I'm currently working in one of the most decorated workplaces I've ever seen in my life. There's streamers and hanging things and stuff everywhere.
Do you or have you previously worked in stupidly decorated workplaces, do you think it enhances or detracts productivity?
Describe what's going on.... humour me, it's a slow afternoon and I'm struggling to find something entertaining
Decorated for an event, or that's how it is all the time?
it seems that it's decorated all the time but the specific decorations change with events.
We've got a magnetic dartboard in here, plus some toys, just added 3 trees, and lots of ping pong balls to throw at one another![]()
Oh! Wow... they seem to make an effort!
I've also worked in other places where they were put up for a 'day' or something but left there because they were cool looking or people were too lazy to take them down
hahaha Sounds like my family home.... we used to leave the Diwali decorations up for months!
heh, in one of my sharehouses, we had a christmas tree that stayed up for 6 months... then we figured it would be easier to just leave it there for the next Christmas
Sounds like I'd fit right in over there!
presently in my area we have a screen that was made from sticking posters together and we play movies on it during the day with no sound...
That's cool!!
You play the movies using a projector of some sort?
yup, there's a projecter and dvd player set up against one of the pylons which are throughout the office. it's a pretty cool idea and the types of things we play you can turn and look at quickly or watch for a bit and enjoy just as much
Yeah, I like that.
I brought in a boom box, but we can't agree on the type of music, so it only gets heard when there's 2 of us in the office
hehehe
ahh I've never really had music at work... people do wear headphones here though, we used to be allowed to wear them in Bris but then the guards got all hardass
guards?? About headphones?
I used to work at a place where they had a full-on stereo, good sound, the works. And all they every played on it was a radio station with bad reception.... go figure
this place had guards at the door, you had to flash your id to get in the building and they'd yell at you if you had headphones on.
HAHAHAHAHA
That's nuts!
Me thinks they were resentful that they couldn't have em too...
yeah probably, or they had to sit in the somewhat boring lobby all day and check ID cards![]()
Ali, you writing this from work?
haha yeah, but not the same workplace (which is in Bris and I'm now in Syd)
you may note that I've intentionally not given details of employers or clients but still being descriptive enough to leave you with a sense of understanding
With 'streamers and hanging things and stuff', am figuring you're neither at the ATO nor with ASIO.
you never know... but it is unlikely that I am.
I'm guessing not with Microsoft either![]()
oh MS is all about the partying I thought?
heh.... not the impression I get... *shrug*
Ali could set up a new Topic Guess where I work? and offer clues and a prize should anyone identify her workplace.
LOL!! Good idea!
Is there a prize?
Alex, that would be a very short Topic I think...
Though everybody else must have plain workplaces because there's been no other replies. I wanted funky furniture, nerf toys and abnormally shaped meeting room table stories
You work @ Google.
Bzzt, incorrect
The creche @ Ikea, Moore Park
Nope
And I say that cos there isn't an Ikea at Moore Park anymore![]()
Hey Ali, check this topic out for some interesting office pics
That's really funny, because I'm not a kid person at all.
LOL!
You manage the Admissions Programme for a secure hospital and you have this funky material in the waiting room to give the new patients some degree of comfort before they pass to the other side and their incarceration?
Heheh I love it and I'm almost sorry I have to say no that's not it either.
It's GTFO time again so I'll see you guys tomorrow afternoon, I scored a late start tomorrow![]()
See ya!
Some famous office spaces: http://uaddit.com/discussions/showthread.php?t=706
Our post office has stamps stuck to the ceiling as Christmas decorations.
HAHAHAHA Are you serious??
Are they able to take it down?
@Super-King. You mind lying down on the floor next time you visit your special post office and taking a picture for us? If one of the other customers then takes a photo of you lying on said floor, that will be a bonus.
oh Alex, bringing Twitter @'s into Tangler *tut tut*
Since when Ali did Twitter take ownership of the @?
ahh it didn't, just the first thing I thought of when I saw it.
Curses, I'm the victim of branding!!!
@Super-King. You mind lying down on the floor next time you visit your special post office and taking a picture for us?
Sorry, that isn't really possible. By Post Office I actually meant the small sorting office at the back of the PO itself. (I've seen the inside of this because my dad works there). But they had to move to a larger sorting office (the central one for this area, as opposed to the local one) after the Sub-Postmaster (who owns the office and runs a Post-Office Counters franchise (separate from Royal Mail)) threatened to shoot the Royal Mail manager.
Long story, I mangled it with nested brackets and lack of information.. but there you go.
hahaha An amusing one nonetheless![]()
I like pie and Royal Mail
I would like balloons in my workplace. Regular and helium filled
i wouldn't mind something exciting decorating the office. Maybe a live WWII reenactment, even a bit of Jane Austen to add a bit of variety (and kultshah). Then i could say "sorry, can't talk on the phone right now, i'm right in the middle of the Battle of Waterloo and Napolean is standing on my desk to get a better view"
Simon, that's an excellent idea!!
We have balloons here Dek, there are even some unblown up ones sitting on the desk next to mine. I'll smuggle them over to you shall I?
ROFL @ Simon! That's hilarious!!
Yaaaay!!! I can haz balloons!
See, here I was laughing at the idea of those who 'suffer' in a decorated workplace.....
and then I come to work this morning and find balloons and posters EVERYWHERE, and now, yes now i feel for you people although I deserve no sympathy because I laughed in the first place ....

Oh and what bothers me even more is that nobody told me it was happening? ... *sob* ...
HAHAHAHA
What's the occasion?
(can I join you?)
I wish it was for something exciting!! We put them up to celebrate the launch of our new product line....(*sarcastic "woo"*)
LOL!
Ahh Morgan K. and here I was thinking that it was your birthday or something.
In an old workplace we'd do horribly embarassing things to somebody's desk on their birthdays, and they wondered why I never wanted to tell anybody when mine was.... I did well, on the actual day they didn't find out until just after lunch![]()
We had some fun recently helping each other put up a huge banner at bluepulse. Turns out, vinyl banners are about the cheapest decor per meter you can find. More photos.
You know what's more fun? Making your own banners!
Great team building exercise too
sounds like great fun![]()
I work in a heritage listed building so no nailing or stapling of anything into the non-makeshift walls is allowed, I love the rough brick walls though so I don't mind
Woo! Brick walls!
Dunno why I posted that...
HappyWanderer it's because you probably don't see a lot of them..... maybe
Dont tell me what I may or may not see!!! lol
I happen to like brick walls very much. Cant get enough of them.
Ahh it's ok, we won't tell anybody![]()
...in fact I like them a little too much...
I get the feeling there is something about HW that is not quite right.....
Whilst working for Microsoft (MSN Dept) We had the MSN logo hanging over almost every cube. They used to constantly snap and fall on peoples heads hahaa
hehehe... that explains a lot
LOL!
Such a feel good story that one![]()
Didn't feel good when it cut your head in half
hahahahaha
That'd be a novel way of firing employees!
Muahahaha!!!
i was tring to copy/paste pictures of people in offices with the logo on their heads...but which logo?? haha
LOL!
From the Coolest Cubicle Contest:

I personally really like this one:

So cosy
About the size of my bedroom that.
that site rocks, I wish I had a cubicle now.... instead of just these crappy pods which aren't even static workplaces
Yeah.... I liked having a cubicle at my old workplace. Even more that it was in a quiet corner of the office.
Not sure how productive I'd be in one like that though
I think I could just sleep there
Eggactly!
If it was on the ground floor you could dig underneath it...
i once worked in a place with a very dirty carpet. it feels so terrible
No chance getting it cleaned?
zerooq, that would suck because one thing I love about my current job is that I take my shoes off at soon as I get to work and have to remember to put them back on again when I get up![]()
oooh oooh... you guys have to see this!!
Musical:

I like it cos it just looks soooo cool, but my fav has to be this one:

Hot wheels theme!![]()
Is hot wheels cool now?
Hasn't it always been?
NO!!!!!!! Matchbox was IT back in the day.....LOL
It's cool, no matter what anyone sez.
Hrrrmph!
Hotwheels and matchbox were great just I didnt think they were "cool."
I guess it was coz I had them before the whole "coolness" thing came along.
errrm.... and how old are you?
Hot Wheels were cool in the 80s if I remember correctly
HAHAHA dek....I was gonna say exactly the same thing!!!
![]()
the gd thing about hotwheels was they could roll for miles but matchbox cars just looked way better.
i just had to add this to this thread:
I knew about the Red Bull offices.... but WOW! Those are all amazing! My gosh!
Sending ...
