My dear dearest dearful Tanglerites,
So here's the thing - I've resigned from my position at Tangler. Next Friday will be my last full time day. (I'll still be around at times, working for Tangler during the transition phase)
But this isn't goodbye. S'if anything will keep me from you guys

I seem to be confused by the change of area codes, I could have sworn that 213 was the area code for the whole of Southern California but it seems that things have changed since it was introduced in 1947 - oh well..
And it doesn't matter what you say, tofu is still shit with no flavour.

Telephone number codes. 213 used to cover the south end of California but it now only covers downtown Los Angeles, which is not San Francisco, so I've been posting bollocks on a couple of forums...

A few factors. Am on the cusp of spending half my life in Sydney. The wanderlust has paid me a visit. And I fell in love with SF. Want to live there for a bit. Plus that's where the industry is concentrated, so I wanna go play in the big pond for a bit
All this ties in with the fact that I'm free. This is the time to do it
Couldn't agree with you more Dek. If this world had a few more people with some 'get up and bloody well go for it' about them then we'd be a lot better off. You are going to do it! Go and get it and if you don't then don't blame anyone for not .... well you know what I mean, go get 'em and Enjoy!

I vary between being all excited about it and then thinking 'what the bloody hell am I thinking?!'. Usually that's after looking at the loooooong to-do list I have to get thru before leaving in March.
I think back to the first time I made a big move - coming to Aust - and all I pretty much had to do was clean my room out, pack two bags and get on a plane.
This time, there are infinitely more bases to cover..... I want my Daaaaad - cuz he took care of everything the last time!! *wails*

I have a simple strategy. I'm getting rid of ALL my possessions.
That's the spirit. Toothbrush, comb and a packet of smokes. Everything else should be obtained when you get there. That way you won't be reminding yourself of the old life... except the good memories which should be added to the above list.
Well, it's a strange position to be in... I'm going to first look for a job. If I don't get it, I'll be back living here.
So the idea is to get rid of everything that I won't be taking with me *if* I'm making the move to live there. Took a bit of thinking thru to get to this stage. Otherwise the tendency was to hand on to stuff I'd use if I were back here.
And it's amazing how much stuff there is in this house. Not all mine, sure, but there is A LOT of stuff to give away.
So... anyone need anything?

Seriously, the amount of stuff I have in my own house scares me.

I was talking to my sis, and I was telling her about some of the stuff I gave away, like a set of 50 colour pencils. She said 'when did we get those?'.
And that's the thing - things get acquired and then kept. Once they gain a spot in the house, they just stay there, in the background.
When I move into a new place, I'll just get all the basic furniture, and then nothing else. No additional storage places. If there isn't already room for it, I ain't gonna get it.
I'm not sure that's a good plan. People must have things, it's in our genes. All you'll end up doing is hating the place you live in because there is nowhere to put your stuff...
Clutter makes a place feel lived in... pure minimalism just leaves the place feeling like a show-house, not a place where someone actually spends their time.

Although some women (Mrs Dent in particular) don't appear to like certain stuff. For example a nice bit of shelving that is occupied with a box of cigars, a few magazines (not the pornographic variety) and some other bits and pieces of useful assorted stuff normally gets cleared immediately and the useful stuff is replaced with neat and tidy things. Things are not in the category of useful stuff.

And no, I'm not saying I won't have stuff. But I won't have extra stuff.
And the more storage space you created, the more you collect. Most places these days come with wardrobes and cabinet space - my aim is to not use up more than that.
My bedroom has a walkway, from the door to the bed, to the wardrobe. I don't have room for stuff, so it clutters along walls, and in corners, etc. Right now, sitting on my bed, I'm staring at 5 boxes (still not unpacked), an overflowing wardrobe stuffed with clothes that don't all fit in there, a couple of suitcases (also still unpacked because of the lack of space in said wardrobe), a stack of books, a stack of dvds, a guitar, two lamps, a frypan(?), some old bills, a pile of dirty laundry, and a couple of spots filled with odds and ends.
I'm currently looking for a new apartment, and I'm thinking of getting a place with an extra bedroom, just so I have somewhere to stash it all!
Why not just get rid of some of the stuff?

I got rid of pretty much everything I didn't need when I moved a few months ago. Everything I own is absolutely necessary. (Not to me at the moment, obviously, with most of it still in boxes) but when I move into my new apartment, I'll need it all.

I just got back from the new Ferrari showroom. Spent an hour there checking the beauties out and chatting with the security guard.

I was there two days ago, and he came up to me and we were very standoffish. He didn't like me being there, and I didn't like being interrupted
But then he recognised me today and started asking me what I was doing there etc, and then we just started talking. I feel sorry for him. It's a crap job. Stuck 12 hrs outside, with no access to facilities

I would love to come visit... it will depend on how things go for me. I'm sitting my ADF Officer exam next month. If all goes according to plan, I may not have as much free time any more. But if I'm ever in the US I will definitly take a few days to come visit.
And come to think of it, I will probably have many more resources at my disposal to track you down, if you were able to elude me

Dent ... Brisbane is much much worser than Seattle right now and SW QLD is an ocean. Though that part of the world is full of cotton growing water thiefs and they're getting a dose of karma. Two weeks ago we nearly bought a dryer but thought what do we want to throw a grand at something that we'd use once every two years and the rest of the time it'd make the laundry look even smaller. So I'm getting my dose of karma too. Qld ... sunny and in drought one day, pissing down and flooding the next.
Seems there's a huge storm over Melb right now too.

I've just been to the laundromat I think for the first time in my life. Don't wanna make class judgements but I will and tell you my clothes, sheets and towels have gone from wet ... to having the appearance of being dry and smelling like a caravan park.
