    2007-08-27 14:04:55.0

I hit my monthly download this month...

    2007-11-25 01:58:17.0

    What's your limit?

    2007-11-25 05:53:52.0

    10G.

For the first two months I had 20 gigs due to some mix up (which I had to pay for grrrr) and I never even got close to the half way mark.

    2007-11-25 15:44:06.0

I think I'd run over that fairly regularly... we have a 40GB limit and I make good use of it XP

    2007-11-25 16:43:03.0

    :O

I'm rarely ever at home. My usage would only be in the evenings or on the weekends. Unless I set something to download overnight, which is rare.

    2007-11-25 16:48:56.0

Well as we are boasting...I'm a 100GB man myself

    2007-11-26 05:28:42.0

Then again, I'm sure I must have maxed out that 40GB on at least on download-heavy month, and we never heard anything from them.. so I guess you could say I have an infinityGB limit :P

    2007-11-26 10:14:34.0

    LOL Boasting abt limits!

Hey JR, how much does that cost you, if you don't mind me asking?

    2007-11-26 14:59:48.0

There is no limit on my BT broadband but it's subject to a "fair use" clause whereby they don't complain so long as I don't hog all the bandwidth and I can't run a web or sub-net service on the end of the line (multiple users outside my family).  It's a 8Mbs service and I have actually seen my download speed peak at 7.8Mbs...

It costs £25 per month.   Tongue out

    2007-11-27 01:28:27.0

Our service is supposedly 8mbps, but I've never seen anything close to that in actual download speed (maybe if it was 8 mega bits per second, and 1 mega byte per second, but even then I very very rarely see downloads get close to that)

There was that one time when the time it took to download a tiny file was so negligible that Firefox reported an average speed of "infinity kbps" but that doesn't really help the fact that large downloads are doing well if they're beating 200kbps (and torrents are doing well if they beat 30kbps.. probably because of my limited upload capabilities)

    2007-11-27 12:28:27.0

That is, in fact, what the 8Mbs service offers.  1MBs tops.  Up to a couple of years ago myself and a few friends in the village rented a 2Mbs sat-com link.  Hooked it up to a router and beamed it about the village using 2.4GHz.  That was between 5 of us and it was extremely fast in comparison to the 20:1 contention rates through ADSL.  Plus it was 2Mbs each way.

    2007-11-27 14:15:58.0

Patetic. We pays for 10/10 mbps (download/upload) and gets about 12/12.XP

Being a techie geek in Sweden r0xx0rz. Swedish early techie adopters FTW!

    2008-01-03 06:51:15.0

Note to self: move to Sweden. I've heard good things about it as a country, and they have good broadband. What's not to like?

Plus if you go far enough north you can spend several days in night XP I never understand why that makes people depressed.. I think the night is pretty awesome. The perpetual-sunlight period would annoy me more.

    2008-01-03 08:54:58.0

    Hear hear!!!

I'll be right behind ya SK

    2008-01-03 13:40:39.0

Oh wait.... it's really really cold there....

    2008-01-03 13:40:54.0

Move to Kiruna in Sweden. The broadband speeds over there makes even me jealous.

BTW: We are paying about 30 dollars a month for our broadband connection - that goes trough a ethernet "plug" in the wall.

And the temperature depends on how far north you move. The best techie/temperature-mix you can get is in Stockholm.

    2008-01-04 04:53:22.0

30 US dollars or Australian dollars? (Or Canadian dollars... or Bahamian dollars, Barbadian dollars, Belize dollars, Bermudian dollars, Brunei dollars, Cayman Islands dollars, Cook Islands dollars, East Caribbean dollars, Fijian dollars, Guyanese dollars, Hong Kong dollars, Jamaican dollars, Kiribati dollars, Liberian dollars, Namibian dollars, New Zealand dollars, Samoan tala Singapore dollars, Solomon Islands dollars, Surinamese dollars, New Taiwan dollars, Trinidad and Tobago dollars, or Zimbabwean dollars,)

    2008-01-04 10:16:48.0

US dollars. Approximatley. For about 300 SEK (swedish kronors) you'll get 10/10 mbps in Sweden. Pay 200 SEK and you'll get 10/1. (Download/upload).

    2008-01-04 16:55:34.0

ok.. so £15ish, now I know what to compare to.

Cheaper than here... £15/month would get you some broadband, but not as good as 10mbps

The ISPs here stiff you as well... its always "up to x mbps" the "up to" being because that's the speed at the exchange, which you could be sharing with half your street. Plus all kinds of crap about how you can't actually use all the bandwidth they promise you (because they don't have enough to fulfil everything they promise) under a "fair use agreement" i.e. they won't allow you to run torrents 24/7.

Do you get the same crap in Sweden or is it even more awesome?

    2008-01-05 02:55:51.0

    Wow... that's dirt cheap

    2008-01-05 02:57:31.0

It's "up to" in here to, but some of us are more lucky than others... xD

We live in an apartment building owned by "HSB", and they have set up something that's called "HSB Bolina". It's basicly a ethernet connection in the wall. No phone lines here, just plug your PC directly in to the wall.

And did I forget to mention that we got a free WIFI router with support for signal encryption?
