SealegsTM is a revolutionary, patent-pending concept in the power boat market.
Sealegs has been specifically designed and developed to take all the hassle out of the boat launching and retrieval process.
The
Sealegs system consists of motorised, retractable and steerable wheels
which are fitted to specially designed 5.6m boats to give users a fully
integrated, turn-key package.
The Sealegs system works by having
powerful motorised wheels which give a user variable speed of 0-10KPH
(forward and reverse) powered by an on-board 16hp Honda driven
hydraulic power-pack.
A Sealegs boat can be driven from a
storage location, down a boat ramp or beach and into the water - all
with the occupants staying in the boat and remaining completely dry!.
Once in the water, the Sealegs wheels are easily retracted into the
"UP" position and are completely out of the water. The boat is then
driven and used as normal. When approaching land, the Sealegs wheels
are lowered into the "DOWN" position whilst still moving in the water.
It
is then simply a matter of trolling towards the beach and the Sealegs
powerful motorised wheels touch the bottom and drive the boat up onto
land. The occupants can then disembark, totally dry and safe.
The Sealegs system utilises all submersible components and is Salt Water ready.

How does it drive on land?
Sealegs is driven hydraulically by an air-cooled motor under the seat.
The air-cooled motor is a 16hp Honda, 2 cylinder, 4 stroke which uses
the same petrol as the outboard.
How fast does it go?
10kph on the land, and 30-35 knots on the water. The wheel motors are low speed, high torque.
How steep a gradient will it climb?
One in four gradient.
What surfaces can it drive over?
As a general rule Sealegs will operate over terrain where you can launch a 5.5m trailer boat using a car.
How much do they weigh?
D-Tube = 1,100kgs and the RIB = 890kgs
(with outboard)
What is the height with the windscreen folded down?
1.94m (6' 3").
Where are they made?
Auckland, New Zealand
Do you have to register it?
Each country is different but in general you cannot register Sealegs for use on busy public roads.
Do the wheels cause much drag?
No - all the wheels lift up and retract above the water line.
Can you tow it?
No - you can get a drive on drive off trailer for towing it long
distances. There is also a “free wheel valve” option which enables the
boat to be pushed or towed to at low speed for very short distances on
it's wheels.
Does it come with the outboard?
Yes – a 90hp 2-Stroke Yamaha is standard there is an upgrade to the 90hp Evinrude E- TEC or the 115hp Evinrude E- TEC.
Why should I upgrade to the Evinrude and what’s the difference between it and the Yamaha?
The Yamaha is a carbureted 2 Stroke, the Evinrude is a Direct inject 2
Stroke which meets the latest emission standards. The Evinrude is
quieter, needs less service and has better fuel and oil efficiency.

Can I put a bigger outboard on it?
The factory has imposed a 150kg weight restriction to outboards due to
the extra weight of the Sealegs system. This limit makes the best
choice outboard a 90hp Yamaha or 90hp Evinrude E-TEC. There will be a
130HP Evinrude option available early 2006.
Where is the petrol tank, and how much does it hold?
The fuel tank is under the floor and has a capacity of 80 litres, which is about 3-4 toke tanks.
Do they come any bigger or smaller?
No they don’t. At the moment there is a Rigid Hull Inflatable and an
Aluminum D-Tube which are both 5.6M (18ft) and based on the same hull
design. They cannot be built smaller due to the size and weight of the
hydraulic equipment required to make the amphibian perform in various
conditions
Where can I buy one?
Sealegs has authorized agent in the United Kingdom, France, Australia,
South Korea and Malaysia . All other enquiries should be directed to
the New Zealand Office.
Can I retro fit the system onto an existing boat?
No - With the two marinised hydraulic motors, three custom marine lift
cylinders, custom front wheel steering cylinder, front and rear alloy
legs/bushes/brackets, hydraulic tank, filters, hydraulic transmission
pump and remote hydraulic joystick, hydraulic manifold block with
valves, solenoids, flow divider, control electrics, tandem hydraulic
gear pump, 16hp Honda engine, throttle/choke control, cable, bell
housing, torque coupler, inboard engine bed and engine box, custom
stainless steel hubs, alloy rims and ATV tyres plus all the hydraulic
hoses and stainless steel fittings it makes it nearly impossible to
retrofit. This also explains part of the extra cost of Sealegs
amphibious boats.

Everyone needs one of these!
I might need two. One for the local harbour and one for my summer holiday!
Why stop at one. Buy 3.
I want a turbocharged one![]()
pretty wild.... does it slow the boat down?
You can also take it to the office.
What happened to Hovercrafts? Did they not quite make it?
Much better than these hangsdown
*handsdown*
Very noisy. Little ground clearance. Tendency to veer all over the place when on land.
it makes the boat look really ugly though
