I'm always saying I'm not the corporate type - I'd never work for a big company...
But the video in this article has me reconsidering: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/7672149.stm
The slide!! I want that slide!
And the Water Room (I think that's what it's called) - That's close to my idea of paradise![]()
Oh, and the library looks like an awesome place too
I got an email a few months ago which I don't have right now (but I printed it out, if you want to see it
) Of some of the perks you get for working at Mountain View, a huge room with video games and pool, a huge 5 star free meal cooked for you by their chef, relaxation 'pods'... wow!
I've heard about those things... and while interesting, it's never made me wanna work there.
But that slide did it![]()
Of course, this means I'd have to relocate to the UK, not the US
....or stay here for that matter
What do they have in London that they don't have in Mountain View?
THE SLIDE!!!
*banging head against keyboard*
Yep, that's it
Yeah the other one pointed to the queen
The video's at the bottom of the article, which is where I found it
The video is of the queen.
After the video they have a similar vid to click which opens what you're talking about.
I just thought a direct link would be a better approach
Oh... they changed it in the last few hours!![]()
Thanks again Morgan
![]()
i'm sure if you ask nicely they'll put a slide in the office for you.....though they probably wouldn't get any work out of you if they did...

WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!
Google does seem to be the general consensus for "best place to work, in the world, ever"...
Yep!
See, Dek, there are Google Slides everywhereeeeee.....
The internet is a series of slides...
Whee!
is use of the slide required?
just curious...
"Sorry Dek, we have to lay you off... you haven't been using the slide the required 56 times per day, as is stated in your contract,"
"*'* ********!"
HAHAHA.... well I haven't seen her around here since.... so she must be doing something!!
is use of the slide required?
Yes, in fact, there is the official Slide Rule at Google. It is also useful for calculating PageRank when the power goes out![]()
![]()
You fellas making fun of my slide??
no.....not if you let us have a go on it...
you know.....i might even pay to work there...
if i had a job and money that is.....![]()
Heh.
*Downloads forged PhD from Internets*
*Sends said PhD to Google*
![]()
![]()
somehow i get the feeling the might notice its a fake...and could probably recommend several other sites with better quality ones...
Naw, I got mine from theGoogle page on 'How to be hired in a completely legal way if you 'don't have' a degree!"
*Walks the 6 miles down the road to Google HQ, sits down and pretends to be working*
i suppose they might hire you to sort through all the other fake degrees to see if there are any genuine ones...
You lives nar Mountain View? Me hatez u.
I wonder why people would send their degrees to theGoogle ![]()
probably for the same reason as you....assuming you had a reason....
They had to make sure mine was an authentic forgery, duh!
do you get a certificate to say its an authentic forgery?
Yup, then some nice officers show up to escort you to work, which looks a lot like a jail cell!
i'm sure you'll be happy in your new job....
It's awesome that we have complementary WiFi here.
I actually asked a woman at a hotel in Madrid wether they had WiFi or not... apparantly Spaniards say 'wee-fee' instead of the more accepted 'y-fy'.
I use wee-fee instead now, it just sounds cooler... lol.
"wee-fee" - Isn't that what you pay for Nintendo's new console (Wii fee?)
[two drums and a DJ fall off a cliff - ba-dum ptsh!]
I'd imagine it would be more like:
Ba
Dum
Frrrreeeeee
eeeeee
weeeeeeew
eeeeeeeeeeeeeee
wwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
wwww....
*splat*
And yes, you deserved the splat.
*comes in. reads. thinks. laughs*
*exit*
Do you think anyone at google would actually notice you didn't belong if somebody just walked in off the street and pretended to work?
I would imagine they have some sort of security on the entrance... keycards or ID badges or something.
Call me crazy, but I think most places prefer to prevent random folks wandering in off the street
If they just let people in there's all that risk that they'll do something nutty like industrial espionage (or start a fire...)
You know, it might just be possible in a company big enough...
Especially if you're in one of those skyscraping buildings...
Yeah!! You could fly in by helicopter and enter through the roof!!
*grins*
LOL!
I'm thinking unless you work in a govt agency etc, getting in shouldn't be too hard
Also, would be a bonus to pick a company with a high ppl turnover rate
A friend of a friend once wanted to work for a certain company so bad, he walked in with his resume and said Human Resources sent him and he was here for the interview.
He didn't get one, but he said it almost worked. - good strategy I guess...
It really could... given that in a really big firm, the left hand rarely knows what the right is doing
Exactly. ![]()
A large public library, like we have downtown, wouldn't be too hard. Then again, a bunch of homeless people keep hanging out there to get work... It's sad... ![]()
At least they have the opportunity to get educated there, and hey, they're trying!!
Yea, I suppose. Atleast the world will (hopefully) start being more nicerer to porerer peoples when we're all broke...
3,
2,
1,
YAY!
I don't mean to be cynical, but i don't think it's ever gonna happen...
The rich keep getting richer and the poor keep getting poorer....
Except at the moment, where the rich are getting poorer too hehe
According to Malthus' critics, the rich are getting much richer and the poor are getting richer, just at a much slower rate.
Hmmm.......
A few ad agencies in Sydney and elsewhere have had slides for ages - Leo Burnetts's I seem to remember had one ten years ago
pah! who needs google?
OMG that is AWESOME!
I'd be very scared at the first, unprotected section of it, though... other than that... zomgawesomenezz!
COOOOOL!!!
Would be a bit of a pain getting to work though![]()
... yeah, climbing up all that tubing looks like a lot of work. And if you slip, you'll end up back at home again.![]()
Eggactly...
Like playing snakes and ladders... but worse
I'm back and the first post I see on your Tangle is "I wanna go work for Google" ???? From the "grass is always greener" department... what If I told you I'd choose living in Sydney over Mountain View anytime.... [slide or no slide at employer...]
If you told me you'd choose Sydney over Mountain View, I'd say - You've made the correct choice!![]()
And how could this have been the first post you saw? Given that 'My bro's music' was the latest topic... and it has an entertaining clip too!
hehehe
So where's the job offer... down in a flash on receipt.![]()
Re first post: just the way the brain works... the threatening automatically brings a flight or fight response... in Cybernetic circles its an algerdonic message - bypasses all the other stuff by way of direct response rather than going throught hte concsious filters...
Just watched the clip.... and yes entertaining... but that's a higher response...
LOL!
Hang on... so you're saying 'I wanna go work for Google' was read as a threat by your brain?
Yup. What would the whole Tangler tangle be without you?
It would be a Tangle![]()
And yes, flattery will get you everywhere
What's with the Avatar... I thought it was a choc chip cookie (in small size) and have to interupt this session to go find one.... choc chip cookies dunked in Orange Pekoe tea, mmmmm
What's Pekeo tea?
What's Orange?
![]()
Avatar is a picture of my new bobble head desk thingy....
In the spirit of Halloween!![]()
Bric, meet Synth.... or Sycho, as I fondly call him![]()
Don't you know Orange [pekoe tea] is a generic term for blended black tea -- Orange and Black is my nod of the head to the spirit of Halloween... Hello Synho ... being picking up the slack while I've been on hiatus?
Ohhh.... pekoe tea
*says it a few times*
Has a funny sound to it. Cute word!
Synho? uhm... ERG!
Lol!
Bricoleur and Synthuir -- very related metaphorically I would say
and whoops ... my typing skills still need some work (not Synho... bad , Bad David)
Metaphorically related?
Ooh, Obama speech I couldn't go to is probably on now!
Eh?
first the orange pekoe
Oooooo.... how interesting!
And in talking about metaphorically related:
Bricolage (the process) is all about synthesizing something useful (and usually quite remarkable) from bits and pieces found at hand... think of McGiver as the quintessential Bricoleur ( the performance artist)
While the standard dictionary definition for a "synthesist": an intellectual who synthesizes or uses synthetic methods
I read "Synthuir" and think Synthesis... Which is what a Bricoleur does....
Hmm... Maybe I should just be Chimera, then. ![]()
If the composition fits...![]()
And once again I've hijacked one of Dek's conversation... I don't know quite how that happens.... off to do some wind-down work for a client ... catch you soon....
LOL! No worries. Think you hijacked an already hijacked topic, in which case, it matters not
Wow.. you guys have been busy!!
I thank Bricoleur for the vocabulary, however MacGyver is one of my personal heroes, and I cannot abide anyone misspelling his name.
We loves MacGyver....
Yes, we does
I think it's cos of him I'm into cars and studied Engineering
*has no idea who MacGyver is...*
*goes and looks him up...*
Yea... I knew who 'he' was because of various things, esp. seeing on an AOTS podcast today that they were offering MacGyver episodes on YouTube, now. I spent the ~1 hr. and watched an episode. Now THAT's what I call epic.
OH MY DOG
Sir M, I can't believe you don't know who MacGyver is!!!
I thought he was a woman for the longest time....
I used to think that mullet was HOT!
I don't anymore
Well, yes, saying 'used to' usually means that you don't anymore...
Well, not necessarily... in this case we're talking about something that happened a loooooong time ago
Ahh, I see.
This'd be cool to have in the office: http://gadgets.boingboing.net/2008/10/30/hobart-icool-chair-h.html
a button marked "abruptly swivel 180 degrees to face Bond." - ROFL!
Hahaha... I loled at that, too. The funny commentary is why I gave you the triple-featured artice link.
Duke Jake (and legions of others I no doubt offended): My abject apology over "MacGyver" ... half of it was outright error; the other half fingers that go other than where they were intended to go on the keyboard (I really did type Gyver... I'm sure .... but did get the Mac wrong
) ... but either way that's no excuse and getting names wrong borders on the unforgiveable, but I plead for yours anyways....
*tsk tsk*
Okay, I forgive ya!
at the risk of getting in more hot water... I admired the character, but the lust some of the women at my office at the time kind of left me incredulous... or do you think that was just envious????
I have no idea.... I was young, and primarily in love with the mechanics of it...
I know my sis had a huge crush on it, and that's why she used to watch Stargate (I think that's the name of the show
)
Yup, both shows were filmed literally in my backyard.. its always near but a little jarring when you recognize all the places as "home" when they are supposed to be somewhere else. The soundstage for Stargate was a 2 minute work from my office..There didn't seem to be the same number of young ladies with a crush on Richard Dean Anderson by the time he was in Stargate though
*retroactive
on the comments above*
they were not meant to be taken literally
LOL! Are you glad you are taken seriously DJ?![]()
Bric - regarding 'things being filmed in your own backyard'
I have to say, it was a thrill watching the first Matrix. It was filmed in Sydney, and the city as the backdrop looked gorgeous!
As an aside, I pass this building on the way to and from work, and it's recently been listed for sale. On the billboard advertising that, it says - used in filming of The Matrix.
Egad! They were that close to me all that while!
I missed Keanu by this much! *puts finger and thumb together*
We had one of the "extra" sound stages for "I Robot" in the warehouse the otherside of the parking lost from my office.... in three months I never saw any of the actors coming or going....Will Smith might not have even been in any of the shots filmed in it for all I know as the main studio was much further away... so I'm not sure that I missed him by * * this much...
Gosh, it's always mad when Hollywood shoots in Sydney. Like radio stations have 'Spot the Actor' segments n all that.
Dek.. if they had the city as a backdrop, then almost all the buildings were used in filming. It's probably just a marketing ploy. I mean, if Keanu was that close to you all the time, don't you think he would have dropped by to say hi?
There's a movie I liked when I was younger called Garage Days, it was filmed in Newtown, and I love walking through there and recognising everything from the scenes. Newtown's just like that though, it's a very vibrant part of the city.
Oh no Morgan... the building I'm talking about isn't in the city, it's on Botany Rd.
They used the interior of that, possibly as a sound stage etc.
And yeah, Keanu should have dropped in... how rude of him!
Yeah, Newton I like too
Wait, a two-minute work, Bric?
that's the fingers acting up again while I type: work, walk .... its all the same don't you know?
Ahh, I didn't know if by work you meant it was hard to get there, like up a glacier, or something.
Another reason to get Google to headhunt me:
It reminds me of being in high school - that get-together-and-create-mischief environment![]()
Duuuuuuuude!
What what??
That's cool, but impractical here.
That being said, next week we will make a huge fire with superballs and aerosol deodorant.
Other things on my agenda:
Building dual-musical Tesla coils:
Build a trebuchet
Build hovershoes:
I wanna work in this office!
Check out some of the related vids at the end - ah...reminds me of the days ![]()
Also check out: http://officeolympics.net/
hahahahah Looks like fun, but think I'll save my ribs the pleasure
I think this is from the same guys
hahahah You just sit there, watch, and wait for the inevitable spill
It is good for the entertainment of others, however.
wow...what a great way to pass the time....![]()
i was expecting someone to miss the corner and go straight into the wall...but falling off was just as good..
hmmm...i spy an opportunity here...a sort of Top Gear for office furniture...tested to destruction....
ooh adding motors to office chairs would ROCK!!!
Top Gear for office furniture sounds good.... and will be a sure fire hit if we do bad things to comps
do bad things to comps?
you mean like let dek near them?![]()
Is dek a magnet?
Dek the destroyer
kekeke
awww...she sounds so proud of that title...![]()
Who wouldn't be?!
Can I be your sidekick?
I'll settle for Morgan the Masher!!
ROFL!
That's a perfect combination!
Me thinks you'd be especially useful for getting rid of evidence...
*...Walks away*
Hey Masher!......i've got a job for you......

hehe.. I wondered how long it would take before I saw a comment like that...
hahahaha
I confess, it was the first thing I thought of... but I decided to go with the second thing:

yeah...but it was too early for any sort of original thinking...
hehehe ![]()
Sending ...
