Why don't you wear your brownish Doctor Who suit and match it up with something quite outrageous, like a mauve shirt and orange tie?

Simple.  Wear the brown suit with a matching shirt and tie - anything else will look crappy.  If there must be a match to turquoise then get a turquoise handkerchief and fold it in the breast pocket - it will show her two things.  1) Despite being a student you have a bit of dress sense, 2) You have empathy with her because of the handkerchief.  If that doesn't get you laid then move on... and that advice came from Mrs Dent as did the following.

A  suggestion for you (at student prices)...  There is two stores in Edinburgh (I presume you are there - St Andrews)

i just want to add that brown looks great with turquoise.

my 13 year old sister-in-law wore a turquoise and brown dress to a family wedding (and she is very fashion conscious), she looked amazing.

it's not age, i don't find obesity attractive (male or female), especially when it suddenly shows up in the middle of a fashion discussion. if you had them in a separate thread, and i knew what i was about to see, maybe i'd look out of curiosity.......maybe not.

as you know, i'd have no problem with anyone posting sexy(ish) pictures of men or women so long as they weren't obese. i try not to judge people, and i don't think i really judge overweight folks (hey- i'm not as skinny as i once was, and i have been quite overweight in the past), but that doesn't mean i want to look at naked pictures of them.

nope (well maybe), it's my 3 year old. she already talks about becoming a designer (or an astronaut or a true princess). she, literally, changes her outfits several times a day. and they are often unique outfits.

Yep.  10 ish out of 10.   The turquoise hanky would have (probably) been the icing on the cake but I reckon you were correctly dressed enough to impress.  Mind you, combing your hair have gained you a few more smarty points with the girlfriend...

I have similar hair, and going from experience, it would take some effort to get it to look as half-way tidy as it does in that photo.

Barely any crazy frizzy bits floating about like they're charged with static, it's all pointing in more or less the right direction (away from the crown of the head), even a coherent fringe line. He done good 

I have longish hair, which Mrs Dent hates me having 'cos she thinks I look like a decrepid old hippie (it's not that long though) and she always says I need to comb it.  Hence my comment...
