BuiltWith is a web site profiler tool. Upon looking up a page, BuiltWith returns all the technologies it can find on the page. BuiltWith’s goal is to help developers, researchers and designers find out what technologies pages are using which may help them to decide what technologies to implement themselves.
BuiltWith technology tracking includes widgets (snap preview), analytics (Google, Nielsen), frameworks (.NET, Java), publishing (WordPress, Blogger), advertising (DoubleClick, AdSense), CDNs (Amazon S3, Limelight), standards (XHTML,RSS), hosting software (Apache, IIS, CentOS, Debian) .
I am really interested to get some feedback on the page, what you like don't like, what you'd like to see and so on and so forth.
This sounds very interesting
I am *trying* to learn how to be a developer, so I can definitely see this as a need.
I can see how this can be handy for me too, a complete non-developer. I went in and did two searches, knew some of the displayed components and looked up those I didn't. I love the idea!
I really like the idea. Well done.
I'll be back...
Great idea!
I read about this over at R/WW. A really handy site, I'll say. I searched TC, R/WW, Digg and my own domain and liked the way it displays all the 'backend' stuffs.
I hate Google ads taking up bunches of front page real estate: i.e., "Featured Content". This section is as big as your own header. UGH! This en cringes on interactive space. It pushes the 'play with me' fields further down the page. I don't like to scroll to get to the meat and potatoes.
I tried "tangler.com" to take a test-drive. I'm bound to believe that many (most) sites will have the same 'backend' profile - given the statistics that follow:
I'm not a developer and if I were, I'd be inclined to say - you're site is already telling me what I already know.
I don't see the long-term, repeat, visitation that is needed to sustain a Google Ad driven website like this one.
Thanks for your feedback BigNerd sorry you don't like the advertising, I started the site with my own $ which isn't very much so getting pay back is important to me. If I moved the featured content to the bottom of the page, after the meat and potatoes I doubt advertisers would be so keen to buy the spots. However I've taken your comments on board and will try to work out how to improve featured content and keep the site useful.
The tech information is in its infancy and there's plenty of cool things that can be done to work out more technical information about a site that may be of interest to you. the tangler.com homepage doesn't really have that much information as its pretty much just a static page, however if you tried this group for example - http://builtwith.com/?tangler.com/group/12325 then you'll get much richer feedback.
Thanks for your feedback.
Not sure what is going on there can't paste the link properly, you'll need to copy and paste it into the browser
In hindsight I do apologize for posting my comment under the wrong category. It clearly should have been under "Feedback".
One thing I look for in new groups - as it pertains to feedback - is timely responses from developers. I give you an A+ for addressing everyone's comments, including mine. I also look for how developers handle a 'tough crowd'. I'm sure it's not easy on your end, and tangling with everyone's likes/dislikes takes some finesse. Not an easy feat.
As for advert $$'s... it's a catch-22; You gotta pay your hosting bills, etc., but you also want to hook people with the transparent ease of navigation and simple messages of your program. You're up against the perception that Google Ads real estate equals easy money. Just be careful.
Best of luck!
techindemand.com supports RSS; a family of web feed formats used to publish frequently updated content such as blog entries, news headlines or podcasts.
Other popular sites using RSS include gennit.com, wordpress.com, readwriteweb.com, billycorgan.info, g2007.com and ebin.wordpress.com.
24.41% of the top 5000 profiled sites use RSS.

Only 24.41% of the top 5000 profiled sites use RSS???
That's kind of a weird statistic to see. I figured almost every single website today would to to incorporate RSS in one way or another.
-----------------------------------------
techindemand.com links to FeedBurner which is the leading provider of media distribution and audience engagement services for blogs and RSS feeds.
Other popular sites using FeedBurner include readwriteweb.com, ebin.wordpress.com, 43folders.com, feedmyapp.com, script.aculo.us and blog.builtwith.com.
4.88% of the top 5000 profiled sites use FeedBurner.
------------
I don't think it is really accurate to say 4.88% of the sites use FeedBurner, it just doesn't give a true idea of that statistic, because it relies on having RSS capabilities with the site.
I'd rather see how many of the top 5,000 sites that DO use RSS feeds, use FeedBurner. That would be a much more useful statistic to me in my opinion. I think it sounds more useful anyway.
Also Gary, would you mind telling me what are the most used stastics tracking tools? I assume you have overall totals for each of the 5,000 sites. I currently use Google Analytics and Clicky. I'm just curious as to what other alternatives there are and what is being used.
I remember seeing this app a few weeks ago and loved it! Glad to see that our own Gary built it : )
I think this is one of the most useful web developer sites in the past year (at least). It's really interesting to me to see the various aspects of a site; and learning about a site's backend infrastructure can help every developer decide on the best platform.
hi i just saw these messages in the tangler weekly update, i'm going over to bondi now but i'll post replies tomorrow. Thanks for the feedback!![]()
jm - thanks for the comments I can see what you mean it would be very handy to know what RSS users are using Analytics. I'm going to do a analytics page for the entire site soon, the problem at the moment is really infrastructure. The database caches the files and so easily gets to about 2gig with more than 35,000 urls are cached, I've compressed the data now which saves space but also means that doing sql queries won't work as before (its all on shared hosting after all).
As for the next favourite after Google Analytics its Omniture Site Catalyst which I'd never heard of before the site existed. Here's the top 10 -
Google Analytics
Omniture SiteCatalyst
StatCounter
Visual Sciences
CrazyEgg
Quantcast Tracking
MyBlogLog
Nielsen//NetRatings
