Mudflower and I were talking abt durians last nite, and I realised that there wasn't any durian alcohol, and I decided I'd look in it! hahaha
durian martinis sound gross....
OHH.....but they say u cannot mix durian and alcohol....so durian martinis are out of the question. you'll end up in the hospital.

ahhh... but my plan is to ferment the durian and come up with some form of wine or spirit!!

no it's bad. try putting the durian in your fridge and even the fried rice u made the night before and lef in the fridge is going to smell like durians! the smell permeates EVERYTHING. my entire family eats durians....and on such occasions i prefer to leave the house and not go back home.
The scent is HEAVENLY!!! And cold durian from a nite in the fridge is Bliss!!! Time to visit Sims Avenue again!!

The smell doesn't bother me as much, but yeah, it does get into everything... but it's a fun fruit.... What else do you get to wrestle open?

Jackfruit?? That's just a pain in the ass fruit.... esp when unripe... My mum used to make me cut the damned things for curry.... sheesh! So sticky!

Eh, what abt a rambutan cocktail of some sort?
ok something really mild is Durian cake - not the brown thing that we are all used to. But your run of the mill sponge cake - flavoured durian.
While I'm a fan of Durian the fruit - i've never enjoyed any of it's products - even the ice cream. But this cake (new invention - 2 years or so) is really yummy.

rambutan martini would be similar to lychee ones i assume...refreshing and nice...plus rambutans can be found in cans...makes life easier.

How long does it take to put a sari on? A woman at Book Club is Indian and was wearing a sari at the weekend and implied it would take a very long time to get it "just right". Her mother wears them very well and she feels she has to live up to the standard set by her family!
By the way - I shan't be seeking out fleshy, stinky SE Asian fruit anytime soon. Sounds GROSS.

i take abt 15 to 20min. cos i'm fussy.
ppl who wear them regularly will naturally take 5 min. my mother takes 40min....not kidding. she needs the pleats to be exactly where she wants them to be....she needs the length of the throwover to be exactly 3/4 of her height.....and guess who has to help her with all this....*grumble*

it's an understanding in my house. mother brings out sari, swinger drops whatever she is doing and goes in to help.

always...it used to be my dad....until she realised it was useless to keep calling him for half an hour when he pretends to watch something totally interesting on tv. she cannot get my brother to move. so the next best option. me.

Sari is really not that difficult to put on - depending on the material. I hate the really soft materials like buttersilk cause i'm paranoid about it falling apart and overdose on the pins and all to hold it up!!!
I do like my throwover to be long though - quite particular about that. Have also discovered that the Gujarati style sari (with the throw over in front) does not suit me at all.
