I’ve been lucky enough to have the opportunity to drive some of the world’s great driving roads…Now I look for the opportunity whenever I can…so here is my list of those I’ve done. I consider these to be “destination” drives… that is, drives so good that you are willing to travel just to get to the drive.

"In March 2004 we asked you [the BBC website readership] to vote for the top 50 things everyone should try a bite of in their lifetime . This is how you voted."
I'm currently at the 94% mark -- only a few things to go:
#22 - Kangaroo
#32 - Guinea Pig
#42 - Durian Mon-Thong
I don't know why I haven't had 42 -- could this be the answer to the age old question of the meaning of life, the universe and everything? All I have to do is drop into one of our Asian markets and I'm sure I can find it....I don't think any restaurants here have it.... just a wee bit of an odour I'm told.
Guinea Pig will have to wait till my (eventual) trip to the Andes and the ruins of Machu Picchu. And as for Kangaroo? hmm I don't know I was at a restaurant with an Aussie business colleague and noted it on the menu, his reaction was, well, somewhat explosive (How could anyone eat our National Symbol etc.).. so I passed on it and never tired alone either (so I would not have to lie if he ever asked me about it!). I never had the nerve to tell him I've had beaver tail .... oh the horrors of it Canada's national symbol!
The list is actually pretty bland and has too many "non specifics" (Chinese ???? - for crying out loud you can't lump all the regional Chinese styles together let alone all the varieties within each of these groups -- but I guess the list would have to be the "500 foods you should eat before you die" if this rationale was followed)...
So which foods, not on the list , should I try ????
follow up June 30, 2007 just yesterday I posted the above and today i see a story on wikinews about Odorless Durian ... but that's not for me I think... see my take on it here
A great steakhouse can be a destination in its own right .... a supremely great steakhouse can make even the worst trip seem worthwhile in balance...
Not much to do but throw the carcass on the grill a non-steak lover might say... but then there must be more because only a few raise to greatness.... this is a list of some of my favourites and a few that will not see me again ... although your mileage may vary on the later ...
establishments that I can't see anyone appreciating .... yes there are places that bad that still stay in business somehow...don't even make the cut to get on this list.... (Note that I haven't included the chain steak houses on this list.... some ( like Mortonsof Chicago) are almost universally good no matter which city; others (like Ruth's Chris Steakhouse have gone from the sublime to the rediculous in my excursions, so I tend to steer clear if I can).
This is a shorter version of the information I listed in the topic Where's Bric: 43 Places ... this list only shows the 24 countries I've visited, not the various places I've seen while there. Here's the list on the List of Bests
here's the complete set of my entries in the "Lists of Bests"
