For IE, right click on the image, select properties, copy the 'Address: (URL) and then come back in here, click on the Image button, and paste the code in there. Click on Submit

    2007-08-21 19:12:55.0

    2007-08-21 19:40:47.0

Like the "?"  Very apt perhaps when it comes to posting pics from your MS site. heheheLaughing

    2007-08-21 19:42:24.0

ah yes thats me - and i have done the URL thingy before with no Probs? The question mark also refers to my knowledge of Aussie Politics Yell

    2007-08-21 19:44:04.0

Hopefully helpful hint: Go to your "My pics"  on MySpace, find the one you want, right click, click "copy image location" then paste into "insert image" box on Tangler (between smiley face and film strip icons)

It really useful for posting pics to sites like this, and if you want to hide the URL go to http://tinyurl.com/create.php paste it in there before copying it to the URL box on the Tangler image box. (great for the quiz section)Cool

    2007-08-21 19:53:48.0

ohhhh.... so that's what tinyurl is good for!

    Makes one feel very small.

    2007-08-29 22:32:02.0

The Andromeda Spiral Galaxy. (also known as M31)

    Our nearest neighbour. (galaxywise)

    2007-08-29 22:47:04.0

Thanks for that Mr Mint.Tongue out

    2007-08-29 22:48:17.0

And very close to what our own galaxy would look like from a similar vantage point in the Andromeda Galaxy

    2007-08-29 22:48:29.0

    Indeed, you are correct Bric.

    2007-08-29 22:52:51.0

If Pluto doesn't count as a planet do the recently discovered dwarf galaxies count as galaxies (esp. ones that are being cannibalized by a  spiral galaxy)? ... I think the Astronomer's union will have to have another big conflab about this one.  In the meantime we can safely say it is the nearest Spiral galaxy to ours as far as I know.

    2007-08-29 22:55:56.0

    Thanks for that Mr Mint.

    have one on me JR

    2007-08-29 22:57:22.0

There she goes again, talking about The Boy from Bassendean

    2007-08-29 23:00:52.0

I'm sure it must have a recipe for Dwarf Galaxies with hemp on the side.

    2007-08-29 23:41:16.0

Wow what a great cook book Bric, I could become a Galactic Gourmet if I had one of those. Surprised

    2007-08-30 00:04:11.0

Does it have a recipe for a Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster?... because I could realy use a drink, and you humans don't have any idea about Alcohol.

    2007-08-30 00:07:40.0

The author's name is interesting.... Cicero!

    2007-08-30 00:09:04.0

There are several versions of the famous drink made using earthly ingredients here.

    2007-08-30 00:51:20.0

but I'm afraid the original recipe (below) is out of our reach:

    Recipe

    1. Take the juice from one bottle of that Ol' Janx Spirit.
    2. Pour into it one measure of water from the seas of Santraginus V.
    3. Allow three cubes of Arcturan Mega-gin to melt into the mixture (it must be properly iced or the benzene is lost).
    4. Allow four litres of Fallian marsh gas to bubble through it.
    5. Over the back of a silver spoon float a measure of Qalactin Hypermint extract.
    6. Drop in the tooth of an Algolian Suntiger.
    7. Sprinkle Zamphuor.
    8. Add an olive.
    9. Drink . . . but . . . very carefully . . .

    2007-08-30 00:52:10.0

    HEHEHEHEHE

    That's funny!

    2007-08-30 00:56:26.0

Yeah... thats what I'm talking about... Refreshing. Like being hit in the back of the head with a gold brick wrapped in a slice of lemon.

    2007-08-30 04:33:58.0

I believe it was "like having your brains smashed out with a slice of lemon wrapped round a large gold brick"

"I dont do drugs, just deep insight about lifeCool"

    Definitely drugs.

    2007-09-03 22:23:49.0

you are such a pessimist  JR, people can be happy with out drugs!! Well as long as you don't count caffeine  a drug.....

    2007-09-03 22:27:59.0

Or.... over production of endorphins and other polypeptides by  a faulty pituitary or a faulty hypothalamus.

    2007-09-03 22:33:54.0

No one is permanently happy. Otherwise there would be nothing to compare your state of happiness to. Unless you have wonky brain chemistry....drugs, natural maybe, but still drugs.

    2007-09-03 22:35:11.0

Yeah I get that, if you don't have sadness how could you tell what is happiness

    2007-09-03 22:46:24.0

Or imagine if you were 99% of the time a very happy soul, how do you cope when the solids hit the air conditioning?

There are people like that and that's when they turn to real drugs (like alcohol at the low end of the scale) to cope

    2007-09-03 23:08:58.0

    wear a sweater:)

    2007-09-03 23:10:04.0

how do you cope when the solids hit the air conditioning?

just trying to be funny guess it went over your head

    2007-09-03 23:12:15.0

    Whoosh.

    Then you'd have a sh*tty sweater.

    Wear an apron?

    2007-09-03 23:18:14.0

    eh too drafty

    2007-09-03 23:24:23.0

You can wear other stuff. As well.

    2007-09-03 23:44:05.0

or wear a plastic rain coat... but what ever you do... don't throw your solids at the air-con when I'm around... And I'm not shaking your hand after thats been in it;)

    2007-09-04 00:11:34.0

    I could wear rubber gloves.Smile

    2007-09-04 00:27:46.0

You could compare your euphoric state to the miserable bastards around you...

    2007-09-04 02:51:01.0

JR, I feel happy forr youXP Remember, you have allways a choice ! I see many sad people, and i always tell them, you got a choice, follow the bright side of life.

To summerize in 2 nice words: self-consciousness and insight Laughing

    sry offtopic Embarassed

    2007-09-04 05:43:56.0

That's not off topic. It's a form of a picture of yourself. Disturbing though it may be....WinkLaughing

    2007-09-04 10:06:54.0

I don't think there is such a thing as off topic

    2007-09-04 15:06:02.0

    in Tangler that is

    2007-09-04 15:08:14.0

My dad decided that he wanted some professionally done photos of me "at this age" (apparently my face has changed a lot in the last few years), so courtesy of the photographer guy's website I finally have a picture of myself which is both current and easily posted on the internet.

    2007-09-04 15:39:50.0

Being 100% happy all the time is unnatural. You are right, you do always have a choice, but that choice isn't 'BE HAPPY, BE HAPPY, BE HAPPY"... that choice is to accept who you are and how you are, and if you are upset or sad, or anything other than happy, than it is OK to be that way, because thats what makes 'you' you.

That choice also extends to how you react and interact... just because you are sad, doesn't mean that you need to close down. Your choice is to interact with those around you, and don't let your sadness get in the way... That doesn't mean that you need or have to be happy, only that you don't allow your state of emotion to disturb the relationships around you.

Every one knows the saying 'Try Hard'... and everyone knows how they feel drained and taken from when they interact with a 'Try Hard'... Trying to be happy all the time might not be the same as trying to be cool or trying to be accepted, but it is still trying to be something you are not and people pick that up and feel drained and taken from all the same.

Being who you are, the way you are, without superficial extras is the real 'picture' of you

@SK  Nice pic mate, I would love to get some professional photos done now that I've seen yours

if you are comfortable with who you are and understand yourself and your emotions then I think you are on the right track to being a healthy minded adult and really that is all that matters

    2007-09-04 16:49:22.0

    Agreed

    2007-09-04 16:49:50.0

I think those people always telling others "Be happy, it doesn't matter what life throws you, you only need to be happy" are the deluded ones, because they are masking their real emotions and not actually finding what they really think or feel about something, because their natural reaction is 'smile' 'be happy'... but its not real.

Thats why many incidences of people breaking and violently erupting are from people who always appear happy from the outside, and people always say "I can't believe it was Joe Bloggs, he's such a happy person". Because their initial reaction is to be happy, they never learn to properly deal with their emotions and feelings, and things silently build up on the inside.

Not to say all outwardly happy people are like that... because not everyone gets to the point of eruption, but if you don't learn to deal with real life than there will be internal/emotional/psychological ramifications. Many people only end up having breakdowns, where they can't do anything... which is caused by the same repression of 'natural' feelings.

It is very much the bottling effect where people bottle their emotions or ignore them and then they snap and go "postal" as we like to say.  But I think it is okay to be sad, mad, upset, happy, or whatever emotions because with out recognizing that you feel these different emotions, how can you tell that you are truly happy.  So embrace all emotions that life has to offer or you will just become jaded

    2007-09-04 17:10:00.0

Is it ok/healthy to spend the majority of the time with your emotional gear stick in neutral? 'cause don't have a lot of emotional highs or lows.. am I missing out?

Wouldn't want to spend so much time in neutral that I suddenly snap and go to the opposite of neutral... whichever end that happens to be at XP

    2007-09-04 17:46:33.0

whoa you just confused me a bit there SK but I think I get it.....

    2007-09-04 17:49:56.0

I have a lot of time on my hands, so I made a little MSPaint drawing XP

The super-"happy" guy in the red is clearly about to snap, and the depressed guy at the other end... well that's not a good place to be either, question is, if the guy in the middle is neutral for too long, will he bug out and suddenly snap to one of the other ends....

I'd say, there is nothing wrong with apathy (meh...). Being indifferent in situations where others are emotionally high or emotionally low can be an advantage. And you seem to recognize your state of being, which would suggest to me that you would be aware of feelings other than indifference if/when you have them. Being able to recognize your 'real' thoughts and feelings allows you to 'process' or 'deal' with them.

Being apathetic is still having a thought/opinion/emotion about something... even if it is "Meh".

    2007-09-04 18:54:23.0

SK - love the doggy!!! So cuuuute!

You know that thing they say about dogs and their owners.....?:P

    2007-09-04 19:26:26.0

Regarding happiness and states of mind - I try to do this: Feel what you're feeling at that moment, in that situation, deal with it, resolve it and move on. I treat highs and lows as pretty much the same thing - I'm grateful for both, and quite like it the way it is. And above all, I try to remember that whatever I'm going thru at that point probably won't matter in a year, two years, 10 years, (good or bad) and that time and memory will work to fade it out anyways.

The trick for me was to realise that permanence plays a very small role in life

    2007-09-04 19:33:16.0

yup, I have been told that we have the same hair style on several unrelated occasions ;)

    back to the high/low/meh..

I sometimes think I'm too objective about things - other people can get all caught up in a moment and be (seemingly) insanely happy for a while, I don't get that - tend to be more detached from things, less emotionally tied up in whatever it is that's happening etc. etc.

On the other hand, I have to wonder how much of the insane happiness is socially learned behaviour along the lines of "something good has happened, time to to scream and jump about and hug people" in contrast to my response - think "that's pretty awesome", maybe verbalise that feeling of awesomeness then carry on with stuff.

Possibly tied into the long view dek just mentioned - I'm very aware of just how temporary to the point of transience most things are, so it's harder to get all super-excited about things because I have in the back of my head the fact that they won't be around for long, same goes for bad things though, I doubt I could ever turn suicidal in the absence of clinical depression because I'm always kinda aware that if stuff sucks, just wait a while and it'll change.

    2007-09-06 17:47:56.0

SK - I get what you mean. I am quite like you, especially because I usually don't see the great significance of those 'something good' events. At the same time, my exterior reaction is usually determined by how I think it would affect the other person. So if someone has told me about something, and they are so happy they can barely contain themself, I try to be supportive. No point being a wet blanket. Same goes for a 'tragic' event. Key point here is that I try to follow this idea - we all experience the world in our own way. Although I might not react the same way someone is reacting to something, it doesn't mean I can't understand it.

I also do think that a lot of how we outwardly express our emotions is a cultural thing. A learnt behaviour. So having someone from my past spot me and proceed to shriek my name and go hysterical in public is something they've learnt. It has never made sense to me, but I just wait for them to calm down. Or like atheists exclaiming 'Oh My God' when expressing shock/disbelief. That has to be a leant behaviour! (Otherwise it is hypocritical, and in that case I have an issue with it:P)

    2007-09-06 18:49:01.0

@SK I would say you are more realistic than those you mentioned jumping and hugging. I would agree that the over elatedness is possibly socially learned or just over the top behavior for self acceptance or verification.

    2007-09-06 19:11:02.0

Or like atheists exclaiming 'Oh My God' when expressing shock/disbelief.

heh, I try to say "oh my science" when I can remember to do so, but it doesn't have the same monosyllabic ring to it

    2007-09-06 19:15:46.0

Try what Arthur Dent came up with sometime ago, and which I love - Oh My Dog!!

    Works well as OMD too!

    2007-09-06 19:17:53.0

Alternatively, "oh your god" XP (assuming the other person isn't also an atheist.. or polytheistic - then it would be "oh your gods")

    2007-09-06 19:23:00.0

what does an dyslectic, insomniac, atheist do?...

    2007-09-06 19:23:21.0

    2007-09-06 19:23:25.0

stay up all night wondering if there really is a dog

    2007-09-06 19:24:17.0

    I got there first, mr mc-edit-pants :P

    2007-09-06 19:24:51.0

    HAHAHAHHAHAHHA

    2007-09-06 19:25:15.0

@ both the joke and @ both of you!

    2007-09-06 19:25:40.0

    There you go:)

    2007-09-06 19:25:51.0

the way I head that one its a dyslexic, insomniac agnostic, but atheist was more contextual XP

    2007-09-06 19:26:19.0

I am of the opinion that someone who is permanently happy (like Mickeb above) might be in as much psychological trouble as someone who is permanently sad. But we are never in a hurry to treat that, are we?

That is why I suggested drug abuse (which could include alcohol), otherwise I'd suggest that someone like that is in a medically "Manic" state.

    2007-09-06 21:25:41.0

    Super king is that you?

    Really?

    REALLY?

    (on the left yeah?):)

    Cool.

Great dog too. What kind is it?

    2007-09-07 00:41:14.0

He's a crossbreed between an Italian Spinone and a Lagotto (another italian breed)

The litter was kind of a mistake - the breeder used to breed spinones and now breeds lagottos, but she kept her favourite male spinone and he got in with the females one day..... but apparently the cross is quite common in Italy.

heh, spinones are more laid back and lagottos are a little crazy, we get a mix of that - he'll run himself silly in the park then collapse when we get home and be really docile after that

    2007-09-07 02:20:46.0

    heheheheheh

Yeah, I remember your stories about him - he sounds like a delight!
