I've been watching mick (sitting next to me) on his mac using a cool little tool called quicksilver. Basically it lets you launch/find anything using the keyboard only. Well I tracked down a PC equivelant. AppRocket.
Very nice...
Why would I want this? Would one have to remember all sorts of shortcuts for all the 'launches'?
you just type "firefox" or "myschedule"
or a song name
or a bookmark
OOOOOOOOOoooooooooo..... That sounds terrific!
Quicksilver rocks. I've hooked my delicious links into it as well. Single point of access to so many things.
yeah yeah
we know
I agree aj, I use it all the time on our mac dev machine
love quicksiler
Next to TextMate it might be the best Mac app out there.
I believe you will be able to use a similar tool in Vista. Not sure how it will compare to Quicksilver
you can use approcket now
on xp
I am running Vista right now and I haven't really seen a feature like quicksilver. Are you talking about the Search, or something you heard about? You can use the search much like Quicksilver, I assume that's what you're saying.
There's some more quicksilve apps for the pc here .
Actually if you like command line check out the YubNub extension for firefox. Gives you command line access to a thousand or so services (amazon, wikipedia, google, flickr) search facilities.
Sorry, that link is actually supposed to be THIS .
I installed Launchy after hearing about it from Lifehacker a few days ago, and so far I really like it. It took a few days to "train" it to regognise FireFox when I start typing fire, but now It's working great. Just wish I could program in a few commands.
I installed vista recently.... covers this perfectly. As good as quicksilver I reckon.
Launchy is definitely worth it for Windows machines. I think it's fantastic!
Does anyone know of anything for Windows that is able to perform the more advanced functions of quiksilver? (Appending text, accessing program menus, etc.)
Check 43 Folders for info on the more advanced features.
Launchy is great!!!
looks great
I want it for PC
I use Launchy, but there is also Keybreeze, (freeware), and Dash (payware)
I'm using MCL right now - the perfect mix for me. Easy and powerful at the same time. I only wish I was nerdy enough to create my own .DLL-file-extensions to it...
