Whoa... what a co-incidence.... I had some fresh lychees tonite after like 3 years or something that ridiculous... One of my favs

I'm thinking I'd like this lychee martini

    2006-12-16 05:50:52.0

what about a durian martini! much better

    2006-12-16 19:56:38.0

    :O More coincidence....

Mudflower and I were talking abt durians last nite, and I realised that there wasn't any durian alcohol, and I decided I'd look in it! hahaha

    2006-12-16 19:58:48.0

    durian martinis sound gross....

    2006-12-16 23:43:30.0

OHH.....but they say u cannot mix durian and alcohol....so durian martinis are out of the question. you'll end up in the hospital.

    2006-12-16 23:44:22.0

    What is Durian? a brand?

    2006-12-16 23:44:45.0

ahhh... but my plan is to ferment the durian and come up with some form of wine or spirit!!

    2006-12-16 23:45:09.0

welcome to the world of a disgusting foul fruit

apologies to all who love it....i personally HATE it. i'll run at the slightest whiff of the fruit.

    2006-12-16 23:46:34.0

ferment the durian??? OMG.....i can just imagine the smell...

    2006-12-16 23:47:01.0

    HAHAHAHA oops!

    2006-12-16 23:47:21.0

Came across this in Durian research:

What fruit is shaped like a hedgehog and smells like compost?

    2006-12-16 23:48:33.0

smells like compost....Aye i agree. *puts a peg on nose*

    2006-12-16 23:57:11.0

    HAHAHAHAH It's not that bad...

    2006-12-16 23:58:22.0

no it's bad. try putting the durian in your fridge and even the fried rice u made the night before and lef in the fridge is going to smell like durians! the smell permeates EVERYTHING. my entire family eats durians....and on such occasions i prefer to leave the house and not go back home.

    2006-12-17 00:00:21.0

The scent is HEAVENLY!!! And cold durian from a nite in the fridge is Bliss!!! Time to visit Sims Avenue again!!

    2006-12-17 02:54:46.0

Swinger, I share your pain... as illustrated by aman above, I live with a bunch of durian devotees too...

When I was younger, my parents would manage to force a seed or two down my throat.... Hoorah for adulthood:P

The smell doesn't bother me as much, but yeah, it does get into everything... but it's a fun fruit.... What else do you get to wrestle open?XP

    2006-12-17 05:06:28.0

    gee i dunno....sthing that doesnt have a strong smell...like a JACKFRUIT maybe????

    2006-12-17 05:07:55.0

Jackfruit?? That's just a pain in the ass fruit.... esp when unripe... My mum used to make me cut the damned things for curry.... sheesh! So sticky!

    Definately NOT FUN

Plus, I don't really like the smell of that either

    2006-12-17 05:21:53.0

    better than durians anyday man...blech!!!!

    2006-12-17 05:30:12.0

hahahaha I've noticed that I don't really like fleshy tropical/SE Asian fruit.... you the same?

    2006-12-17 05:31:47.0

what's wrong with you guys?!!! Jackfruit is awesome!!! and it's not that fleshy! C'mon

    2006-12-17 05:32:13.0

ok aman...i'm with you on this one. I LOVE jackfruit....but durians are a no no. i'd much rather eat sthing fermented than a durian.

    2006-12-17 05:32:57.0

what's wrong with you guys?!!! Jackfruit is awesome!!! and it's not that fleshy! C'mon

    Sez the durian lover....

ok aman...i'm with you on this one. I LOVE jackfruit....but durians are a no no. i'd much rather eat sthing fermented than a durian.

Traitor!!!! Well, in which case, you can try the fermented durian alcohol when I patent it:P

    2006-12-17 05:35:19.0

    BLECHHHHH!!!!!!

    2006-12-17 05:37:26.0

    *head in toilet*

    2006-12-17 05:37:33.0

mmm....i wonder what a jackfruit martini would taste like....

    2006-12-17 05:37:55.0

Eh, what abt a rambutan cocktail of some sort?

    2006-12-17 05:39:07.0

ok something really mild is Durian cake - not the brown thing that we are all used to. But your run of the mill sponge cake - flavoured durian.

While I'm a fan of Durian the fruit - i've never enjoyed any of it's products - even the ice cream. But this cake (new invention - 2 years or so) is really yummy.

Wonder what a Jackfruit Martini would taste like?

    2006-12-17 05:39:19.0

rambutan martini would be similar to lychee ones i assume...refreshing and nice...plus rambutans can be found in cans...makes life easier.

    2006-12-17 05:40:03.0

    Q: What's worse than durian?

    A: Durian products!!!

    2006-12-17 05:40:24.0

    uuuummmmmmmmm........ raaaaambuuuuuutaaaaaaan....

    2006-12-17 05:40:45.0

yes i have heard that ardent durian lovers hate the durian products.

    2006-12-17 05:40:59.0

    YUM!!! rambutan!!!

    2006-12-17 05:41:01.0

ok....aman....u are invited to this bollywood party and we shall indulge in all kinds of cocktails!

    2006-12-17 05:41:37.0

only thing...u must come in a sari.

    2006-12-17 05:41:56.0

No problem!!! Definately beats wearing a sari from the 70's!!

    2006-12-17 05:42:36.0

we shall have tonnes of pictures taken....remember...we are stars that night! *blowing kisses in the air*

    2006-12-17 05:43:33.0

How long does it take to put a sari on? A woman at Book Club is Indian and was wearing a sari at the weekend and implied it would take a very long time to get it "just right". Her mother wears them very well and she feels she has to live up to the standard set by her family!

    2007-04-10 18:24:21.0

By the way - I shan't be seeking out fleshy, stinky SE Asian fruit anytime soon. Sounds GROSS.

    2007-04-10 18:24:50.0

It's like anything you have practice at and get used to....

my mum takes 5 mins... maybe less

    2007-04-10 18:31:39.0

    i take abt 15 to 20min. cos i'm fussy.

    2007-04-10 22:21:14.0

ppl who wear them regularly will naturally take 5 min. my mother takes 40min....not kidding. she needs the pleats to be exactly where she wants them to be....she needs the length of the throwover to be exactly 3/4 of her height.....and guess who has to help her with all this....*grumble*

    2007-04-10 22:22:59.0

    That sounds like Pearl's story!

    2007-04-10 22:48:20.0

Whoa..... Thank goodness mine can do it on her own.... I can't imagine helping mother with her sari!

    :O

    2007-04-10 23:48:45.0

it's an understanding in my house. mother brings out sari, swinger drops whatever she is doing and goes in to help.

    2007-04-11 01:21:55.0

    Since when?

Has it always been this way?

    2007-04-11 01:26:53.0

always...it used to be my dad....until she realised it was useless to keep calling him for half an hour when he pretends to watch something totally interesting on tv. she cannot get my brother to move. so the next best option. me.

    2007-04-11 01:31:07.0

    hahaha That's just so quirky!

    2007-04-11 01:32:07.0

is it? i should tell her the world thinks she's nuts to make me do this.;)

    2007-04-11 01:32:52.0

Hey hey, leave me outta this.....

    Maybe it's a good mother-daughter bonding thing

    *shrugging*

    2007-04-11 01:36:26.0

    err....i dun thnk sooo....

    2007-04-11 01:41:57.0

i usually leave the room frustrated

    2007-04-11 01:42:07.0

    how is that for bonding?

    2007-04-11 01:42:14.0

    hhahahahaha

Sounds like how all other such attempts usu end up!

    2007-04-11 01:47:11.0

Next time I think how beautiful they look I shall have to imagine the "behind the scenes" drama that must have unfolded ('scuse the pun).

    2007-04-11 02:35:26.0

    hahahahahah

    2007-04-11 07:02:16.0

Swinger - what did your mum do when you weren't in the country.

Sari is really not that difficult to put on - depending on the material. I hate the really soft materials like buttersilk cause i'm paranoid about it falling apart and overdose on the pins and all to hold it up!!!

I do like my throwover to be long though - quite particular about that.  Have also discovered that the Gujarati style sari (with the throw over in front) does not suit me at all.

    2007-04-11 07:12:05.0

Swinger - what did your mum do when you weren't in the country.

my poor dad....i can just imagine the trauma he went thru in my absence

    2007-04-11 10:50:56.0

it's serious business ...i mean i have to get down on my knees and make sure her pleats are 'ironed' out such that there are exactly 7 of them peeking out....just thinking of it makes me tired

    2007-04-11 10:52:26.0

    Hallelujah!!!

    Whoa.... that's nuts Swinger....

    2007-04-11 16:09:01.0

    Talk about parent/child bonding.:P
