My top 5
I liked Studio 60 from the makers of West Wing, but it was not in the same class. It tried a little bit too hard.
South Park, Invader Zim, Futurama, old seasons of the Simpsons.... I love me some cartoons
Black Books, Green Wing, Scrubs... I love me some surreal funny
Blackadder, Fawlty Towers, Monty Python... I love me some classic funny (some of it also surreal)
I like too much stuff to just pick 5. I'd be adding in Family Guy and Lost next, maybe Planet Earth, some of the crappy cartoons I remember being awesome when I was younger (Road Runner is still freakin' awesome)
Red Dwarf, The Office, The Bill ...
I'll have to go along SK's lines....
So
Comedy - IT crowd, The office, Top gear, Grumpy Old Men/Women, Boston Legal
Drama - Top Gear, West Wing, ER, The Shield, Boston Legal
Reality - Insight, Top Gear, Survivor
That's all I got for now
Did I mention Top Gear?
Oh, and Black Books too. Great stuff
yeah - Red Dwarf for one. Fawlty Towers for another, used to love the X-Files and Heroes now. The Goodies also for nostaglic reasons - although they seem to fade with age. Used to love Thundercats and Battle of the Planets when i was a kid. Never really found drama shows as interesting - not sure why. Oh and The Late Show (for all you non- aussies it was a comedy sketch show back in the eighties/nineties) -speaking of the eighties - The Young Ones.
Not too much that is really recent
@Ruski - as much as all these things are relative and due to personal taste and i don't want to start a war. . . . but The Bill? Old or new or just plain all of it?
I agree with the X-files, and I wanted to add it into my list. But I'll only give it that until Mulder left. Was downhill all the way after that
The Bill? Old or new or just plain all of it?
The nearest thing to a drama that I can watch. The great thing is I can walk away for weeks or months and come back and fit back in after a single episode. And Reg Hollis is still in it.
Strange stuff Ruski.
Hey Dek - wouldn't Top Gear come under "infotainment"? . . . . not to be associated with those terrible "5 Second Abs" things. I don't know how they can even label anything like that close to entertainment - let alone tagging part of the word to it.
(great show BTW, Top Gear that is)
Truth be known Simon, it is the missus that is obsessed with The Bill so it has become a constant for me. She records it when she knows she wont be home to watch. I'm not that bad. I started off taking the piss and imitating the various English accents for days after until I got bored with that and just started watched it because it was on. I still cannot think of two more shows to add to my three above to make the top 5.
"Orite then Guv?"
Having thought about a little further, The Royle Family was pretty funny.
As one eyed and patriotic as I am there is no Australian TV show that should even make anyones top 1000. They are all like Fosters beer ... export.
@Simon In my book, Top Gear comes under any banner you can think of. It's got everything!!
All I know is that I have a beeeg silly smile on my face for a few hours after watching the show![]()
@Ruski THE CHASER!!! I'd give that a top 10. And Full Frontal too.... maybe. Didn't watch enough of it to decide.
Aussies have a very original sense of humour, and these kinds of shows rock!
Forgot those.
How un-aussie of you
I dont see the Chaser as a TV show. It is more a way of life.
hahaaha
Tell that to the commercial channels!
and the pollies
On of my fav Aussie shows was The Glass House. Still funnier than the Chaser, IMHO.
Top gear all the way. Saw them filming once. Most thrilling. They film the shows about 12 miles away.
Have I got News for you is very good but its not a very good export.
Another vote for Top Gear here! I guess out of new programmes I'd have to put Heroes in there. I'm also a closet Highlander fan so yeah, Highlander. I also love Casualty. I guess my fifth choice would have to be a Star Trek although I can never decide TNG or DS9. In general if it's sci-fi I love it. I like some comedies and dramas but generally prefer sci-fi - even the rubbish ones!
1. X-Files 2. Northern Exposure 3. Simpsons 4. ER 5. Friends
I like Neighbours. It's one of those TV programs you can talk over and no-one complains...
LOL
Why do/would you even have it on??
Meanwhile, I decided to watch Top Gear to sleep last night, and it was SUCH AN EXCELLENT episode that I laughed all the way thru, and was wide awake at the end.
Fawlty Towers is good. Very funny. Any votes for Lost?
I like Lost, although it's become almost a declaration of faith to think that they actually have a plan and/or intend to sort everything out before the end
I'm still undecided about Lost. It's a good show, but I doubt it'd make my top 10, 5 whatever. The only thing about Lost is that it has a good story, or that's what were inclined to believe since mainly, we don't even know the story....![]()
You get the feeling when watching lost that its going to string out forever.
Or that they're trying to at least...
Well there is now a fixed end date - they're going to do 3 seasons of 16 shows then it ends.
This means it should be better when it comes back because they can take the rest of the story (assuming they know where there going with all this) and spread it out properly over their remaining time, hopefully cutting out all the filler that was made necessary by wanting to string it out, not knowing how much longer they had to make the real story last for.
We'll see....
I wouldn't put it past them to leave it hanging
My favs are Stargate SG1, Stargate Atlantis, Star Trek TNG, Star Trek Voyager, and Modern Marvels
Modern Marvels as in the new Marvel cartoons?
The Goodies... anyone?
Modern Marvels is a show on the discovery channel. They basically show you modern technologies.
Will and Grace
Deadwood
I have watched only Will and Grace off the last list of shows.... and I think I miss it!
how about the shield? one of the best series ever in my opinion
I really like the Shield... what I've seen of it that it...
Unfortunately, over here in Aust, they have a weird system of airing shows, so I haven't actually seen the whole thing. But yeah, I can't think of any other show which has blown me away that much.... and in which I don't if I love or hate the main character!
My 5 would be;
The office (UK)
Extras
peep show
red dwarf
spaced
The Extras is good entertainment for sure!
*Forgot to mention Robot Wars. Now that you can watch on Youtube. Pity they cancelled it in its prime. It was originally hosted by Jeremy Clarkson.
Clarkson hosted Robot Wars? When?
Craig Charles was doing it for a long time.. didn't realise anyone "major" was hosting before that...
Robot Wars was pretty darn awesome, Hypno Disc and Razer were always my favourites, and some of the other regular contenders were fun too.
Isn't Robot Wars the one where it's essentially two robots in a boxing ring?
I've watched an ep or two, and it was sort of appealing.
I'm more of a builder than a destroyer. Unless I need spare parts
Agree with the West Wing (Two Cathedrals episode was the best bit of TV ever made IMHO), Top Gear (new episode this week is a classic) Red Dwarf etc but would like to add Spooks to the mix.
It's hard to find TV programs that I "can't miss" but I have been known to sit and watch:
Absolutely Fabulous
Only Fools and Horses
Open All Hours
Dads Army
Have I got News for You
plus a few others I can't think of right now.
Ah yes HIGNFY is a classic. So topical and so cutting! I love the way Hislop can't say anything he likes anymore or he's in contempt of court!
Which one is Two Cathedrals?
Last episode of series 2. Gives me goosebumps when I watch the last six minutes again.
One of my favourite scenes too.
"Well Jed, I don't even wanna know you."
E1 and E2 of Season 2 are my other favourites. The flash backs. With Josh going to get Sam.
"I'm going to New Hampshire"
I like that song in the background.
I like all their season endings and beginnings. Fav ep would be the one where his daughter gets kidnapped
Oh yeah, and the set up, the eps that you mention Mick, I really enjoyed those too![]()
Clarkson hosted Robot Wars? When?
Clarkson hosted Robot Wars for one year before he left for some reason. He wasn't very good at hosting it surprisingly. Then Robot Wars was simply 8 robots in a ring with trap doors and fire and such and the last to break down won some metal.
It was brilliant.
Sending ...
