What are some of your picks for the greatest games of all time?
(Extra points for obscure retro games.
)
In no order at all: Elite Beat Agents, Jet Force Gemini, Donkey Kong Country, Tetris, Banjo-Kazooie, Viewtiful Joe, Resident Evil Four, and mine and my brother's favorite: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles In Time. Clay Fighters was also good because the graphics rocked. Come to think of it, Kirby or Fil would have been great characters in that game.
Also in no order at all: War of the Weeds (homebrew for the Nintendo DS), Animal Crossing, Legend of Zelda, Ocarina of Time, Pitfall, Crystal Castles, Defender, Qix, Return of the Invaders, H.E.R.O, Paradroid, Nethack, Soul Caliber, Descent, Resident Evil, Bard's Tale, Black and White, Quake, ToeJam and Earl
Dang, I should have put Animal Crossing on my list too!
NICE! I love many of those games. Especially: Elite Beat, Turtles in Time, & Toejam & Earl.
I'd have to go with the mainstream games of:
Super Mario 2
Halo
Super Mario 64
Final Fantasy 8
Metal Gear Solid
Phoenix Wright
Mario Kart DS
Grand Theft Auto Vice
Elder Scrolls Oblivion
BioShock
But for more obscure games I simply adore:
Alex Kidd in Miracle World
Fantasy Zone
Penguin Land
Maze (hidden in the Master System console)
Gunstar Heroes
Bushido Blade
Um Jammer Lammy
Mad Maestro
Hotel Dusk
Gun
I loved Gun and Mad Maestro. You should also look into getting Contact, since I see you own a DS. It's a great RPG.
Elite Beat Agents is very close, and +1 for Um Jammy Lammy, but I'd have to go with Majora's Mask, overall. I didn't find it as maddening (three days...three days...) as most people, I guess, and so I got a huge amount of enjoyment from its narrative.
Some others: Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (and Sonic Rush, perhaps, for carrying on the old-school goodness), Super Mario RPG, any and all Final Fantasies (but mostly III, VI, IX, and XII), Galaga, and the Tetris Attack/Puzzle League/Panel de Pon games.
For "normal" conpjuters: Cave Story (洞窟物語), Sam & Max Hit the Road, SpyFox 1 and 2 (before Humongous started to go south (and they're still goodies...hooray for ScummVM!)), La-Mulana, Passage (thanks for letting me in on this one), Arashi (a former Mac remake of Tempest), and most of Ambrosia and Freeverse's stuff.
Also, if web-based games count, I'd have to volunteer the Kingdom of Loathing.
How come no one has suggested NiGHTS yet, though?
EDIT: Oh yeah, there was also that one Game Boy (yes, the original) thing, Amazing Penguin. Simple formula, but a very fun challenge. I wasted days on that.
