Just so we all know what has to happen at Interlagos, for either Massa or Hamilton to win the WDC..

If Massa wins in Brazil, Hamilton must finish at least fifth to be champion

If Massa is second, Hamilton must finish at least seventh

If Massa is third or lower, Hamilton is champion regardless of his result in Brazil

    Hamilton Pans Ferrari Drivers

As he shapes up to face a Ferrari offensive in Brazil this weekend, championship leader Lewis Hamilton has revealed he does not see the Italian team's drivers as his fiercest competitors.

The Briton's battle for 2008 honours with Felipe Massa will be played out at Interlagos this weekend, and as in China recently, the Brazilian's teammate Kimi Raikkonen will play a support role.

But when asked who on the F1 grid he fears most, the 23-year-old McLaren driver Hamilton looked elsewhere.

"I don't fear anyone," he told The Observer newspaper

ITV F1: goodbye or good riddance?

    29 October 2008 by Keith Collantine 69 Comments »

ITV will broadcast its final F1 race on Sunday.

It will be the 206th Grand Prix covered by the broadcaster. But because they interrupt races with adverts they have missed over 31 races’ worth of live action from the races alone.

Adverts are just one reason why the channel has attracted so much comment and criticism from fans in its 12 years as British F1 broadcaster. Will it be goodbye or good riddance when the transmission ends? more…

    Strange looking one too

    2008-11-01 21:01:19.0

As you mentioned, deezee, the first corner will be fun. (wonder how Hamilton plans to handle it)?

With Massa on poll, he should be ok, but Hamilton will need to watch out for Alonzo and Kimi..

    2008-11-01 21:05:43.0

I was gonna say Kimi will have to watch out for Lewis!

    :P

    2008-11-01 21:09:05.0

Nah, Kimi's got less to lose than Lewis......Lewis won't want to tangle with anyone, as it could cost him the WDC..

    2008-11-01 21:11:25.0

True... but he's gonna be as aggressive as he's ever been... and he doesn't like to be on the back foot

    2008-11-01 21:22:12.0

These situations frustrate him more than they should

    2008-11-01 21:22:26.0

Yep, that's why I don't think he will win it.....discipline has never been a strong point with him and I don't think he can withstand the temptation tio mix it with the other top drivers and this could be his undoing..

    2008-11-01 21:33:30.0

True... But he doesn't need to win the race to win the championship...

    2008-11-01 21:34:03.0

No, he only has to come fifth, but he has to tread a fine line between being agressive and risking a touch and possible damage, or even a DNF,  and driving camly and safely to finish better than 5th..

But I don't think that he is mature enough to drive a non agressive race, and that may well prove to be  his achilles heel..

    2008-11-01 21:40:27.0

I do think he is savvy enough to learn from his part mistakes. I don't think he'll throw this race away by crashing out etc

    2008-11-01 21:43:45.0

He's got to come 5th or better and he's starting from 4th on the grid, so he can't afford to muck around too much..

    2008-11-01 21:48:27.0

Here's something else that could prove critical in the race........

New engines, no jokers - who’s running what in Brazil?

Reliability could play a key part in the outcome of this weekend’s title decider in Sao Paulo. Under the 2008 Formula One regulations, ‘joker’ engine changes are not permitted at the final round of the season, so anyone experiencing a failure ahead of the Interlagos race will definitely take a 10-place grid drop.

In theory, that means those starting the weekend on a fresh V8 have an advantage over those whose engines are on the second of the required two-race cycle. Not only are the newer engines likely to have slightly more power, their drivers will also feel they can afford to push them that little bit harder.

So who has a fresh engine? The majority of the field in fact, including title contender Felipe Massa. His championship rival Lewis Hamilton is one of just seven drivers whose engine will be on its second race. The seven in full are:

    Lewis Hamilton, McLaren
    Nick Heidfeld, BMW Sauber
    David Coulthard, Red Bull
    Mark Webber, Red Bull
    Nico Rosberg, Williams
    Kazuki Nakajima, Williams
    Adrian Sutil, Force India

    2008-11-01 22:24:45.0

Yeah, but Lewis hasn't had a single engine failure all season, and Heikki had the first since 2006! I doubt engine isses will be on his mind.

Also, the Ferraris are being touted as being faster on this circuit... But Heikki was the one to set the fastest lap in quali.

    Hi everyone!

Mark Farley (Shell Project Manager for Ferrari) here for the season-ending Brazilian Grand Prix. For the third year in a row, the World Championship has come down to the last race in front of the fanatical crowd that packs the grandstands every year. And with such a racing pedigree it’s no surprise that there should be another Brazilian competing for the World Drivers’ title this weekend.

Interlagos is situated on the southern edge of Sao Paolo in this natural bowl that means the circuit has a lot of inclines and declines. What always amazes me when I come here is how close the houses are to the circuit – most of the track races on the Formula One calendar are now built far from habited areas. It really spreads the carnival feeling from the city to the race track, not that the end-of-season party needs any spicing up!

The circuit itself is another great one – the most noticeable difference between most of the circuits and Interlagos is its orientation. The Sao Paolo track follows an anti-clockwise direction that means the physical demands placed upon the drivers are completely different. The drivers’ necks have to be very strong to cope with the extreme g-forces in a Formula One car, but in Brazil, their necks are forced in the opposite direction to most of the other circuits.

So for the last time in the 2008 Formula One season, we are here in the Shell Track Lab to give Ferrari an indication of how Shell V-Power fuel and Shell Helix Ultra motor oil are affecting the internal conditions of the engine. We will be carrying out over 40 tests this weekend to ensure that Ferrari has the most accurate and up-to-date information to give them the best chance in the deciding race of the season. It will be a busy and intense weekend for sure, but we are all very much looking forward to it.

I hope you have enjoyed a fantastic season with us. Over the next few months, as well as preparing for next season, we will as always be working on making sure that we continue to transfer all the information we get from Scuderia Ferrari to help develop our products for everyday customers.

So, until next season it’s goodbye for now,
    Mark

    Lewis you beauty Laughing

    2008-11-02 12:11:37.0

It was a bit touch and go with the tyre change in the last 5 laps.  Turned out ok though so I'm in agreement with you Heller.  Well done Lewis!

    2008-11-02 12:45:52.0

Yes, it was a good result Arthur. I expect the old bloke from brissie to post later. He will, no doubt, have a wriggle, about how the constructors championship is what it is all about, but we both know that the general world population doesn't give a flying f*ck about that...all they want to know is WHO IS THE WORLD CHAMPION F1 DRIVER...

All the best to Lewis Hamilton. I hope his Pussycat Doll is keeping him deservedly warm right now Laughing

I think from now on he should be referred to as 'King' Lewis. Laughing

Kinda surreal, given that he's only been in the sport 2 years, yet it feel like it's about time.

I kinda like how it happened - both Massa and Lewis won something last night!

Oh wow.... I just realised McLaren actually have a Driver's Championship to their name!

To think 2-4 years ago, there wasn't a chance in hell it would happen. Good effort by the team to get where they are now.

Woohoo, congratulations on winning the Brazil GP, Filipe..Laughing

Congratulations also go to Ferrari on winning the WCC..(AGAIN)Smile

Shame on Timo Glock for gifting the WDC to Shamilton.Frown (Timo's assured of a McCheats drive next year).

Yes, of course he was...tip-toeing.....we all saw that..Yell

Actually... I didn't. I fell asleep, only to regain some consciousness to hear what had happen and doze off again.

Can't wait to get home and watch the whole thing again

    2008-11-02 21:35:39.0

It was a good race, spoiled in part by rain delays and safety cars..

I hate wet races, no matter who wins them, as it doesn't allow the cars and drivers to perform to their full potential..

I thought Mrs Dent was being a tad bitchy when she talked about Hamiltons good looking lady being a "pussycat doll".  Not wanting to court any more angst from her I just ignored it.  Then Heller mentions it and I'm thinking huh, what's with this.  So, one Google session later puts me right.

I posted that just so that Dek could see that even people like me are sometimes miles behind...

    2008-11-03 03:05:45.0

Wow! You never fail to surprise me Mr Dent....

Even I knew who that was:P

    2008-11-03 03:09:20.0

    Surprised

    2008-11-03 04:01:36.0

By the way, congratulations go to Kimi Raikkonen for gaining third place in the WDC, in spite of having a very poor season.... (Sorry Kimi, but it looks like Deezee has deserted you)Frown

Ferrari in 2008, won the WCC easily, were robbed of the WDC by 1 point and in the final race came in 2nd and 3rd..

I realise that a certain bitter, decrepit, old, grey haired hippy, from the back blocks of the Nambour/Gympie area will continue to bitch and whine about Ferrari, but that doesn't alter the fact that they are the most succesful team in the history of F1. (they won their first championship in 1951)

    2008-11-03 19:28:54.0

    Dek will never desert Kimi!!:O

He'll win next year, you'll see!

    2008-11-03 21:09:59.0

    Great to hear it....Laughing

I certainly hope he wins next year....Wink

    2008-11-03 21:31:45.0

He'd better... My ending support needs some reaffirmation:P

    2008-11-03 21:42:32.0

Next year will be a whole new ball game with everyone using the Kinetic Energy Recovery System (or KERS)..

This will (I believe) dramitically alter the handling characteristics of the cars, especially braking and acceleration (after deceleration)...

I guess that is why Kimi has planned  such a marked increase in testing this off season..

    2008-11-03 21:50:23.0

I AM SO SICK of the constantly changing rules... EVERY year they come up with something new.

    BLEH

    2008-11-03 21:51:05.0

Speaking of the whole Glock/Massa thing, I just read this on f1technical.net and I think it really shows Massa's character:

Despite being heartbroken over the loss of the championship crown, Felipe Massa turned his thoughts to the well-being of Timo Glock and the Toyota team members. Lewis Hamilton became champion after passing Glock in the final turn of the race. Reason enough for the immense crowd of Brazilian Massa fans to turn against the German.Massa, who was afraid that some of his supporters might turn their frustration and anger on members of the Toyota team, sent his younger brother to the Toyota garage to advise the team members to change their uniforms before leaving the circuit. Members of the Toyota team took the warning very serious and returned to their hotel or the airport wearing spare uniforms of Renault and Ferrari and other clothing they could find.

Kinda sums up his thoughts and emotions and just how worried Glock probably was ..

    2008-11-03 22:07:39.0

    Sheesh... really?

Well, see, proof enough it wasn't done on purpose:)

    2008-11-03 22:23:14.0

    Huh???Surprised

It proves that Massa didn't want anyone harmed because of the result of a motor race...

I secretly don't believe Glock did it on purpose, but I will never admit it..

    White text in this post...Wink

    2008-11-03 22:34:53.0

Ferrari robbed? Best car combined with shambolic pit work (which they got away with once), terrible driver errors (look out for that wall Kimi!) and a gift of a result in Belgium does not in anyones mind equate to 'robbed'. Kimi should've won by a mile last year and either he or Massa should've repeated the trick this year. Piss poor performance, not a robbery, imo.
