I've just started playing this, it rocks. Rocks hard and rocks long.
Anyone else playing?
I am my good man. It is a game that indeed Rocks.
yay, I'm not the only one on Tangler playing ![]()
So what class(es) do you play? I tend to go for soldier, mechanic or demoman depending on what the situation calls for. Sometimes heavy, sometimes pyro, but not as often.
Have tried playing spy but I'm not very good at it... always getting busted. Sniping isn't really my style, and also not that good at it. I haven't played scout or medic much but I don't really want to - not enough power behind 'em
Depends on how I feel. I go Engineer when nobody else is. I'm an excellent medic but since I play 2Fort most these days I don't really need to use him. Soldier I used a lot til I used Demoman who is far better and is my preferred class. Sniper is fun but I'm above average. Scout I'm really good at and there's nothing better than killing someone with the bat at but don't play as often anymore unless it's a rush for the Intel/Caps. Heavy, Spy and Pyro I stay away from.
I've always been more of a team player rather than going for the high kill count so I tend to switch a few times. What do you play it on?
What server? I just pick one out of the list that has people, but isn't full and has a low ping.
I only just started playing so I haven't really gotten to like any particular server (I have a couple of friends who play, I'll probably end up on the server they play most.. if I ever catch them online at the same time as me so I can grab the server details - trying to find a specific one out of the list is near impossible
So... it's been a while and Metallica's post in the CoD4 topic reminded me this was here.
My class preferences have shifted - I now play mechanic, soldier, heavy or medic most often (roughly in that order)
Gotten better at playing spy.. now don't like demoman.. pyro is my "run in, attack hard, die fast" class ![]()
Still no good at sniping.. I only really played sniper long enough to get the achievement for 25 headshots.
+1, TF2 is really awesome.
I play soldier, scout, and demo here, but I will play as any other class as needed or if I feel like it, and I'm decent with all of them except for heavy, who's just too darn slow for me.
Hehe.. my class preferences have changed once again since my last post.
Mostly Engineer/Demoman now. If I'm on the attack and demo isn't suitable for whatever reason then soldier normally, sometimes heavy just for the hell of it. Still make a decent medic but don't play it so often. Pyro's always fun for shock-troops (or defending Dustbowl, especially stage 2/3... although demoman also works great there)
Can't snipe, can't scout effectively (sometimes able to ninja the intel on CTF matches, but no good at attacking with him), rarely go spy (sometimes spy, but not often)
TF2 is defiantly a great game!
I'm not that good at it yet, but the classes that i do play mostly are medic/spy/soldier, in that order!![]()
I just really want to become a good spy, that would be awesome! Happy playing!
Wow, I really do change my class choice every time someone posts in this thread.
I got better at spying
Now it's climbed up to my 3rd most played, after Demoman and Engineer. Since the update Pyros have felt somewhat more powerful, so they get more play-time, but that's about it... I only really play other classes when I have a specific objective in mind that can best be accomplished by that class (intel-nabbing as Scout, sentry destruction in certain circumstances as Soldier/Sniper, that kind of thing)
Pyro is kind of my "I'm bored of other classes, let's have some fun with fire" class, or the one I play when I feel like having it easier for a while - it's a less complicated class...
yeah, I've hardly played any other class apart from Medic, Spy, Soldier and Scout. My lowest play time i think is like 13 minutes on Heavy.![]()
Though with this huge update coming out next week i may play him a bit more. What is your favourite map? I'm fairly new so I don't really know them too well. My highest play time is 9 hours with medic, i really want to unlock some of his weapons!! Right now i've gotten 15 achievements for him, i just need one more to get the second unlock!!
Hope too see some of you in game!
Heh, my highest playtime is 66 hours as demo followed closely by 53 as engi (used to be on top) then something of a step down to 24 hours as spy.
I hardly ever play sniper, but I've "hardly ever" played him for 5 hours, so... I guess I've played sniper more than I reckoned.
Pulled off one impressive headshot yesterday - it was a 2v2 match (everyone else left) and the other pair were a heavy/medic and they were guarding the main exit from Dustbowl. I snuck around to the other exit and managed to headshot the heavy first try... it was quite epic.
Favourite maps would be 2fort and Dustbowl. Gravelpit is also cool but not many of the servers I play seem to have that in the rotation... I should really find some more servers I guess. The other maps in the standard pack are all good (Well, Granary, Hydro) not such a fan of Badlands... it came out after I'd gotten used to playing the other maps and I never really got used to it. I can never be bothered to wait for custom maps to download, so no comment on those.
Oh, and Well comes in both CP and CTF modes, but is only worth playing in CP. It was designed as a CP map then later a CTF mode created, and it shows. Really not that great for CTF.
Heavy update should be fun, every update you'll find half of every team is the updated class - all trying to get achievements... this will be particularly entertaining for Heavy since it's actually a hard class to play well.
Bunch of noob heavies running around with their big backs and not looking behind them... I'm going to have a field day as Spy.

hahaha, yeah very true, should be fun.![]()
My most memorable thing done in my short time of playing would be in 2fort as a spy on the balcony part where snipers stand around, i got about 5 backstabs in a row. I'm sure a lot of people have done that, but when i did it i was pumped and it was the first big thing i did with the spy!
Luckily for my sake the other team wasn't really protecting their base too well so i was just able to disguise in with no sentry blocking my path!
I find 2fort pretty hard as a spy when they guard their base well.
I watched this tutorial on spy techniques. Gave me some good ideas, you may of seen it but if you haven't, here you go.
Its part one of three. It shows some good stuff!!
And I, as a want to be spy found it very helpful.![]()
Ahh, OMFGninja... the god of spies.
Yup, already seen it. Also subscribed to his RSS feed ![]()
I love spying on 2fort... it's got all kinds of little places to tuck yourself away and hide. Plus the sniper deck can be a nice stabfest... as can the bridge if you get onto the back of a group and stab your way through them.
Yeah, one of the best!
I find 2fort pretty difficult, but then again, i don't think i have played spy much on it. I'll have to try again. If there is a bunch of sentries above the outdoor stairs, near the spawn, i find it pretty hard to get past. Especially as soon as your there, everyone spy checks you.![]()
A good challenge though, i'll have to give it a go.
If the upper floor is really sentried out, you can always skulk in the lower rooms to charge your cloak and use that to get past, then duck into either of the stairways (depending on which way you go) to uncloak.
That or be really ballsy about it and just ignore their spychecking as if you're not noticing it. Some of the time they'll just shoot you once or twice then leave you alone if you don't react... doesn't always work though, engis tend to be paranoid gits (and from playing engi, I know they have to be - otherwise spies get them)
Another favoured route of mine, that might help with getting past that room, is to go out the battlements cloaked and immediately drop down to the water, uncloak as soon as you're out of sight and make your way up through the sewer entrance. Short period of cloak just before you come through the door into the main corridor, uncloak in the side corridor that leads to the yard. You should have enough charge left to get past the defences upstairs (maybe after a short wait in the corridor).
Cheers for the tips! I played some 2fort earlier as spy before reading this. Lets just say i didn't go to well.![]()
I'll have to try some more now using some of your methods!
The ignoring spychecks one can be very effective, though like I say... less so when it comes to engis, they're more paranoid and typically don't have some other place that they're in a hurry to get to - they can just sit on top of their dispenser and riddle you with bullets to their heart's content.
One time I came round a corner into a small group (heavy + med and some others) the heavy fritzed me with minigun fire and I just stood and stared at him like I was saying "yeah, what do you want?" (like you would if it was your own team spychecking you). He decided I was no threat, the medic healed me a few seconds later, and bingo I was an accepted member of the group.
Hung back a bit when the group moved off (this was in the sewers of 2fort) and they tasted my knife shortly after.
That said, it's totally ineffective against pyros (the flames are somewhat noticeable) medics with the blutsauger (the +3 health they get with each hit is a giveaway) and with demos/soldiers you can die quite easily with an average spycheck. Snipers are also suspicious bastards when it comes to spychecks, they have to be. Any hint of suspicion on their part and they'll empty a clip or 2 into you or hack you down with the machete. Best just to carry on running (or hide) if you can't stab them straight away.
Nice job on that heavy+medic combo!
What do you think of this recent update? I'm still yet to really try any of the new maps but i played a bit of arena mode and it was pretty intense.
I went a bit better on 2fort, i need to practice jumping on the side of the bridge so i can dodge others while cloaked, then uncloak from behind and try to take them.
Update's pretty cool. As expected there's a whole bunch of heavies to knife ![]()
Got myself 6 achievements from the new pack, not enough for sandviches yet though ![]()
I tend to just duck and dodge past folks on the bridge of 2fort - most people run in straight lines, so I just chicane around them. If there's 2 running next to each other... turn around and run away and have another go later, or run to the side of the building as they go through the door then follow in behind them, or drop down into the water.
I try not to uncloak on the bridge - too easy for snipers or followers to spot you and pick you off before you see them. I normally complete my run, uncloak in the front of their base, then follow them.
You raise some good points there!
I may try to get some heavy achievements, though i still need to get my medic unlocks which i've been working hard at!![]()
If you want to get some cooperatively (aka achievement whoring
) then I'm not above a little farming ![]()
The medic ones tend to require a third person to help (a medic, a heal target and a victim) but some of them can be got with just 2 people. And there's a whole pile of Heavy ones can be done with 2 people, enough to get up to Milestone 2 I reckon (the rest need 3, or in rare cases 4 people working together to fake it)
Yeah i may have to try that![]()
What's your steam name? I'll add you to my friends list
Or you can add me... on Steam I'm "man-man" (Superman's underachieving cousin
)
I tried to add you but it was unable to find you.
I'm "Octarvarium"
Good Dream Theater song!![]()
