I need help. There I've said it.

I've finished the book I bought yesterday, but still I want my own indie bookstore. Even when the best rant in the book starts: "so you're thinking of opening a bookstore. Are you crazy?"

But, then it's not about rationality is it?

    No, no it isn't...:)

It's about opening a bookshop in a quiet town, so you have time to sit and actually read the darn books!

I went and checked one of my old favourites Sunday - beach side drive, they were one of four linked stores.... a "warm and fuzzy" gift shop, coffee & pastry shop, bookstore, new age "crystal & pyramid extravaganza"

THey had cutouts in the wall so you could walk inside from store to store, but tough times since I was last there (2 years ago) had forced two of the shops out of business ... the bookstore absorbed the "Crystal Emporium" part of the next door shop and sealed up the wall, and the gift shop just disappeared.

The new owners of the bookstore are a couple that look like they are 90 years old... I think 40 of that has come in the last 18 months... <sigh>  I still want it though

Amazon now allows you to have your own "shop" - sorta- on their website. Google announced today they will be selling eBooks of titles that have gone out of print.  And the big chains continue in their process of destroying the publishing industry and independent book seller community... so now might not be the time... But I still want the quiet town, indie bookstore...I will have it one day... it just might be my retirement gift to myself rather than a "for profit" venture... in the meantime I've got to get back to meaningul, gainful employment Wink

You have a good personal library don't you? So now all you need is a small town and a shop frontXP

The trouble is I don't know if I can part with any of my personal collection without actually breaking into tears... might be a bit of an impediment to repeat sales don't you think?

    2008-10-29 20:04:56.0

Oh, so selling would actually be a desired action?

You see that's why I like you.... always thinking one step in front of me....

My idea of having my own bookshop is very much in line with the Black Books version

    *grin*

Had to go look that up on Wikipedia... didn't have a clue what you were talking about as we (as far as I know have never had the series shown here)

That could be one of the ones I checked out last weekend.... Yup what I want... but I don't know about wanting the goings on of the series though ("based around the lives and often surreal antics of its foul-mouthed, eccentric, misanthropic, alcoholic Irish owner Bernard Black" as I'm not alcohlic Irish and I'll leave others to judge the misantropic; but I would proudly wear the moniker - if not label- eccentric)
