Tomorrow will be the usual cooking, cleaning, laundry, groceries and F1, so that I can start the week nicely sleep deprived

    2007-07-20 20:01:25.0

Lack of coffee on the weekend can give all kinds of symptoms... perhaps even looking like  sleep deprivation

    2007-07-20 20:35:41.0

What time does the socceroos kick off again?

    2007-07-20 20:38:24.0

    2007-07-22 18:10:09.0

This weekend I am getting 4 new pairs of shoes.

    2007-07-23 17:55:36.0

    For 4 pairs of feet?

    or one?

    Or two axles?

    2007-07-23 18:09:25.0

Yes. Two pairs per axle. Ten points for you.

    2007-07-23 18:13:38.0

I love shoes you should get me a pair as well:)

    2007-07-23 18:16:42.0

Drum brakes or disc?  Changing shoes on drums is a hassle.  Fortunately I only have two cars with drums now, rest are disc.

    2007-07-23 18:17:56.0

    I'm good.....:P

Which would you prefer Kaz, slicks or something else?

    2007-07-23 18:18:23.0

    hehehe

    2007-07-23 18:18:25.0

Drums front and rear. The handbrake is also a drum around the tailshaft.

    2007-07-23 18:20:15.0

    slicks does me good haha

    2007-07-23 18:20:17.0

Changing shoes on drums is a hassle.

Agree but Land Rover drums are not too bad to work with.

    2007-07-23 18:21:36.0

Yeah, I have a set of special tools for the reatining springs and an adjustment spoon.  The self-adjusters on my 1963 chevy don't work, so I have to adjust them manually.  Fortunately my Dad taught me how to do this properly.  Doubt most folks have ever had to manually adjust drum brakes anymore.

    2007-07-23 18:23:51.0

Land Rover brakes are manual adjust.

    2007-07-23 18:25:24.0

There is some comfort with manual adjusters in knowing they have been adjusted when you adjust them and not relying on self adjusters to do the adjusting for you.

    2007-07-23 18:26:26.0

Yeah, that's true.  Sometimes when the adjusters do work they don't adjust evenly and the car pulls to the right or left when stopping.  That's always exciting if your're stopping from 100KM/H or so.  Doing the 'Tenessee waltz' is not fun in traffic.:P

    2007-07-23 18:31:23.0

Tenessee waltz. Ha. I like that, and have performed one once at 100km/h when only 3 (I suspect) of the 4 drums locked. It was the rear right that failed. A real brown trouser moment.

    2007-07-23 18:37:52.0

Yeah.  My daily driver was a 1963 Chevy Nova (pics on Tangler/cars/classics) for many years, and I got quite used to poor braking performance.  I never tailgate, even in modern cars, as I learned to drive in this car.  When I'm back in california next month I'm gonna drive it down to southern cal for a few days as I needs a run.  It's all original ex paint colour and I've owned it since 1978, so that's 29 years. Would love to find a clean EH over here to go with it, as they're kinda the same thing.  Actally, I've always wondered if the fuel injection on the last iteration of Holden's red motor would fit an american 6.  An interesting proposition.....

    2007-07-23 18:45:52.0

I would sooooo love a ride in your car

    2007-07-23 18:49:51.0

Nice EH's are hard to find now. Although a tad older, you might have more luck searching out an EJ. Personally I think the HR was the pick of them.

    2007-07-23 18:56:36.0

    2007-07-23 18:59:10.0

    2007-07-23 19:00:04.0

    Nice. Very Nice.

    2007-07-23 19:01:28.0

    That's my beast.

I prefer the backend on the EH vs. the EJ.  An EH ute would be great.

    2007-07-23 19:01:47.0

Not sure what they are trying to demonstrate here but my experience with the HR's 161 and 186 red motors are that you would want to let it cool down for a good half hour before attempting this manouvre ...

    2007-07-23 19:11:08.0

Same with my 194 in the nova!

    2007-07-23 19:16:45.0

... or at least one would need better insulation that that offered by the Johhny-pop-out suits.

    2007-07-23 19:21:26.0

oh nice car so vintage of you!

    2007-07-24 01:41:29.0

You can see the family resemblance in the Holden and the Chevrolet.  Both GM products from the same era.  I've always wanted one of the South African Novas that were built RHD, the only place where that was done so they're quite rare.  I'd have to keep it in Australia, though as I'd kill myself with an RHD car in the US, having driven so much over here.

    2007-07-24 17:59:13.0

Now that it is the end of Weds I think it is offically acceptable to start looking towards the weekend againg, so what are peoples plans for this coming weekend?

I am going to a Roosters game and have a party at my flat!  Should be fun:)

    2007-07-25 00:53:15.0

I'll be moping around here probably....

Oh, and I might go watch Transformers.... again:P

    2007-07-25 01:34:54.0

Hey its only Tuesday here.... I have a lot of  thinking with my eyes closed before I get around to worrying about the Revolutionary changes I will wrought this weekend.

    2007-07-25 01:36:32.0

Ok so i looked at the clock ... time flies when you're having fun.. 20 to 2 counts as Wed. I guess....

    2007-07-25 01:37:07.0

    Yup, that counts!

So tell us abt em revolutionary changesXP

    2007-07-25 01:38:50.0

Ahhh you'll have to read Heinlein's "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress" to understand why I can't tell you that.

    2007-07-25 01:40:52.0

    2007-07-25 01:41:59.0

I always thought the moon would be male

    2007-07-25 01:42:46.0

Of course last weekend I planned the same thing, but forgot what it was by the time the weekend arrived.

    2007-07-25 01:42:52.0

If I was forced to assign it a gender that is

    2007-07-25 01:43:04.0

Selene or Diana take your pick... in western based literature coming down from Greeks and Romans it was a Goddess.... I don't know about eastern traditions

    2007-07-25 01:43:49.0

Selene, the moon goddess, is known for her countless love affairs

    2007-07-25 01:45:02.0

    *thinks*

ooooooh.... it's a male!! So is the sun!

    2007-07-25 01:45:14.0

Mothers, in a lullaby, refer to the moon as 'Uncle Moon'

    2007-07-25 01:45:45.0

Whoops... I was a bit wrong about Diana turns out she represented Chastity...

Diana was the healing goddess, associated with wild animals and woodlands. She also later became a moon goddess, supplanting Luna, and was an emblem of chastity.

so a bit harsh to call her a mistress... back to Selene of the Greeks then for our legends... although we do talk about the "Man in the Moon" to describe the face we see...

    2007-07-25 01:47:52.0

Except I only ever see a wabbit

    *singing*

    I like da mooooon

    2007-07-25 01:50:43.0

Rabbit... I can't see that at all.

    2007-07-25 01:52:59.0

    this seems much more obvious:

    2007-07-25 01:54:36.0

    HAHAHAHAHAH

    2007-07-25 01:54:50.0

Funny.... the rabbit I see is right side up and facing left...

    Well, actually, not that funny

    2007-07-25 01:55:20.0

According to Ted Hughes, the moon is a balloon and the sun is a golden dragons egg or a helicopter or ball, or something...

    2007-07-25 01:55:40.0

    hahahaha

    Who's Ted Hughes?

    2007-07-25 02:00:50.0

Before the moon got so visual, there were some car pics. Anyone like to comment on this one?

    2007-07-25 06:10:47.0

    I WANT ONE!

    2007-07-25 06:12:22.0

You want what? Car or the kid(s)?

    2007-07-25 06:14:28.0

    The car of course!!!:O

    2007-07-25 06:55:07.0

    yeah car over kids anyday!

    2007-07-25 18:05:52.0

I never understand this either or compulsion.... life is a matter of "give and take"  and  "both.... and" but surely not either or when it comes to cars and kids (although one might have to  put up without the sportscar and perhaps suffer the indignity of a "bus" -  that's van - for a few years... they eventually grow up and back comes the CAR..... ahhhh life is wonderful.

    2007-07-25 21:07:40.0

You seeee.... you said it! It is either or..... first you need to give up the flashy, inconvenient car for the kids, then, when they grow up and you go get a nicer car, they'll just keep taking it off your hands
    :P

    2007-07-25 21:50:15.0

Eventually they move to the other side of the continent... then you only lose your wheels when they fly home for  a visit... well worth the trade-off...

    2007-07-25 21:55:28.0

If I do have kids, I'm gonna run a tight ship, the way my dad did - tap shoes together before getting into car, no eating in car etc etc

    kekeke

    2007-07-25 22:14:42.0

thats so funny you bring that up about kids, my bf and I were talking about how strict we would be if we had kids haha we were more talking about how they wouldn't have mobiles and computers at 10..it's scary how young kids are getting phones and pc's geez I was 16 before I got my first mobile after working for 6mnths lol

    2007-07-26 01:58:48.0

Yeah, mine ain't gonna get a phone either....

Mind you, by the time I have one (if I do) they'll be implanting the phone chip into their brains when they're born

    2007-07-26 02:12:45.0

haha yeh and they will be micro-chipped with a GPS system attached so you can keep an eye on them! which is actually a true story apparently celeb parents in Hollywood are doing it incase their precious offsprings get kidknapped...talk about invasion of privacy! and yeh I have a bif "IF" next to my thoughts of having kids in the future too lol

    2007-07-26 02:16:11.0

Yeah..... if I ever decide to, I'll go the adoption route....

Reduce cardon emissions - adopt a child

    2007-07-26 02:20:50.0

Really they micro-chip their kids like dogs??? Weird!  Oh and to bring this back to topic I would just like to say that it is offically friday so what are everyones plans??

    2007-07-26 18:49:08.0

I'm going to the Gold Coast to collect a pool table purchased on E-bay for $0.99.

Additional costs have included (but not limited to):

    • $1.25 the transaction fee;
    • $0.30 for a new indicator light fuse on the Land Rover (blew the old one when plugging the trailer wire in);
    • $0.30 for another indicator light fuse on the Land Rover;
    • $14.95 for a new 6 pin trailer connection;
    • $9.95 for 5m of 5 way trailer wire.

It is turning out to be an expensive exercise.

Needless to say the table needs a sand/polish/re-cloth but it is playable.

I intend to have a few games on it "as-is" to gain a "home ground advantage" then invite a few mugs over to play for drinks before any refurbishment begins.

    2007-07-26 20:14:05.0

wow a pool table for $0.99, still sounds like a steall with all those other expenses

    2007-07-26 20:29:50.0

He hasn't told us the fuel bill yet, or the possible ticket for an unsafe load.  If the fuse blows again he might get another ticket for no light.  He could even crash and his insurance company refuse to pay for the damage caused by a pool table smashing into someone's property...  He could end up losing his house and his familiy might desert him, just for some 99 cent pool table off ebay.

    2007-07-27 00:39:47.0

I'm still game for a game
    :P

    2007-07-27 00:51:57.0

    • about 160km trip at 25 mpg with fuel at around $1.15/L. Ha. (refer metric topic);
    • Trailer is an 8' x 5' cage to fit a 7' x 3'6" table. No problem;
    • Fuse should be OK. Trailer connection replaced and re-wired. Auto-Electrics is a Dark Science. Satan was (is) an autoelectrician;
    • I only crash expensive flimsy cars like Impreza's;
    • Insurance is for the faint hearted.

    2007-07-27 06:25:53.0

Ruskie, did you ever get that 101?  (I think I remember you talking about one)

    2007-07-27 06:48:26.0

They are rare as rocking horse shit here Arthur. Would love one though. I have managed to get hold of an 88 Series 3 (1972). Goes well apart fron the trailer plug (now fixed). I am about to bid my 2004 Forester Farewell.

    2007-07-27 06:51:39.0

I wish I needed such a vehicle.  Up till about a year ago I had a Scooby but using it for work related travel made my old bones ache a bit so I now drive a "dad racer" SAAB95 Aero which is no more economical, not so much fun but is nice and comfortable.  I have toyed with the idea of a project 4x4 and did have a chance of a Radio Bodied 101 a couple of years ago (I used to use them in the RAF) bit they are 24volt so I was put off.  It had a nice Rover 3.5 petrol and when took it for a short drive the brakes were as I remembered them - full on or off...

    2007-07-27 07:21:57.0

Something like 75% of all Landrovers ever produced since 1948 are still being used on a daily basis.

    2007-07-27 07:34:04.0

Yeah, I've heard they tend to stand on their nose when unladen and under heavy braking in the 50 mph region. I have no use for one but to scare the shit out of other road users. The series 3 does that nicely though. With respect to the spleen, I've sacrificed some ride height for comfort for want of a better word and removed two leafs from the rear springs and one from the fronts. There is a bit more body sway when cornering in top gear at around 20mph. It is also one of the rare ones here that has not had the Holden Red motor transplant. I am impressed with the 2.25 petrol 4 pot. It also has the standard Land Rover self lubricating underbody.

    2007-07-27 07:34:06.0

my to do list looks like this:

dye my hair, quit coffee and drink more water, do readings needed for uni next week, cook dinner, go shopping for new sunnies and leather jacket for bf, walk places and get exercise, have lunch catch up with good friend, drinking wine in a flat in Glebe and talking about five and the spice girls...and listening to ipods on the stereo

    2007-07-29 00:20:47.0

I've got half my week end left.. so I still have the illusion that I will revolutionize something... but on the other hand the eyelids are getting heavy.... perhaps after breakfast....

    2007-07-29 00:23:58.0

On the other hand, its back to serious startup mode in about 2 days... so have to get a fix of Tangler to sustain me over the coming droughtWink

    2007-07-29 00:25:01.0

Tangler is what's keeping me sane.

    2007-07-29 00:25:34.0

I can't believe that dekrazee1 seems to have won last post with a subterfuge

    2007-07-29 00:26:08.0

    kekeke!

    I winz!

    2007-07-29 00:30:01.0

but I gave you the idea - doesn't that count for  something?

    2007-07-29 00:30:30.0

    errrrmmm... what idea?

    2007-07-29 00:32:25.0

the idea on how to win  last post   .... or do I need to revisit the spot to remind you?

    2007-07-29 00:45:50.0

Maybe I need to revisit it.... Undecided

    2007-07-29 00:48:24.0

No ...lets just say you won...and you owe me.... I think everyone's forgotten and as long as it isn't tagged with new usage you should be ok!

    2007-07-29 00:49:19.0

I wanted to go to Target to buy Catch Phrase. It's a fun game. Maybe 2moro.

    2007-07-30 02:21:11.0

oooh.... I used to love catch phrase!!!

Except the one on TV was mind-numblingly easy

    2007-07-30 02:25:41.0

true that, what ever happened to wheel of fortune? did Deal or no deal become the new money winning show for channel 7?

    2007-07-30 03:49:47.0

Oh man those shows drive me nuts!! I really can't stand watching them especially Deal or No Deal because there is no skill in it, either you are lucky or your not.  It is so over hyped in the U.S., but it is always sad when they are up $100,000 and then lose it all.

    2007-07-30 18:02:48.0

    Going to Lollapalooza

    2007-07-31 08:05:51.0

Lollapalooza - I always wanted to go, and now I'm leaving California before it happens.

    Bummer dude.

This weekend will be sleeping and catching up on life.......

    2007-07-31 17:04:11.0

At least you'll have good weather on your return to the lucky country.  Beautiful morning here in Sydney.  Spring is in the air!

Yeah I actually broke a sweat walking to work!  Not a cloud in the sky:)

    2007-07-31 17:16:26.0

    2007-07-31 17:54:47.0

It will be rather busy in Grant Park I suspect.

    2007-07-31 17:55:41.0

Yeah last time I went it was crazy packed!

    2007-07-31 17:57:28.0

I wish it was on my to-do list for the weekend:(

    2007-07-31 20:38:54.0

it's going to be 90+ degrees and extremely humid with the best bands playing at the same times. I'll enjoy it but I know it won't be easy. I also think at my age this is the last festival for me. if Pearl Jam wasn't playing I would've skipped it. But Spoon, Interpol, Ted Leo, Ben Haper etc should be great too!

    2007-07-31 20:58:50.0

I am sooooooo jealous!! Have a fab time!

    2007-07-31 21:03:05.0

    ooooh.... Ben Harper....

    His life performances are special

    2007-07-31 21:26:33.0

    2007-07-31 21:26:42.0

my best mate of I are off to tassie for three weeks without any bookings or itinerary - just an adventure in the cool cool part of the world - driving to ballarat on Sunday.

    2007-08-01 00:00:35.0

    Sounds great!!

Those are the kinds of holidays I like

    2007-08-01 00:02:55.0

got our woolies, beanies, glovies, long johnnies, anything else I need its the first time to tassie

    2007-08-01 00:04:33.0

Any idea what the forecast is like?

    2007-08-01 00:08:08.0

latest is 0 - 12 degrees generally but no rain???  probably hanging off until next week  - we have this awful habit of breaking droughts where ever we go on hols

    2007-08-01 00:20:49.0

Come to South East Queensland NOW!

    2007-08-01 00:25:40.0

sound great but hey you cant appreciate SEQ until you get COLD  so maybe after

    2007-08-01 00:26:55.0

I could quiet easily escape to South East Queensland right about now Ruski

    2007-08-01 00:34:04.0

@Ruskie.  Other than NOW! give me another reason for me to spend a shed load of money on air-fare to go somewhere that is running out of water, potentially quite cold at this time of year and has places called Ipswich and Wivenhoe when I can go to the  "originals" in less than 30 minutes drive.

    2007-08-01 02:28:20.0

I was just there a couple of weeks ago on North Stradi Island and I loved the warmth! I was very said driving back south to Sydney in the rain..

    2007-08-01 02:33:07.0

I wish a holiday was on the agenda sometime soon

    2007-08-01 04:47:03.0

Bola - For SEQ standards this winter has been cold.

Clovar - I could escape from ... we could high five at the border.

Arthur - so I can shower for longer than 4 minutes. It takes that long alone to get the hot/cold mixture right with these new restrictive shower roses. Note also there is another water storage a little upstream from Wivenhoe called Somerset. As far as "originals" go, the best I can offer is Woolloongabba.

Kaz - Nth Stradbroke Island is a great place. Some trivia ... North and South Straddie were formed when a boat load of rum ran aground and exploded, creating two islands and the Jumpinpin bar.

    2007-08-01 08:14:03.0

Ruskie.  I wouldn't consider the Gabba as being in an inhospitable place that costs too much to get too.  If there is no water, there is always the beer they serve in the ground.  If the right teams are playing (is there any at this time of year?) then I would seriously consider.  However Mrs practical bloody Dent would point out that I can't fund a trip or afford any more time off.  I on the other hand would do my best to ignore her and say I'm away on business for a week or so.

If it's all the same to you I think I'll stick to the garden this weekend...

    2007-08-01 08:55:06.0

@ Ruski yep actually was there for a course for  my Masters of Coastal Management and did a whole project on that event.  The whole case is really interesting.

    2007-08-01 15:01:25.0

Okay for those of you on this side of the international dateline it is Thursday so time to start planning the weekend!  What is on your to do list?

Clean my Flat- especially my room

Go to the Sydney boat show

    pay rent:(

    Start writing my research paper:(

Not a very exciting weekend a head for me.

    2007-08-01 16:07:08.0

I did too much of that last weekend!

    2007-08-01 16:18:05.0

yeh Thursday is the start to plan the weekend day...hmm mine looks like this

Friday night going out with mates

    cleaning stuff

    Uni readings

lunch at a nice pub on sunday

try and finish the DaVinchi code

    2007-08-01 18:58:53.0

Wow.... you guys put a lot of planning into your weekends....

    Whatever happened to winging it?

    2007-08-01 19:04:42.0

    I'm winging it.

    2007-08-01 19:06:22.0

Except for going to Bunnings and getting a sheet of 7ft x 3ft 6 mdf. Not sure how thick yet. Probly 16mm. Anyone know what standard thicknesseses mdf comes in?

    2007-08-01 19:08:26.0

    Sorry mixing the units again.

    2007-08-01 19:09:21.0

    2133.6mm x 1066.8mm x 16mm

    2007-08-01 19:09:51.0

Doesn't mdf come in a few thicknesses?

    2007-08-01 19:18:24.0

    I know there's 6, 8, 16 and maybe a 24

    or maybe I'm really confused:-/

    2007-08-01 19:19:01.0

That looks about right. I was aware of 6 and 8 but that would be too thin. I might go for the 24 if it is available.

    2007-08-01 19:20:31.0

what are you gonna use it for?

    2007-08-01 19:27:22.0

    A pool table deck.

    2007-08-01 19:35:22.0

    @ Ruski hehehe I should've guessed;)

@fred Cool!!! I've only been to one, but I loved it! BarCamp Sydney

    2007-08-01 19:39:53.0

I missed last year, so I'm glad it worked out this time.

    2007-08-01 19:41:06.0

I bet... Well, you're in for a great weekend!

    2007-08-01 19:47:01.0

@Ruskie.  I remember seeing something on the TV about pool tables.  "The Old Yankee Workshop"  some guy called Norm does woodworking projects and he was building a pool table, mainly with MDF.  The playing base was made from 3/4" MDF with a supporting lattice of "well seasoned oak" underneath.  I think they were something like 1"x 3" and the idea of the lattice was to prevent it warping while retaining a "bounce akin to that found with Italian slate"...

    2007-08-02 03:17:29.0

@ clovar, you haven't read the DaVinchi code yet!!! Crazy and I thought I was behind on books:)

    2007-08-02 04:57:03.0

oh I know..I happen to read books at a delayed rate. My friend made me read Jane Eyre over the holiday break..gotta sayI was rather disapointed

    2007-08-02 04:57:50.0

I've not read anything beyond the complexity of a street directory or the cat in the hat for the last 5 years.

    2007-08-02 05:24:07.0

^ Actually I lie .. I read "First Overland" not long ago, a doco on the first overland trip from London to Singapore in 1955.

    2007-08-02 05:24:49.0

Arthur ... I think I have the lattice part sorted but I'm a few seasons short of well seasoned oak. A few oaks short of oak also.

    2007-08-02 05:27:02.0

Had not thought of it in terms the italian slate style bounce. Hmmm. project for the future. Cheers.

    2007-08-02 05:27:44.0

in any time you should have  something to discuss

    2007-08-02 05:47:21.0

I must admit the nearest I get to well seasoned oak is the contents of a glass.

    2007-08-02 06:11:55.0

I'm planning to keep the frame as is, put the new mdf top on, and sort out some Qld red cedar sides.

    2007-08-02 06:14:36.0

and consume a few well seasoned oaks on the rocks in the process

    2007-08-02 06:16:04.0

Have a bottle of Glenlivet that may be suitable

    2007-08-02 06:17:14.0

Sounds entirely so.  I'll bring some ice (as you have a problem with water)

    2007-08-02 06:18:37.0

Q What's the difference between a Scottish man and the Rolling Stones ... ?

    2007-08-02 06:18:45.0

    A. Rollings stones say "Hey you get off my cloud"

    2007-08-02 06:19:08.0

    Scot says "Hey McLeod, ...

    2007-08-02 06:19:30.0

Something about MacDonalds and Sheep shagging no doubt...

    2007-08-02 06:21:37.0

As a Welshman Arthur, are you often the butt of that Joke also?

    2007-08-02 06:24:42.0

Only ask because I have been subject to it given the very Welsh Surname that follows Ruski73

    2007-08-02 06:25:35.0

It has come up from time to time but it doesn't bother me. Unless I want it to that is - and they are smaller than me...

    2007-08-02 06:29:35.0

Very Welsh.  Jones, Davis, Griffiths, Evans plus a few others that I can't think of right now

    2007-08-02 06:31:44.0

    It is one of those.

    2007-08-02 06:32:36.0

Shooting an internet TV show... yay!

    2007-08-02 19:56:18.0

    cool what show?

    2007-08-02 19:56:50.0

"The Rejects"... it's a comedy about kids with LAME superpowers...:)

    2007-08-02 19:57:35.0

    cool I'll look for it!

    2007-08-02 19:58:18.0

Swim. Wear goggles and watch out for Jelly fish. Practice my Spanish. Eat and drink. Send HEAPS of emails.

    2007-08-02 20:29:28.0

General feelings abt Monday have always intrigued me.... I love Mondays!

    2007-08-05 21:26:44.0

Lollapalooza kicked my ass this weekend. Exhausted at work.

Most of it was good. Yesterday was dreadfully hot and humid. Best sets by Ben Harper, Black Keys, Spoon, The Roots, The Hold Steady, My Morning Jacket. Pearl Jam was good but the sound was off.

Could skip for the rest of my life: Regina Spektor, !!!, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Sound Tribe Sector 9. TV ON The Radio was so so.

    2007-08-06 11:33:01.0

Still so Jealous of you deadline, just to beable to see Pearl Jam live!  oh and Ben Harper rocks my world.

    2007-08-06 17:37:38.0

And Eddie came out and did Master of War with BH and the innocent criminals. It was actually better (sound quality wise) than PJ's set.

    2007-08-06 19:19:30.0

Oh my that would have been fab to see!!

    2007-08-06 19:21:52.0

    2007-08-07 18:56:45.0

    Another reason to dislike SRK....;)

    2007-08-07 18:59:51.0

    2007-08-07 19:02:25.0

    2007-08-07 19:05:59.0

so do we start over with THIS weekend?

We're taking a Lollapalooza detox weekend. Staying in, watching the second season of Weeds on DVD, organizing our closets and shopping for a crib! agh reality of impending parenthood approaching.

    2007-08-09 10:43:27.0

    That'll do.

    Thank you.

    2007-08-10 04:51:45.0

Looking forward to the weekend.  My week began in Sydney, in winter, and ending on a beautiful summer's day in california.  Gonna take the MX-5 out from cover and wake it up for a drive!

    2007-08-10 09:02:38.0

Nice one Erik. Have a good un.

    2007-08-10 11:59:52.0

My to-do list mainly consists of relaxing with the girls (and the one boy dog). It's too hot for the st bernard to stay outside, and it is too hot for anyone to be outside in my opinion, so the four dogs and I will probably watch movies, and do other things. Big house, and four dogs, we play hide and seek sometimes, and things of that nature.

    2007-08-10 12:04:01.0

That sounds like fun!  How can a St. Bernard "hide"?

    2007-08-10 12:11:12.0

She could hide, big house, lots of places to hide, but usually I will hide and they will try to find me.:) The little ones are great at it sometimes, and bad at it other times, but the Sadie (St Bernard) always manages to find me in the end:)

    2007-08-10 12:12:20.0

Finding is a core competency of St. Bernards! Smile

    2007-08-10 12:15:10.0

Yep:) All she's missing is a barrel of rum around her neck!

    2007-08-10 12:35:12.0

    Bundy's I hope!

    2007-08-10 14:51:10.0

hehehehe Sounds like so much fun!XP

    2007-08-11 01:09:08.0

    Oh phewie it's monday again!

    2007-08-12 21:09:30.0

I like Mondays. They can be full of hope of new experiences to come in the new week. Honest.Innocent

    2007-08-13 03:36:05.0

that is very optimistic of you JR and surprising

    2007-08-13 17:17:17.0

I love Mondays.... I really do. Always have. Fridays suck

    2007-08-13 17:54:15.0

For me it depends on how the with weekend went before it, this Monday wasn't too bad that is just because I work with such lovely peopeleLaughing

    2007-08-13 18:00:31.0

saturday catch up with the family...

    sunday.. GOING TO LONDON!:)

    2007-08-13 19:10:04.0

Oh London for holiday or work?

    2007-08-13 19:11:14.0

Public Holiday for Briso's tomorrow. I will be going nowhere near the RNA showgrounds.

    2007-08-13 21:07:37.0

Oh yeah?? What's the holiday for?

    2007-08-13 21:10:52.0

    The Royal National Association Show

    2007-08-13 21:14:55.0

The Ekka.(Brisbane Exhibition), or more correctly as Ruski stated above^^^^^

    2007-08-13 21:16:34.0

You get a public holiday for that??

    2007-08-13 21:43:16.0

"that is very optimistic of you JR and surprising"

@Kaz why surprising? Do I seem a pessimistic sort of soul? I can be very dark (the curse of knowledge), but I believe in the better half of mankind.

    2007-08-14 12:56:34.0

Sundays can be the most depressing day of the week. I'm sure it has a lot to do with my childhood, but I F***ing hate Sundays sometimes.

    2007-08-14 12:59:21.0

You come off a bit pessimistic JR, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt

    2007-08-14 16:02:44.0

I hate sundays too.... with a passion...

Nothing good every came out of Sundays.... except the promise of a Monday

    2007-08-14 16:54:28.0

You're not afraid of something from the song "I Don't Like Mondays" then?

    2007-08-15 00:32:43.0

What is it I'm supposed to be afraid of?

    2007-08-15 00:34:50.0

haha that is a great song but scary!

    2007-08-15 00:38:08.0

The song is based on a true incident...Bod Geldorf wrote it for the Boom Town Rats after reading about a 16 year old girl that shot and killed a few adults (including a police officer)  and a bunch of kids in a school playground across the street from her home... she showed no remorse when she was captured and when asked why she did it simply said "I don't like Mondays"

    2007-08-15 00:50:45.0

    2007-08-15 00:52:12.0

I forgot the reference to the telex machine in the song... that was part of the 'neatness'  (if thats the right word) of the song... Geldorf supposedly read the new release on a telex machine (the incident was in San Diego California)

    2007-08-15 00:55:02.0

Wow... I'd never seen young Bob Geldorf before...

Why'd they make such a sad song sound so happy?:-/

    2007-08-15 00:59:51.0

correction: I just went back and re-read the reports.... she killed two adults(including the school principle who stood between her and the kids) and injured 8 kids and the police officer - the gun had been a gift from her father. It happened in 1979 and the song was first sung at the Fox Theater in San Diego. It reached #1 on the UK charts but wasn't played by any stations in the SD area in respect to the local sensitivities about the event.

    2007-08-15 01:03:42.0

When I saw Geldorf in the video I thought "Wow, I hardly remember him being this young".... I guess it shows which side of the age divide each of is on.Wink

    2007-08-15 01:06:11.0

Her father gifted her a gun?!

    2007-08-15 01:06:27.0

    Yup

In 2005  (at her third unsuccessful parole hearing) she insisted she had been beaten and sexually abused by him (she had not claimed this at any time before, rather she had claimed at her first hearing that she hadn't shot any of the kids, rather that they must have been shot by the police and further that she was both under the influence of alcohol and on hallucinogens and the reason they hadn't been brought up as a defense was due to a conspiracy between the prosecutors and her own defense lawyer to fabricate test evidence to show she was drug free).

    2007-08-15 01:15:03.0

Wow... I'd never seen young Bob Geldof before...

    Hahaha..... Never?

Lucky you. He's mellowed I hear but in my opinion...........

The man is a C**T (personal experience).

    2007-08-15 01:19:27.0

Wow.... And they say mass shootings are a new phenomenon

    2007-08-15 01:19:34.0

Really JR, never... Only heard of him cos of the lastest Live Aid thingy... even then, I didn't pay much attention

    2007-08-15 01:20:47.0

This one one of the first major ones I think... but we had one in Canada in 1975 In Ottawa when a 18 year old student killed one and wounded five at a high school before turning the gun on himself (he had earlier raped and stabbed a 17 year old 'friend' to death)

I think we get a bigger build up in todays sensationalist reporting environment, but unfortunately they did happen a generation ago...

    2007-08-15 01:24:05.0

I had no idea.... and doesn't make anymore sense either

    2007-08-15 01:26:39.0

Re Geldorf: he  was a reporter (music) here in Vancouver for the "Georgia Straight" (an anti-establishment alternative newspaper) before returning to Ireland and his music career with the Boom Town Rats - I think he established a reputation even then as being more thansomewhat opinionated...and loud.

Re: "it doesn't make anymore sense" - right.  The simple fact is she had no reason to do it, and still shows no remorse. She's just trying to find some words that will get the parole board to let her out of her life sentence.

Evil. At its simplest, most raw form.

    2007-08-15 01:30:25.0

I don't like to believe in the concept of evil, but here I tend to agree

    2007-08-15 01:36:36.0

Re: "concept of Evil"   Sometimes labels are all we have.... since there is simply no way to make sense of something as vile as this,  to describe it we are left with the poor substitute of labeling it.  I think this is one of those cases.

    2007-08-15 01:39:37.0

On my list for the weekend: Save the World

    2007-08-15 01:40:22.0

(that's after my contribution to revolutionizing one part of it)

    2007-08-15 01:40:55.0

Yeah, once again, I agree with your assessment

And I ain't saving the world. I'm gonna curl up on my couch and wait for Monday

    2007-08-15 01:42:52.0

    @Bric

I want to respond to that: "Evil. At its simplest, most raw form." But can't quite find the words. -  I feel personally uncomfortable with the overuse of the word "EVIL".

In general: Geldof is a decent straight talking kind of guy. But he takes it to the personal level too, even unto the "Do you FUCKING know who I am?" routine, as if it will always get him what he feels is needed, as if it can always be provided.

He thinks (or at least used to) that the death of Western Soldiers is a reasonable price to pay.

Trading one death for another is not a reasonable price in my opinion.

This is the man who announced that certain bands/concert acts would be playing his AID gigs before even asking them. When they called him and said "Oi! what this about?" He would invariably say "OK I'll tell the world you refused to help starving Africans..." or whatever.

I think it's pretty apt that "I don't like Mondays" came from his head. I think he understands the mentality.

    2007-08-15 01:48:56.0

    2007-08-16 00:03:43.0

hi.. just gone thro a topic abt this site.. n wanted to see ... but this is a very good site dude

    2007-08-16 00:05:10.0

    Cool... thanks!

    2007-08-16 00:06:04.0

so PraveenC what is on your to-do list this weekend?

    2007-08-16 02:50:25.0

Just trying Tangler for the first time. And what's on my to-do list this weekend? A barbecue for my aunt and uncle to commemorate their 40th wedding anniversary!

    2007-08-16 04:51:33.0

    That sounds like fun!!XP

    2007-08-16 05:00:32.0

I'm entertaining my parents this weekend so my to-do list is pretty much "don't argue with mum".  I wonder if I could persuade dad to do a barbecue in our yard if I bought one of those one-use bbqs ... hmmm *goes to check the weather forecast*

    2007-08-16 08:15:48.0

    They have one-use bbqs??:O

    2007-08-16 16:55:30.0

Its basically a foil tray full of charcoal with a wire grate over the top, useful for BBQs on beaches or in parks

wow, we have superior bbq technology to australia Cool

    2007-08-16 17:37:09.0

    yeah, that's it

    2007-08-16 17:48:06.0

    Oh! That's excellent!

Looks better than an old wok with charcoal  at any rate

    2007-08-16 17:49:33.0

My one experience with one was unfortunately an unmitigated disaster.... not entirely the fault of the apparatus...but we graduated to a cast iron Hibachi that wasn't as portable, but did a wonderful job of cooking.

    2007-08-16 17:49:58.0

    2007-08-16 17:51:09.0

    Hibachi = gas?

I don't like gas bbqs.... takes the fun out of making fire:P

    2007-08-16 17:53:11.0

You can adjust the height of the grill (that rack thingy on the back) and the flow of oxygen to the charcoal with the two control vents (sliding) on the front...

    2007-08-16 17:53:38.0

Gas bbq are simple to use, you get better control over temperature and heat convection.... but somehow I still like the old charcoal

(Before anyone yells..... yes I know this is really grilling and not BBQ at all... but I'm tired of fighting the world on this one... I use the correct terms when I'm in a devoted BBQ audience)...

    2007-08-16 17:56:08.0

    Fwaaaah!

That's excellent Bric! I've always thought abt height adjustable grills! Someone beat me to it!

    2007-08-16 17:56:46.0

Just answered that question in the post above ... then your post jumped up... and yet your time stamp is before mine... funny that...

    2007-08-16 17:56:53.0

You must be on a Sloooooooowwwwww connection.

    2007-08-16 17:57:47.0

This topic is getting too heavy duty... might be time to migrate soon

And I'm right with you Bric.... charcoal rulz!!!

And not the silly heat beads they sell here too... proper charcoal which turns your digits black upon handling

    2007-08-16 17:59:21.0

Ok now on refresh your question shows in the proper order... before my 'answer' perhaps I'm getting clairvoyant episodes.

    2007-08-16 17:59:39.0

    Hrrrmph!

    my connection is fast!

Actually, I don't really know how fast or slow it is^_^'

I refreshed on my end, and it's changed for me too...

    2007-08-16 18:01:22.0

Right ... silly me... just looked at the clock and of course you aren't on the home connection yet...

    2007-08-16 18:03:08.0

    2007-08-17 01:14:29.0

i was cofounder of the southern derby cup back in 2000; then our club went bankrupt. The derby matches lived on and we got a new USL franchise, Carolina Railhawks, and got back into the competition. Well, the lads won it back and tonight, I get to present the cup to our local fan club.

    2007-08-17 06:53:43.0

    WOO HOO!!

    Congrats fred!XP

    2007-08-17 19:23:49.0
    ray

Prepare to move out of the country...

    2007-08-18 16:59:09.0

Oh cool! Where you going ray? And from where?

    2007-08-18 19:34:02.0

Hurray it is is Friday! Lets see what is on my list this weekend:

    Try not to vomit anymore

Date with a lovely boy on Friday night (which hopefully I will be up for by tonight)

Throwing my flat mate's birthday party craziness on Saturday

Finish a PhD proposal and analyze more coral rubble data!

Should be a good productive weekend as long as no vomiting is involved I had to much of that yesterday!

    2007-08-23 20:21:21.0

Vomiting on a first date is something that can only  result in one of two polar opposite outcomes, me suspects.

    2007-08-23 22:00:38.0

Yeah I agree, but I will see what he is made of those;)

    2007-08-23 22:02:45.0

I've had a great start to the weekend - with first going for WOMAD on Friday and I had an awesome small BBQ with real charcoal and wood to roast the best and sweetest corn ever!!!

Great bonding with my bro over the BBQ.

And to think that the initial plan was to finish work reports!!

    2007-08-25 08:07:21.0

I've had such a jam-packed Saturday, it feels like I lived thru two days....

    2007-09-01 08:19:16.0

Neither! I'm down with a cold, and I think I might have caught the Horse Flu thingy.... after all, I live near a race course.... honest!

    2007-09-01 08:26:43.0

So I haven't been up to doing much today, and I came across the first season of Survivor.... been watching it, and have 6 people left to go. Think I can finish the whole season in a day?:P

    2007-09-01 08:32:36.0

    2007-09-01 11:19:10.0

^^^What a sad figure that paints in my mind.....

    2007-09-02 00:33:40.0

Shaddup! I've been sick, and aussie tv continues to live up to its reputation of being absolutely crap

    2007-09-02 02:20:16.0

I bet (pun intended) the horse flu has resulted in the biggest turnout for the greyhounds in recent history.

    2007-09-02 06:25:24.0

Well it is almost the weekend for those Sydneysiders thanks to APEC!  So what is everyone doing on the long weekend or on the regular weekend for the rest of you?

I am going to enjoy all the pub specials tonight (i.e. free champagne for ladies at one, half of drinks at another)

    Finish a paper

Spend time with the new boy:)
