  • What are you craving right now?

I love Chicago dogs.  Came home from Europe once via O'hare and had a dog at the airport.  With jalapenos and sauerkraut. Heaven on a bun!

  • What is your Favorite Cheese?

There's a cheese shop up in the Southern Highlands town of Robertson that has a cheddar and onion cheese that is great with Jatz peppered crackers and a nice red wine.  A good way to end a pleasant day in kangaroo valley.

  • Sandwiches

Lush also has a salami and feta sandwich that is pretty good, plus the lentil veggie burger with sweet chilli sauce.  Yum!

My favourite to-make sandwich is seeded mustard, mayo, Bega Strong and Bitey cheddar, and Hans Hungarian salami.  A bit of pesto mixed in the mayo is good, too.

In the states I like turkey and havarti cheese.  Safeway grocery stores have a deli where you can buy made to order sandwiches and this one is my favourite.

  • That's not a Pizza, this is a Pizza!

This has got to be the world's largest frozen pizza.  Safeway, the local grocery store chain, most like Woolies, sells these for $ US 7.00.  It is 1.4KG and must be 450MM in diameter.  Very tasty, and feeds a family of 4 with left overs.  Having just had a Woolies Pizza last week, there is no comparison in flavour as well as value for money.  God Bless America!

  • Vegaterianism, just a phase or for real?

    Maybe this is why?

A group of New Zealand vegans - people who do not eat any animal products - are shunning sex with meat eaters, claiming their bodies are made up of animal carcasses, a researcher said in a newspaper today.

"When you are vegan or vegetarian, you are very aware that when people eat a meaty diet, they are kind of a graveyard for animals," vegan Nichola Kriek told the Christchurch daily The Press.

Another said: "I would not want to be intimate with someone whose body is literally made up from the bodies of others who have died for their sustenance."

Annie Potts, co-director of the New Zealand Centre for Human and Animal Studies at Canterbury University, identified the people she called "vegansexuals" in her research study, Cruelty-Free Consumption in New Zealand: A National Report on the Perspectives and Experiences of Vegetarians and other Ethical Consumers.

  • Wine in a can?

Would be good to take to the beach for a BBQ.  Funny, but we're still into corks over here, even in moderately priced (read cheap) wines like the Aussie stuff I usually drink.  I buy the same exact wine in both countries, and the Australian-purchased ones have screw tops whilst the US version keeps the cork.  Now, corks are a hassle, and can fail, spoiling the wine where the screw tops are convenient and positively cap the wine.

There are some California wines from Bonny Doon in Santa Cruz that are in the $ US 30-50 range that have screw tops, so you can find them, but not on the "export" wines from Yalumba over here.

  • Apple Dumpling Day!

Peanut Butter and Celery is a very American snack.  My mum used to put them out as appetisers for Thanksgiving Dinner.  Also with Cheese Whiz.  Yummy!
