I'm watching rage tonight, they're counting down the hottest 100 songs of all time (as voted by triple j listeners)

First 50 tonight, top 50 tomorrow.

    2009-08-07 13:54:56.0

Song list can be found here

    2009-08-07 13:56:28.0

I'm mildly disappointed that Pink Floyd's "The Wall" didn't make it. Surely that could have been one of the greatest songs ever! Who counted those votes!

    2009-08-07 13:57:26.0

Actually, a lot of the songs that I thought would make it, well.. didn't.

Oh well. There's always the next hottest 100 of forever.

    2009-08-07 14:01:09.0

Is this the same list they did on radio a couple of weeks ago?

    2009-08-08 00:39:07.0

A very poor showing I know, but I only recognise 15 of those.

Though there maybe a few more I'd know if  heard them, without knowing what they're called.

    2009-08-08 15:02:51.0

    I wouldn't be surprised Sir M.

A lot of music played here isn't heard in other parts of the world.

    2009-08-08 21:56:47.0

    It's like a whole other universe!:O

    2009-08-08 21:56:58.0

Hottest of all time?? Surprised (I think not)

They only represent some of the music noise from the last 20 (or so) years...

    2009-08-09 00:02:53.0

I'm guessing that to their listeners, that *is* 'All time'

    :P

    2009-08-09 03:41:18.0

    Yeah, I suppose so...(poor buggers).

    2009-08-09 06:38:53.0

HAHAHAHA it's true! Although, I've been listening to triple j, and my years don't date to before the 1980's, yet I still know tons of "old" music - and I actually prefer some of it!! I must be one of the few people under 30 who HATES the music of today.. and you really have to go searching for the good stuff nowadays.

    2009-08-10 03:32:59.0

Get off my lawn!! *shakes cane*

    </Morgan>

    :P

    2009-08-10 04:10:57.0

I think my personal clock is set and will never go past the year 2000. I still think "twenty years ago" means 1980, "forty years ago" the 1960's etc... I just can't seem to factor in this decade (which is almost over).. although this doesn't seem to bother me at all. XP

    2009-08-10 04:59:09.0

Oh my, you've just made me realise... ME TOO!:O

    2009-08-10 06:19:00.0

    Of all time LOL.

    2009-08-10 06:45:47.0

    Dont agree with 1 - 3.

    4 is good.

A few good ones but not many to 28 and 29 but wouldn't have picked Where is my mind.

Nick Cave "The Ship Song" maybe.

LOL at You am I even being in a top 1000. They were fun at the time but not all time.

The Clash yes but would not have picked London Calling.

Kings of Leon bandwagon alert. Their first album was cool.

    95. Stevie Wonder. Now we're talking.

    2009-08-10 06:51:29.0

Yeah... the number of years it's been since 2000 always catches me out too.

If something's "from 2003" it sounds pretty much new, but it's actually 6 years old, which is a fair length of time to still be calling something new. The 60s/80s etc... also, feel like they ought to be 40/20 years ago, not an extra 9 on top.

I think it's 'cause the 9 is so small compared to the 2000, so when we approximate the difference between dates we end up ignoring it. So deep inside the number-estimating depths of my brain it must be working something like

    • 2009 vs 2003: meh, they're essentially the same number - 3 digits the same.
    • 1960 vs 1990: the 19 is the same so it's clearly 60 vs 30
    • 1960 vs 2009: the big important numbers at the front have changed, we can just approximate using those instead of looking aaaall the way down to the digits column

    2009-08-10 10:20:40.0

    oooh... I like that theory...

    2009-08-11 01:41:16.0

For me it's worse.  I can remember most of the songs I hear these days as they were by the original singers/groups...

    2009-08-12 08:50:57.0

I've just had a quick glimpse at the ABC list.  I see that the  No.3 Buckley song Hallelujah is a cover version of Cohens original.  Also Buckley appears several times as do others.  You'd think that a top 100 would produce a lot more variety, or at least I'd have thought so.

    2009-08-12 08:58:31.0

    Not when it's crowd sourced...

    :P

    2009-08-12 11:34:20.0

HAHA - two words to end so many things in todays world: "crowd sourced" ;)

    2009-08-12 21:24:44.0

Now that is just plain ridiculous.

    2009-08-12 21:53:56.0

I suspect it's just a bit of fun that oneXP

    2009-08-12 21:57:12.0

Are we to assume that, by that comment, you don't think the ABC list was a bit of fun?

    2009-08-13 03:59:49.0

From what I saw they took it very seriously

    2009-08-13 04:29:23.0

I see that the  No.3 Buckley song Hallelujah is a cover version of Cohens original.  Also Buckley appears several times as do others.

I wonder if he had his time again he would forsake 1 or 2 of those top 100's and gone to those swimming lessons as a youngster and still be alive.

    2009-08-13 07:30:09.0

But then I suppose he would also have to have gone to the avoiding heroin in most situation classes too.

    2009-08-13 07:31:04.0

    LOL!

    Terrible...

    2009-08-13 07:31:15.0

Maybe the swimming lesson he missed was the one where they point out the dangers of heroin and swimming in the same week.

    2009-08-13 07:31:59.0

Well, it saved us a few comeback shows....

    :P

    2009-08-13 07:32:40.0

Unfortunately for Jeff the Riptides comeback gigs and album of 1987 were called "Resurface". He'll have to think of something else.

    2009-08-13 07:38:52.0

It might have been better if he'd done the swimming, without the lessons, and drowned when he was a kid.

It would have saved a bit of my time, I wouldn't have had to waste it listening to him singing.

    2009-08-14 04:16:20.0

    hahahahah

    Oh dear

    2009-08-14 06:19:25.0

Ahem... is this thing on... I keep talking and nobody seems to be able to hear me.... It's almost like I'm not even here... I'm trying to tell them that this was a vote for the "favourite" songs of all time.  Beatles is under-represented because it is a youth radio network, so it appeals to the 15 - 30 age bracket (which I don't fit in to) and while the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, David Bowie and Pink Floyd were all infuential, it's what people are considering their favourite now.  And if anybody else wants to complain, I'll be listening to Khe Sanh... Are you sure it's on?

    2009-08-15 00:49:10.0

    Is what on?

    2009-08-15 02:42:39.0

I'm sure there is a post one above yours Andro...

    2009-08-15 04:17:05.0

Oh, is he talking about Tangler being switched on?

Well it's on all the time, (apart from when deezee breaks it)

I can see what Puppy's problem is though, he says "I keep talking and nobody seems to be able to hear me". Well as there is no audio on tangler, he will have to post his thoughts so we can read them..(like he just did).....(if you can understand this, will you please explain it to me)
