Bored too…. Fairfax CEO talking. He’s cute. The room is dark. He’s telling us abt free newspapers…. What abt the free wireless? I should be able to Tangle this directly!

Introduces Dave Girouard – VP Google… Everyone laughs when he calls Google evil:P

    2007-04-30 19:20:35.0

    Dave's speech:

    Innovation, Consumerisation and the Enterprise.

    Says something abt flags? *confused*

    Topics:

    • Info tech in crisis
    • Two trends – co-conspirators

His stump speech – It’s all abt innovation! *cue happy pictures*

    Lalalala

    Or is it??

    *cue scary music*

    >75% of IT budget is spent just maintaining

    Ooops

    2007-04-30 19:24:48.0

Current Delivery models are insanely complex --> not good... (I think)

Pic of long line of 1930s soldiers….  Oh, he’s saying we need an army to just keep everything in place

    2007-04-30 19:25:20.0

    Google’s strategy

    Trend 1:
Software as service – at some point, I’m gonna get somebody to manage something for me. Eg money in mattress to money in banks. And then brings up Gmail. Of course!

Makes a joke abt VP of electricity, and waits for the laughter that was never to be his

    *sizzle*

    Oops

    Trend 2:
Consumerisation of Info Tech (accompanied by pic of iPod!! Or wait…. Is that the Google phone??! Whoa…. He read my mind…. Says “Oh, that’s the Apple iPhone btw hahaha)

“Offices are in the stone age”. We should invite him to ours!:P

Enterprise apps aren’t delivering enough user value. (I think he wants everyone to use Gmail…)

    2007-04-30 19:25:46.0

Top startups in Business 2.0 by category 80% are in the consumer space.

    Enterprise – out

    Consumer-driven innovation – in

    2007-04-30 19:30:28.0

Starts ‘selling’ Google… something about slimming down the Google letters from 1997 till now --> dek switches off

Software as service + consumerisation = innovation? No! = Amortisation. (at this stage I’d look up the dictionary, but I don’t have net connetivityqq)

Interesting– he compares data to money. Just as your money is not save with you, your data will be safer when given to another to keep. Tho he admits that there’s a way to go, technologically and culturally, before that becomes the norm.

Intros Google Apps… Aha! Is this what this is all abt?! *light bulb goes off in dek’s head*

(I haven’t had my morning coffee, and the guy next to me isn’t helping by continuously nodding off)

Shows off a uni using Google apps…. Locally, Macquarie Uni is doing that today!

Geez… he keeps talking abt stuff Google have released, like calenders etc… Do the ppl sitting here really not already know this??

Says more and more Googlers are using Macs. Hope that Steve Jobs realises that this is how it has to be – allowing customers to use your products in any way they want.

    Final thoughts:

    1. Fast is better than slow
    2. Simple is better than complex
    3. Assume chaos and deal with it

He puts up his e-mail addy… and I have it!:P

(Guy next to the guy nodding off next to me wanted my notes on the talk…. I wasn’t about to save these to his scandisk!^_^')

    Question time:

Woman asks him question about Google growing faster then they can service the market. Pierre and I laugh. Poor Dave apologises. *sigh* customer service

Whoa! A critique of Gmail!! Maybe I should invite Dave into Tangler’s Tech News group.:P
