Canada has ousted Australia as the world's friendliest nation and - to rub it in - China has knocked us out of the top 10 index that rates a nation's brand name value.
The Anholt Nations Brand Index (NBI) poll has found Canadians have overtaken Australians as the world's friendliest people, after interviewing 25,000 people in 35 developed and developing countries.
Australians are friendly - and I'll fight anyone who says otherwise!
The canadians just thought the interviewers had pot...
hahahaha
I heard on the radio yesterday that Indians were one of the worst tourists.... If I'm not wrong, Canadians and Aussies were the best
Can anyone find me a list of the 35 countries they surveyed? I will be super nice to them from now on (the rest can go get F#$%^!)
HAHAHAHA
Excellent theory Jake!
Let's all vote for BC Bud!
Who is B.C Bud?
not who ... what
Ok, what is B.C?
BC Bud is a generic term for several varieties of potent cannibis grown in British Columbia... The term has almost become a brand name, especially in California, Oregon and Washington, wnere according to US drug enforcement officials most of the province's cannabis is exported.
Although not officially part of our agriculture exports, some estimate the value of the cash crop to be in excess of $6 billion annually...
In fact British Columbia is increasingly known for the premium quality of its marijuana.....usually around 27.5% THC ± 2% (this is quite a remarkable standard, especially when considered that it is across a large number of underground/illegal vendors ! This fact has lead to the study of this community by main stream crop growers who want to increase standards/diferentiation of their cash crops in order to grow export markets!)
Myself... I wouldn't know about this of course... its all just "book knowledge"
OHHHHHHhhhhhhhhhhhhh
So I guess that makes British Columbians the worlds friendliest people?
(it seems that no matter how "web 2.0"you make a forum site, you just cant stop threads getting hijacked
)
That's the beauty of user-generated content!
when you find a way to prevent people getting distracted and thinking at at tangent to the flow of conversation, it will be possible to keep everyone on topic, until then... nah
standing behind everyone with a wacking stick to keep them on track does pose some logistical problems in the world of the interweb..
Excuse me... but I put some credence in the Group Name here... unlike specific Groups this one is specifically called General Conversation - conversation from the Latin conversari to associate with, frequentative of convertere to turn around and General - Not limited in scope, area, or application.
It seems to me that a response to a tongue in cheek jab, with another tongue in cheek jab is quite within the scope of the topic... then a question was raised of a matter of fact.... and off goes the conversation in that direction ...that is, this is a not a limited scope, area or application.... protesting that one can not abide or handle that level of complexity would seem to be the behavior that is need of a quick wack to the side of the head ...
I can see a bird outside the window
Vulture?
We only have friendly birds in BC.
One of them stork like birds
I think they're called ibis?
The only Ibis I know in Aus is the Ibis Hotel
hehehehe good thing no one around me is actually physically in the office!
BTW, I'm can't see that pic....
Hmmm that's interesting as I put the link in because for some reason the image wouldn't show when I inserted it directly.
the picture is of the beast taken at Darling Harbour, Sydney, Australia. Photograph by Greg O'Beirne,(29th January 2006, 2.46 pm.)
ahhhh
heres the link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:AustralianWhiteIbis_gobeirne.jpg
Yeah, that's what I'm seeing out the window....
Now why won't that link embed properly?
Sigh....
I dunno
they are ugly man...
almost reptillian heads....
Who can see that? ^^
Just Like I see it If I call it up in non Tangler tab... strange... I wonder if I could have mangled the link myself ... I don't see how
ok somehow on the copy and paste the characters #file were appended by the source to the URL ... Once I get rid of them it works... but didn't go back and change it above... no need for the picture twice.
Ah... cool..... all is well in dek's world then
Just watch out for the stick.....
na na na
You can't get me!!
My enforcer is bringing the stick. Here he is:
HAHAHAHAH
So cute
I reckon we can blame this on Howard. Our reputation overseas is not great anymore. Children overboard, the Iraq War, our silence on Aboriginal reconciliation.... all these things made the news overseas and the publicity wasn't good....
Yes.
Thanks for the latin lesson Bricoleur
it's one of those 'confluence of reference' days....
I had this conversation, drove out in one direction, saw the hotel Ibis, 1/2 an hour later, driving in another area, see another hotel Ibis, come back to the office, back to the flock of Ibis outside the window, and now back in here
re latin:
I don't suppose this counts as being bilingual for the point of view of diminishing liklihood of altzeimers as I haven't had much occasion to use it since taking it in High School (I was so tonque tied I ran from the classes that were based on the spoken rather than the written word so that eliminated the French, Spanish, and German that were offered at high school....) now about all my Latin is good for is obscure roots of some English words and horrible propensity its given me to speak and write formal tracks in the passive (or worse pluperfect passive) tense.
re Ibis Hotel:
My last trip to Sydney I was staying at one of those two... either one close to your office dek?
One is close to office, one is slighty less close to home
off to goggle to see which one it would have been that I stayed at
I guess altzeimer's has set in
it was Ibis in Wellington NZ and Mecure in Sydney that I stayed in Last trip
hahahahaha oops...![]()
I like the Mercure.... organised a DnD there once
I also have had an Ibis moment a few days ago!
We have an Ibis Hotel nearby. It's on a main road in the burbs of Thornleigh. The other night I was out with some mums and we were laughing about those very, very bad days where you just want to walk away from all your responsibilites. Two of us (I was one) confessed to almost walking out the door with an overnight bag and staying at the grey and dull Ibis in Thornleigh. For the ... bath, peace and quiet, movies on demand and a mini bar. BLISS!
And less than a $100 for the privelege.![]()
hmmmm ibis - the bird and the hotels - are everywhere!
Isn't that one noisy there on Pennant Hills Road? Still it's close to my favourite store, Bunnings.
lol
Actually, the best Bunnings is the one at Tuggerah. It's bigger than the one in Thornleigh. That one is small and has a poor selection of stuff, but it's pretty close to my house.
that one is 5mins from my house...
actually more like 3 mins
That's keen - going from Hornsby to Tuggerah!
Yeah, just don't buy groceries up there. The woolies really sucks compared to Hornsby. Unless you're after 'Roo meat. Heaps of Roo stuff, including my favourite, "Kanga Banga's". Not!
As Homer might say "Mmmmmmm....Coat, of, Arms"
ROFL
"ROFL" !?
My god you don't eat Mr Harris too, do you?
BTW You should use that spellchecker we discussed earlier
Ahem,.... ROFL is accepted bad spelling![]()
A restaurant used to serve a dish called "Coat of Arms" with 'Roo and Emu meat. Yum! Would go well with a nice Shiraz/Cab.
Surely It should have included Swan, Magpie and 2 varieties of Lion meat. Mmmmmm...a real selection.
Swan meat?!!!
that's a new one!
@ john robie,
ROFL - roll over floor laughing
lol
>aman
As well as the kangaroo and the emu there are on the coat of arms two lions (one red one gold ) a magpie and a swan.
Swan meat used to eaten, regularly.
Why are you laughing at Mr Harris?
(I know what ROFL means...
)
I wonder what lion tastes like....
I've had buffalo and ostritch burgers
tasted kinda like beef and chicken respectively but the meat was much denser + heavier seeming
Were they buffalo and ostrich mixed together? Sounds interesting. I've had both. Buffalo was unremarkable, the Ostrich was deeply red, like a stringly, red piece of beef. Good flavour, but not like chicken at all.
I've had crocodile as well. Cajun style at a pub in Cooktown. It was really good.
They were separate, 2 different burgers (not steak/chops or whatever, would have affected the texture maybe)
and its quite possible that I'm mis-remembering the ostritch, it was a while ago and my memory of tastes isn't always so awesome
I've had ostrich too SK. That's how I remember it. Very tasty indeed. Mine was tender, juicy and beef-like in taste.
I've had Camel, at a restraunt in Darlinghurst. (forget the name) It was sliced very thin, but still a little chewy (chewy is the wrong word)
re the coat of arms, If I remember correctly, it was a Pizza called "The Coat of Arms" from a place in Balmain??????? but yeah it had emu & kangaroo.
Kangaroo is delicious, full of flavour, but mus tbe eaten rare, it gets tuff if overcooked.
If your a "Well Done" steak person, kangaroo is not for you.
The Kangaroo sausages & mince aren't to my liking....... a little too Gamey in a bitter/sour kind of way.
Ialthough I prefered My Ibis on a skewer straddled by a couple of pidgeons. and cooked over a burning garbage bin.![]()
There also used to be a Pizza place on William Street called the Red Centre that had a Pizza with 'Roo proscuito. Yummy.
My gran went to australia a while back, she brought me back some chocolate things called "roo poo" - little balls of almonds and honey covered in chocolate
YUM.![]()
Sending ...
