I always get a laugh when you are talking to some one and the physically give you unnecessary quotation marks!  I normally call them out on it because it makes them look intelligent haha!

    2007-10-16 15:22:23.0

I don't do it "physically" but otherwise, guilty as "charged" Embarassed

I agree Kaz, though I must admit I'd be one of the first to initially get terribly confused and mix up the punctuation

    2007-10-16 19:11:09.0

haha oh yeah me too, but that would still be entertaining!

    2007-10-16 21:57:05.0

I use them in writing.  I also use a lot of brackets (like this).  I tend to write as I speak so it seems natural to use the ""'s and ()'s to put inflections on the written word.  Unless you are a complete jerk you don't need to do the "finger actions" or say "open bracket", "close bracket" or even mention other punctuation when speaking.  Although some annoying people do finish a sentence with"period" to emphasise the end of their diatribe - as if we didn't know they've finished, the place has all of a sudden gone quiet.

    :P

    2007-10-17 03:45:38.0

"Period" can sometimes be used to emphasise a point - to say "and that's the end of the matter" but most of the time, unnecessary.

    2007-10-17 06:53:26.0

it is when they say "period" with the pointy finger thing that annoys me the most

    2007-10-17 16:41:25.0

to emphasise a point - to say "and that's the end of the matter"

I like"no dice". Not sure if it is used correctly in this case but ... No Dice.

    2007-10-17 20:17:09.0

    haha

    2007-10-17 20:21:53.0

Actually it's over use of exclamation marks that drives me crazy!!!!!

    2007-10-17 23:58:47.0

    I second that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    2007-10-18 08:35:51.0

misuse of apostrophe's as well, that really bug's me

    2007-10-18 09:46:15.0

I am guilty of that Embarassed but I am working really hard on it

    2007-10-18 15:21:16.0

Nothing bug's me more than seeing misplaced apostrophe's

    :P

    2007-10-18 17:49:57.0

    And confusing 'their' and 'there'

    2007-10-18 17:50:29.0

I do like this one ^^

The With Love is evidently pre-printed and yet Mom & Dad have "quoted" it (in the same colour blue they signed in)  giving the impression they don't quite m-e-a-n the sentiment, indicating they wish to correct the legend, but only wish to state their "love" for public consumption.

    2007-10-19 09:12:42.0

I think they just wanted to personalise the very unimaginative greeting in the card.

    2007-10-19 09:48:50.0

yeah, the "With Love" part is kinda lame - could be they just wanted to say they didn't like the phrase but did still feel the sentiment expressed.

    2007-10-19 10:38:52.0

    Could've just crossed it out....

    2007-10-19 23:27:56.0

It could have been worse... the card could have been like this:

    Te Odio

    2007-10-19 23:49:37.0

    HAHAHAHA That's funny!

    2007-10-20 06:25:47.0

I don't see how it could be worse.....I think that which has tickled my funny bone has been missed by some Tangerites:

The card, I expect, was bought by Mum & Dad, they then amended the sentiment therein. Which in itself is odd, but something that is written, anywhere, is supposed to be representative of conversation. So with that in mind, imagine the real conversation the card is supposed to represent and include Air Quotes

Imagine any conversations the parents might have with their precious child....

Reassurance: 'Of course you can do it, you are "capable" of anything.'

Praise: ' Aren't you "clever"?' & 'Yes you are "special"'

Comfort: 'We "love" you very much'

    2007-10-21 02:16:11.0

Reminds me of that Friends episode with the quotation marks...
