the founding 4 of Hogwarts, that would be an amazing book!
What? Harry is actually Voldemort's son?![]()
![]()
haha love the animation!!
![]()
Harry IS Voldemort's son to a certain degree ^^ Harry is what Voldemort made him, we got to know that in the sixth book I think it was.
well yeah.... but i was talking abt a more straightforward biological way
Funny how the plot hasn't been leaked online. Or maybe I haven't looked hard enough
its been leaked
yeah i'm sure it has been. i refused to look it up until i've finished. then once i was done i looked it up. everywhere you look it's harry and ginny. i never would have put them together. i always had a penchant for harry and hermione but that was evidently not to be!
Is that for real?? I think we need to put 'spoilers' in the topic title if it is
The book was on the internet one week before the official release date and there were tons of sites with spoilers. I refused to go visit news websites for the whole week![]()
Harry and Ginny were together in book 6, so that's not a big spoiler, is it?
yeah it's not. they were together at the end for a short time. what's to say i was't talking about that. and maybe we should put spoiler in the title coz i want to talk about the juicy tuff and we can't do that with all the potter virgins in here. or maybe those of us who have read it should open another one
Okay.... Please hold your horses till I get that done?
dont come into this topic until u finish
..
okay sorry for taking sooo long to put spoiler on the title but it is there now so you can all talk it up as much as you want!
aaaaaaaaand I'm back!
hehehehe
(Thanks Kaz!)
no complaining out of you if you read something that you didn't want too missy!
SWWWEET now ruin it for everyone! NOT...
Here is a link to my blog review - but it does discuss the plot in some detail - so do not read if you have not finished the book... I give a large warning on the top of the blog post too....!
I really enjoyed the final book - but I do feel Rowling has perhaps left it open for further Potter books down the track. What do you think?
she hasnt ruled that out.. but clearly stated that it is very unlikely. Although Rumors of a Rowling authored Potter encyclopedia.
Yes, I heard about the encyclopedia - that would be quite a task to undertake I would imagine.
I was surprised that Jo Rowling had not ruled out further Harry Potter books. I think one can take it a little too far.... As much as I would be interested in reading further tales of Potter, it does, unfortunately have to end somewhere....
yes it does.. but you see i rather like a potter end thats remiscent of the end of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy (with characters that were ageless had an end that was satisfying!!). I felt satisfied with that end. Where as Harry Potter has a number of questions that i have. Im sure im not the only one with these feelings. To me the Harry Potter series finishes with a cheesy "Happily-Ever-After" finish, that for me will not do.
Exactly....it did feel like that. It left no sense of closure. I felt as though I needed at least a few answers as to what had been happening in the 19 years that were passed over. What happens to the death eaters, what happens to Voldemort's supporters?
I know fiction often leaves one guessing, but I felt as you do, that this ending was perhaps a little plastic....
lol.. plastic! i like that...who knows.. maybe someone will pick up from where Rowling left off. NEVER KNOW!..
Now that would be odd - sort of like the movies I suppose, different directors for each Potter movie (well, I think number one and two had the same director). Instead, a different author for each new Potter book! We'll probably see Potter sequels online; Potter ebooks, to download for free, all by different authors!
Still, I congratulate Jo Rowling - the ending may not have been as satisfying as we would have liked, but as I said on my blog review, we have known Harry for so long and we expect so much that, possibly, no matter what the ending was, we would never have been perfectly satisfied with the way in which Rowling chose to end her Potter series....
Ahhhh... thanks Louise!!!
Now I don't have to read the book![]()
I did warn you about the content dekrazee!!![]()
Ash says she is waiting for the movies to find out what happens. But last I heard, Half Blood Prince is expected to be released November 2008 and The Deathly Hallows, not until sometime in 2010! Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) will be 21 by then!
No no, I meant it in a good way!!
I want to know what happens, but I don't particularly feel like reading it. (Tho I might if I chance upon it in future)
hahahaha Think she'll manage to avoid all the details till then?
I highly doubt it! She managed to tell my brother what happened in book number six (which she had ended up asking me to tell her!)
HAHAHAHAH
She's a delight!
Frank Herbert's son continued the Dune books, Tolkien's son (or grandchild? I forgot ^^) continued Lord of the rings, so why shouldn't a son or a daughter of Rowling continue HP in 50 to 100 years? We'll all be dead by then, but it will continue sometime XD I'd like a Harry Potter TV series, the movies suck at telling the story, they are just not long enough.
Yeah, I agree.... those movies are just hype and money machines.... don't do real justice to the books
Yeah they have to cut out so much! The only reason I started reading Harry Potter was after the 3rd movie I was soo lost that I knew that I was missing out on so much from the book. This last movie was crap as well, don't know why I paid my hard earned money to see it when the book did me just fine.
The movie cast though is great. John Gleese as nearly headless Nick, you can't do better than that
Professor McGonagal also played by a very well chosen actress whose name I shamefully forgot ^^ And Emma Watson as Hermione, she's one of the reasons why I like Harry Potter so much. Can't wait to see her in other movies. I don't like Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grints facial expressions are sometimes overkill in my opinion (sometimes he looks like someone kicked him where it hurts-a-lot) but if you've seen Driving Lessons you know that Rupert Grint really is a good actor. Oh and I love Alan Rickman as Snape.
Btw, have I told you guys I hate Harry Potter (the character)?
I can't stand him, and I think he's one of the most irritating characters every written - mainly/partly due to Rowling's writing style
I didn't like Harry either, he was such an idiot sometimes. But in later books he becomes smarter![]()
I've read up to 6, and he's still a whinger!
But in book 6 he started to get better ^^ Book six is where Hermione becomes really dumb and causes so much trouble for Harry. Harry is the only one of the trio in book six who thinks logical and does what has to be done.
I never saw it that way
I agree Hermione in the 6th book drives me nuts!

haha that is great!
Okay, I'm sure everyone has heard by now -
J.K. Rowling Shocked By Response to Gay Dumbledore...
Author J.K. Rowling is stunned by the reaction she received
after outing popular Harry Potter character Albus Dumbdledore
as gay. The writer revealed the truth about the Hogwarts school
headmaster's sexuality at New York's Carnegie Hall on Friday
as part of her American book tour. The outing of Dumbledore
provoked more that 3,000 comments on Harry Potter fan site, The
Leaky Cauldron and Rowling is shocked by the anger over her
character's sexual orientation. Rowling says, "It has certainly
never been news to me that a brave and brilliant man could love
other men. "He is my character. He is what he is and I have the
right to say what I say about him."
I must say, I'm not surprised at the reaction, but what I do wonder about is why Rowling thought she needed to disclose it this way. She didn't write it into the story, and the series is supposedly over, so why say it now?
This is the first time I have heard of this and no I am not surprised by the reaction, but as you said Dek she never mentioned it in the books so why now?
Yeah... How does it add to the story?
I just don't get it
Maybe explains him being a bit of an idiot about that dark wizard he knew.. who's name I forget.. Grindelwald?
Not seeing him for being evil because he was in love.. would that make sense? I can't really remember what happened in the last few books.
I think she said it because she was specifically asked if Dumbledore had ever loved anyone. Otherwise I doubt she would have said anything - I don't think she specifically went out to "out" him. But since she was asked and since it was something she'd always had in her heart/mind she answered the question.
I'm in two minds about it. While on the one hand I acknowledge that the world is much richer than the books can ever make out (just like Middle Earth is richer than the LOTR books make out (despite being incredibly rich anyway) - rich enough to have books and books about the world) I don't like how this was mentioned. I'd rather people be able to imagine their own story behind Dumbledore until she decides to write some sourcebook or story or whatever to fill in that backstory. I'm not angry that she'd tell these things, but if she has all these titbits of information why can't she just write them into a book. That said, of course, if she does that everyone will complain that she's milking us for money. *sigh* I guess she can't win either way.
Exactly Draigwen.... I'm sure she has all her characters in her head, with all their histories etc. If they matter that much to her, she should have put them down on paper. Or in the books at some stage.
It just doesn't make sense to me to be adding a detail to a character that essentially doesn't matter to the tale told so far.
Why not tell us all about Dooby while she's at it then?
(btw, imo, she's been milking the series for money from the 3rd book onwards, where the quality of story telling degraded drastically.)
Sending ...
