I started this topic because I was excited that they are making a new mini-series of V called V: The Second Generation.
I remember the original from way back in 1983 where people were hooked, especially if you were into Sci-fi. The new series just brought back memories of the 80's. What do you remember most from this cool period?
Here's a couple more to get you started:
Will leave it there for now
Rick Astley - although he's been mentioned before.
Eddie the Eagle
Oh and I think 1980 was the last time an original pop song was written (that is worth listening to)
Like Adam & The Ants.
I remember Eddie the Eagle, He was that short sighted accident prone skier lol
I remember not existing. Does that count?
I remember cool music, but the cool music was swamped by bad music, which made the whole 80's genre "bad" but the cool music was still there, you just had to dig a little deeper....wait, a lot deeper....there really was a lot of crap in the 80's....
hmm...that post really wasn't about anything.....
Duran Duran - which I still listen to
Transformers!! - still mad abt them
Knight Rider
Those toxic bubbles
Those snap on wrist strap things
M.A.S.K!!
billy idol
rubber jewelry....especially bracelets
thundercats
ugly a$$ cabbage patch dolls
dancing in nightclubs......the drinking age was 18 so it was a lot easier to pass.
lazer floyd (or zeppelin )at the planetarium
Care Bears!!
Man, I remember them Cabbage Patch things... never had any, but they looked ewwww
They also had those dolls that doubled up as a handbag - or something
holly hobby
strawberry shortcake
sweater dresses
Oooh sweater dresses! Never ever seen one up close I think.
Has anyone mentioned big hair yet?
And mullets a la Mcgyver?

Popples was a series of fictional characters created by Those Characters From Cleveland (TCFC), a subsidiary company of American Greetings, and the plush toys were manufactured by Mattel. Produced in the 1980s, these toys resemble brightly colored teddy bears, and have pouches on their backs that can be inverted, so they are in the pouches and resemble brightly colored balls.
Thats what they were called, and I HAD ONE!! he was purple and had a blue nose and ears and a "soccer-ball" pouch on his back (subsequently turning into a soft-soccer-ball-plush toy)
OH My goodness!!!
I have never seen those.... and now I'm scarred for life!
Okay, I found this. If you have nothing better to do, you can spend 30 mins naming all the 80s cartoons.
BY THE POWER OF GREYSKULL!!

Madonna when she had curves ... skin-tight, metallic, leather pants ... shoulder pads that made you look like a linebacker ... and the original (I want my) MTV.

And crap international call quality
ZX Spectrum, Atari, BBC Computer, Sinclair C5, 1" TV and loads of other ground breaking technology of the same ilk...
Movies like Big and Back to the Future! And Indy!
And crap international call quality
Yes, the 80's was a rather strange time for phone calls. In the UK the "phone at home" population was growing rapidly but it was still an occaision to phone someone - especially international. If you were calling a relative or a relative calling you from abroad, you'd have several other members of the family who would come over for the call (driving 100 miles was cheaper than a half hour call from UK to USA in 1983). Nowadays you think nothing of chatting for hours to a neighbour who you could quite easily walk round and see.
LOL! Yeah!! I actually remember those days.... and calls were sooooo hurried, cos everyone was worried about the cost.
Now, with my calling card, my calls to the States or Singapore are cheaper than calling a local mobile!
What calling card do you use?
Hello card.
And most places you buy them from usually give a 10% discount on top of that.
I tend to recharged the one I have, and with a $30 recharge, I get $3 bonus (or something along those lines).
Whatever it is, it's a lot.... I never finish it by the end of the 6 month validity
Does it have a connection fee?
Lemme think.... I think it's 11c per call or something
Maybe less.... never really paid attention
LOL i think i do the same!
When it's that cheap, one ceases to care...![]()
I remember Wallace and Gromit from the 80's when I wasnt existing.
Wow! W&G are that old??
Oh oh, and my hero in those days -
It is quite likely that I formed an interest in science all thanks to him
the clash:
Crossed wires and listening in to other people's conversations![]()
what u doin hiding all the way down here in this topic, huh??? LOL
The Clash were pretty cool though!
hehehe Just thought of it.
(I know nothing of the Clash)
![]()
Get. Out.

i don't care how old/young you are, what rock were you living under to not know the clash?
oh wait i forgot.....my imagination
is there a way to link directly to a specific post in a thread?
Not yet bluegirl.
And in my defence.... I was a kid in the 80s!
next you'll be telling me you've never heard of the beatles!
![]()
Well, they were before the 80s.... and correct me if I'm wrong, waaaaay bigger than the Clash?
Who are the Beatles?
HAHAHAHAHA
The Clash were a good band but were defeated by Tony Blairs version of Should I stay or go which was marginely better than the original.
I need YouTube evidence please:::
The Dead Kennedy's effort of "I fought the Law" was rather good too.
the dead kennedy's helped me get through a lot of my teenage anger issues.![]()
LOL. Yes. DK's are still solving my issues in my 30 something's.
i just recently got an ipod (being broke and *ahem* over 30, i am somewhat behind technologically), and while searching for music to download (trying to avoid anything i currently have on cd) i found the DK's and got a few tunes. seriously brought back some memories. once i got in high school mode i continued on with some generation x and suicidal tendencies.
I too have only recently acquired an mp3 player of sorts and have poisoned it with the likes of "Pull My Strings" ... "Nazi Punks Fuck Off" ... and many others ...
Stealing Peoples Mail
Religious Vomit
nice.
doesn't this music just bring to mind images of rainbows and puppies?
![]()
LOL.
When i was like 11/12 (1981/82) i was confused as to which band was which: Def Leopard and Led Zeppelin.
I still am...

I need YouTube evidence please:::
HAHAHHAHA
That's great!!
i just keep coming across 80's memories.
this one might only bring back memories for the americans:
Wasn't the Pet Rock a product of the 80s too?
Miss the good ol days? Send a Retro-Gram!
Trivial Pursuit. What a waste of time that was. People used to "have friends round" for a game.
Sad bastards!
Not good?
um....i wasn't one of those people...I swear!! (lies, i tell you!) although, i did it in the 90's, and we ALWAYS played with the kids questions!!
and i had a pet rock too ... ![]()

HAHAHAHAHA
Too funny!
I love game nights! Too bad I don't have more.

So what on earth do you do on a "Werewolf Night" or shouldn't I ask?
We morph and kill people![]()
Actually, its a game: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mafia_(game)

Not many showed up, so we just sat back and chatted

The first time I played it, it was immensely fun!!
