Hmmm, very interesting deezee, but I knew that my brain was a mess before I read that very interesting article. My daughter once (years ago) calculated that I must only have about 2 neuron's left and by this time I reckon the figure would be closer to 1½....(that is of course if you are indeed allowed to have a ½ of a neuron) Embarassed

Given that it can fix itself, should you still have 2?

    2008-06-05 00:37:20.0

Theoretically I should have at least 2, but I haven't looked for a while....

    2008-06-05 00:55:20.0

As to the "Just one question", question, I believe that most of the questioners wasted their question on frivolous questions..UndecidedI would like to ask Albert Einstein and Arthur Eddington some questions about astrophysics and cosmology.....

    2008-06-05 00:55:35.0

some were funny though... like the two comedians asking each other abt why they do or don't get depressed:)

    Roma People

Whoa... Wonder if this explains the 'affinity' I've felt for them. Have always wanted to be a Gypsie!

    2008-07-23 19:55:37.0

If you trace back my family waaaaayyyy back, we actually come from gypsy's on one side and vikings on the other

    2008-07-23 20:24:11.0

    We're related!!!!

    *runs over and hugs you*

    2008-07-23 20:28:47.0

Everyone's related in some way or another... it's just a question of how far back you have to go to find some common ancestry :P

    2008-07-24 04:45:05.0

Thats kinda gross... I could be sleeping with a distant cousin Yell

    2008-07-24 19:57:44.0

If only I'd turned out to be a mutant

    2008-07-24 20:01:30.0

The reason for incest being bad is to keep up genetic diversity. If a cousin is distant enough then the danger of inbreeding goes away... which is fortunate, since every other person on the planet will be some kind of cousin to every other person. Although when it gets to the point of being your 1357th cousin 42 times removed, I think it's safe to say no-one's going to be able to ever trace the relationship.

    2008-07-25 04:29:13.0

has anyone else noticed..............that the more cultures/races start mixing the better looking the human race has become?

    2008-07-25 09:27:32.0

There's an explanation for that... which I can't remember.

    Maybe SK knows

    2008-07-25 20:15:56.0

The whole world is gonna be brown one day

    2008-07-26 03:03:10.0

Why do you assume I know? :P

I could hazard a guess... but that's all it'd be

    2008-07-26 08:14:08.0

First idea, are you sure the human race has actually become better looking, or is it just that the standards/ideals for what "good looking" is has changed?

Second, it could be due to a general increase in the time we have available to worry about the way we look, not to mention the rise of the cosmetics industry.

    2008-07-26 08:20:20.0

Or it could be that mixing and recombining genetics that had diverged off into different cultures, races, populations etc really is beneficial and produces good looking humans XP

    2008-07-26 08:21:36.0

Or it could be that mixing and recombining genetics that had diverged off into different cultures, races, populations etc really is beneficial and produces good looking humans XP

    that is my theory....Laughing

    2008-07-26 10:39:56.0

My sis studied this stuff, and she'd say something about the DNA of both parents being different and the merging doing some unusual stuff. I can't remember.

I just cringe when a mix-race couple gets married and people comment that their kids are gonna be good looking.

    2008-07-26 20:16:02.0

And yes, I did think you'd know SK. You're the encyclopaedia of interesting facts to me. SKpaedia

    :)

    2008-07-26 20:16:51.0

    SKpaedia... I like that XP

    2008-07-27 04:36:47.0

    XP Just came to me

    2008-07-27 06:31:38.0

I just cringe when a mix-race couple gets married and people comment that their kids are gonna be good looking.

    Why?

    2008-07-27 19:17:38.0

Cos the race of the couple doesn't matter.

    All kids are good looking!

    2008-07-27 19:29:43.0

What? Not all kids are good looking. Not all adults are good looking, so even if they're all born good looking (which I doubt) at some point in their lives some kids would have to become ugly.

Seriously... there is such a thing as an ugly child

    Check out these 2 -

    2008-07-28 04:48:42.0

But all kids are good looking!

    2008-07-28 05:36:43.0

Except for one of my nephews, who I thought was a chimp when I first saw

    2008-07-28 05:37:00.0

But the evidence is right in front of you - that kid, right of the picture. He's fugly like a mule!

    2008-07-28 05:38:43.0

When I say kids, I mean smaller, when they're still cute.... waaay before they're able to pose like that:P

    2008-07-28 05:39:56.0

Wasn't it Blue Mink who wanted to drop everyone in a melting pot and have loads of coffee coloured people (or something)?

    2008-07-28 14:51:31.0

    and who is blue mink?

    2008-07-28 14:52:35.0

Hmmmm, wonder if Dek would drink them?  What's the cannibal equivalent of drinking?

    2008-07-28 14:54:38.0

    A 60's pop group

    2008-07-28 14:55:08.0

oh.....okay, i get it........sounded familiar....but i was afraid that maybe you had misunderstood something i said...

    ......although coffee does sound delicious.....

    2008-07-28 14:56:27.0

    2008-07-28 14:58:06.0

Very appropriate Bluegirl.  I haven't heard that song for 30 years or so...

    2008-07-28 15:02:13.0

And I haven't worked out what I'm supposed to have misunderstood...

    2008-07-28 15:03:54.0

you didn't misunderstand anything.....when you said blue mink...i thought you might have been talking about me.

    2008-07-28 15:04:54.0

Oh Ok.  Well there are plenty of other things around that are blue, however I don't suppose that any of them are anything like a near equivalent to you...

I reckon that is the first and last attempt at poetry this year..  Last years attempt wasn't so goog on account that it didn't rhyme.

    2008-07-28 15:08:35.0

What is it I would drink?

    2008-07-28 16:26:18.0

    The coffee-coloured people

    because they look like coffee

    and dek likes coffee

so she might drink the coffee people.

    2008-07-28 17:03:34.0

    coffee! XP

    2008-07-28 17:03:39.0

Have had 1/1/2 cups of coffee already... I think I'll be needing waaay more today.

    My head won't stop hurtin:(

    2008-07-28 19:10:30.0

doesn't coffee dehydrate you? it is possible that you should stop drinking coffee and start on the water.

    2008-07-28 19:17:56.0

Oh, I've been having water all thru the morning

    2008-07-28 19:20:18.0

Had lots of water yesterday too.

Lack of sleep makes me drink more water. There's this strange feeling in the mouth I try to get rid off

    2008-07-28 19:21:01.0

that was probably that magic camel that rolled around in your mouth whilst you were sleeping

    2008-07-28 19:22:52.0

    Except I wasn't sleeping..

    2008-07-28 19:24:01.0

    Explain that!

    2008-07-28 19:24:03.0

I don't recognise myself in there at all.

When I get to work and have my first coffee, I usually just stare blankly at the screen, still trying to wake up.

Oh wait, I do that all the time!

    2008-07-28 21:02:02.0

My morning coffe is 10 minutes of checking my emails.

    2008-07-28 21:02:19.0

By the time I get my morning coffee, I'm awake, cos it involves getting out of bed and walking.

On days like today, when I'm seriously sleep deprived, coffee doesn't help. It's like my brain's engine has started, and coffee keeps it going, but the thing that puts it into gear and steps on the accelerator is missing

    2008-07-28 22:49:51.0

    I can relate

    2008-07-28 23:17:38.0

Got a mechanic you could refer me to?

    2008-07-28 23:19:31.0

I find that it's easy to wake up in the winter time, its that first butt numbing shock of a cold toilet seat that makes the eye lids snap open..Surprised

    2008-07-28 23:56:39.0

speaking as a person who has fallen asleep in the shower.........nothing happens before coffee....

    2008-07-28 23:58:08.0

    Oops, that can be dangerous....

    2008-07-28 23:59:40.0

I'm not a coffee drinker, so I don't have that problemWink

    2008-07-29 00:00:39.0

    yes it can.

besides coffee being a necessary part of my day...........it is one of my favorite beverages.

    2008-07-29 00:01:17.0

I don't mind a cup of coffee, but I rarely have more than one or two a year, and then only when someone else makes it.

    I was a cappuccino-a-holic many years ago.Frown

    2008-07-29 00:08:57.0

    i feel you.

    2008-07-29 00:09:47.0

Re the bad taste in the mouth first thing in the morning.  I find that it is always a bloke called John Smith shitting in your mouth when asleep.  The bastard usually nicks all my money and throws my clothes around the floor as well...

    2008-07-29 09:44:48.0

But I was referring to when you don't get much sleep, and your mouth constantly feels like sandpaper for some reason

    2008-07-29 14:59:15.0

Your mouth dries out because you don't produce much saliva while sleeping, various little bugs proliferate more than normal, they make your mouth taste nasty and feel crappy... not a lot you do about it.

    2008-07-30 05:48:01.0

Actually, my theory is that your body dehydrates when you don't sleep enough. Some process goes wrong somewhere.

I once went for a week with no sleep a couple of nights, and 2-3 naps other nights, and no matter how much fluids I drank, I was just dehydrated. Took forever to recover from that

    2008-07-30 05:56:48.0

Well... if you produce less saliva while sleeping, wouldn't that help you to conserve your water? That and the fact that you're just lying there doing nothing, not working up a sweat with any rigorous standing up or walking around or anything like that ;)

    2008-07-30 08:09:46.0

But that doesn't explain the body's inability to process water?

    2008-07-30 16:39:24.0

I was just thinking that if sleep helps conserve water, too little sleep would dehydrate you... there may well be more complex things at work - all kinds of things stop working when you don't sleep properly.

    2008-07-30 19:42:15.0

    Yeh.... like the brain

    2008-07-30 19:44:31.0

I just saw something on BBC 10 mins ago about how middle-aged singles are more likely to develop Alzheimer's!

    2008-07-30 19:45:57.0

    ah fuck.

    2008-07-30 19:46:32.0

I thought to myself - Nah, still ain't enough to change my mind abt marriage:P

    2008-07-30 19:47:05.0

"Divorcees who remained single, they noticed, had a trebled risk of dementia..."

    ah....triple fuck.

    2008-07-30 19:52:53.0

    HAHAHAHAHAH

    2008-07-30 19:55:09.0

No worries..... We aren't doomed cos we probably communicate more than couples;)

    2008-07-30 19:55:40.0

I would guess that's because there's some correlation between "middle aged single" and "lonely shut-in", and hence increased risk of Alzheimer's due to decreased interaction with people.

Keep Tangling and you'll be fine ;)

    2008-07-30 19:55:45.0

when i was 16, i spent a summer at a boarding school in vermont.....in the middle of the woods......
....the cabin/house (it was sort of a log cabin, but it was big and really nice)......had floor to ceiling (2 stories high) windows in the living room........i used to get high and curl up in a cozy chair......smoking cigarettes and watching the smoke in the rays of sunlight streaming through the windows........it was amazing.......

i'm sure my mother....who really had to scrounge for funds to send me to this place, would be really happy to hear this........but the it is still a very strong image in my mind.........very peaceful and happy...
