I've been in a pissy mood since yesterday, so decided to go get me some chocolates to see if they'll help...

I just had one....  don't feel all that different

And then I come across these -

    The world's most expensive chocolates

DeLafee’s Swiss chocolate pralines are covered with 24 carat edible
gold leaf hand-applied to each chocolate. Not surprisingly, there’s no
economy pack, with the Intimacy Box costing US$36.90 and containing two
pralines, while the celebration Box of eight is US$98.40. Why is the
gold edible? All gold is apparently edible, being totally safe when
ingested and famous for its non-allergenic properties (otherwise it
wouldn’t be used in tooth fillings).

Wouldn't that set you into a depression?!

    :O

    2007-02-26 16:55:55.0

    mmmmmmmm........ brownie with hazelnuts......

they can keep the gold dust

    2007-02-26 18:25:36.0

apparently gold dust was ingested in the ancient times to promote youth and vitality...it's also part of some ayurveda thingy...

    2007-02-26 18:27:27.0

    yeah, I read that too....

they just wanted to have their gold and eat it

    2007-02-26 18:29:41.0

Makes a very good antiseptic but rather expensive. Silver in colloidal form is the affordable alternative.

    2007-02-26 18:29:46.0

they just wanted to have their gold and eat it

    ^ nice.

    2007-02-26 18:30:15.0

Isn't salt an antiseptic? Won't that do?

    2007-02-26 18:31:22.0

these days gold nanoparticles are used to detect and treat cancer.:)

    2007-02-26 18:31:49.0

yep....that's the latest thing going on...not sure how effective it's going to be though....quantum dots (qdots) are fast replacing them as more suitable nanoparticles...pretty amazing stuff is happening.

    2007-02-26 18:33:58.0

So gold is attracted to cancer?

    2007-02-26 18:35:30.0

no but it can detect slight changes in DNA structure which can lead to cancerous growth...that's putting it as simply as possible

    2007-02-26 18:37:49.0

    Interesting.....

    2007-02-26 18:39:05.0

I was watching a cooking program about chocolate the other day and she spent ages making a white chocolate torte thing. She had the white chocolate shavings thing going on for the top and then said; "now I'm going add some gold leaf, its 18 carat gold you know" and I thought to myself, "Why?" It looked a bit silly. Like some gold scrap of paper screwed up on top. And then I wondered what it would cost...

You have gone some way to answering my qn!

    2007-02-26 19:15:08.0

Finally, what I've been saying for ages is confirmed

    UK chocs are the BEST!!!

I could do with some English Kit Kat:(

    2007-07-11 19:58:07.0

I like our Cadbury bars (Aust.) better than the UK ones.  They taste sweeter to me.  I'll be a traitor to the USA and say that Hershey Chocolates suck.  Too bitter and too hard, like plastic.  Just don't tell my wife I said that as she's from Pennsylvania.

    2007-07-11 20:33:30.0

    2007-07-11 20:35:51.0

English Cadbury's taste so much better than the aussie choc - fact!

    2007-07-11 20:37:15.0

They mentioned in the article that Canadian chockies are better than US ones.  I agree, and if you're in Vancouver check out Purdy's Chocolates (kinda like Darrell Lea over here, but better).  Their chockie/hazelnut hedgehogs rock!

    2007-07-11 20:37:22.0

    Double Deckers - Mmmmmmmmmmmm

    2007-07-11 20:37:46.0

    2007-07-11 20:38:22.0

Our Crunchie Bars are better, and bigger that UK!

    2007-07-11 20:39:00.0

any english choc beats us/aussie ones hands down

    2007-07-11 20:39:02.0

Have you tried them back to back?  Get a bag of Maltesers from UK and here.  Aussie ones are way better.

    2007-07-11 20:39:59.0

    like not malteasers....

    2007-07-11 20:40:16.0

Too bad.  There used to be a UK food store in Skygarden Mall.  I'll see if they have any UK chockies that are directly compareable.

    2007-07-11 20:41:04.0

Sorry but UK chocs are better than Aussies -  Creamier by a long way. Galaxy Choc is the Sunday Roast of Chocolate

    2007-07-11 20:44:28.0

    2007-07-11 20:44:33.0

Bought a few of these when I was in Vancouver recently. A PB Kit-Kat.  They're great.

    2007-07-11 20:45:04.0

My Turn (Join in Dek) UGH!  I hate fruit flavours with chockies.  Hurl! Barf!   Wretch!

    2007-07-11 21:03:40.0

yes agreed, but Terry's pull it off - trust me

    2007-07-11 21:04:34.0

    XP

    2007-07-11 21:04:45.0

nup.... I've tried it..... not too good

    2007-07-11 21:04:49.0

Keep it pure and simple I sez

    2007-07-11 21:05:04.0

    oh disappointing........

    2007-07-11 21:05:09.0

How about those Lindt balls......they are sooo good

    2007-07-11 21:05:35.0

    Those that look like sweets?

    2007-07-11 21:05:58.0

I'm skeptical.  No fruit for me (he said whilst eating a banana).  Dek's right.  chocky, maybe nuts, and that's it. Just say no to nasty fruit.

    2007-07-11 21:06:19.0

yeah wrapped in red - the inside is like melt in the mouth time

    2007-07-11 21:06:36.0

I tried it once... I think it was ok

    2007-07-11 21:07:01.0

I'm off to have an orange now.... pure real simple orange

When in Vancouver area try Rogers' Chocolates (Victoria but  they have an outlet at Whistler and I think  they might have a shop in Vancouver in Kerrisdale as well)...expensive but oh so good.)

Sweet and creamy centres smothered in bittersweet chocolate. A flavour for every wish list.

Victoria Creams and Squares Made in Victoria, BC since 1885, our cream-filled confections made us famous. Each Victoria Cream is hand-wrapped with care and bursting with one of 21 mouth-watering flavours, including Blueberry, Caramel, Cherry, and Vanilla. Best of all, you can mix and match to create your own selection of tastes. Our Empress Squares are filled with soft English caramel and roasted almonds while our chocolate-covered brittle mast be tasted to be believed.

Enough for me to break my own no fruit rule... but I do tend to enjoy the non fruit ones a bit more...Creams offered - Blueberry, Caramel, Cherry, Chocolate, Chocolate Nut, Coconut, Coffee, Lemon, Maple, Maple Nut, Orange, Peach, Peppermint, Raspberry, Raspberry Vanilla Swirl (CBCF), Rum, Strawberry, and Vanilla.

As these things happen, I've come across this by chance:

"The new candies get their names from things people exclaim,
like, "Bonkers!" or "Nerds!" And I got to thinking...wouldn't
it be funny if they based a line of candy on something my dad
exclaims frequently? I don't know about you, but I'd get a kick
out of candy called, 'Where's the Damned Scotch!'"

    2007-07-11 23:13:18.0

I'll definitely check them out next trip.

    2007-07-11 23:16:31.0

I agree with Clay Jnr - Terry's Chocolate Orange is DIVINE as is Galaxy.

I also loved Albert Hein Superfine Milk Chocolate when I was in NL. I got very fat on it and had it almost every day!

But. An Aussie Crunchie bar is also FAB.

I'm writing in CAPS cos I am starving.:P

    It's dinner time...

    2007-07-12 00:57:33.0

Damn you all, now I want chocolate but I don't have any

except the chocolate chips in the cookies..

I'm gonna go get some cookies now

    2007-07-12 09:22:10.0

    I'm hungry....

    time for a coffee!

    2007-07-12 17:58:33.0

Mrs Dent tells me that chocolate is better than sex.  Apparently you can enjoy chocolate when it's soft.  I'm not sure what she means, the old tart...!

    2007-07-14 14:31:45.0

    hahahahahah

    2007-07-14 21:39:08.0

My absolute favorite chocolate is Toblerone.  Something about the size of the bar you can get in those little triangles of goodness, mmmmmmm!

    2007-07-30 17:32:37.0

I named my dog Toby, after Toblerone.

    2007-07-30 17:33:14.0

    Cool name!

    2007-07-30 17:34:28.0

The toblerone's are cheap here, too.  I like Cadbury Whole Hazelnut bars best.  The Leonidas chockies from Belgium are pretty good too, but very expensive.  There's a store on Madison Ave. in NYC, and one here in Sydney.

    2007-07-30 17:35:20.0

My favs - kitcats, crunch bars, fun size snickers from the fridge, the cocunut balls sort of like ferror rocherers.

    Hmmm.

Now a days I need a milk shake to eat a whole bar. Or glass of milk.

    2007-07-30 17:39:00.0

I really miss reese's peanut butter cups, those are pure joy I guess Aussie don't like the peanut butter thing:(

    2007-07-30 17:43:46.0

Well, you know know where to get em!;)

(At an Asian grocery shop nonetheless - bless globalisation!)

    2007-07-30 20:49:44.0

I work at an asian grocery shop. Don't sell Toblerones D:

    2007-07-30 20:50:29.0

well I guess they do in Oz, crazy how the world works

    2007-07-30 20:52:43.0

Crazy how elevators work. a 3/4inch cable holding up 2,500 lbs. scary!

    2007-07-30 20:53:22.0

Okay my flatmate and I went on a hunt yesterday and found the place in Ranwick that sells Reese's Peanut Butter Cups!!! It's called Chocol-ART!  I am in chocolate and Peanut Butter heaven as we speak!

    2007-08-01 17:09:38.0

    dek's worst nightmare is Kaz's heaven:P

    2007-08-01 18:16:35.0

I think  you have something against chocolate dek! no tim tams and now no peanut butter cup!!!!

    2007-08-01 18:17:52.0

Nup... the only thing I have something against is peanut butter!

    2007-08-01 18:18:44.0

Its all about Cadbury Black Forest, you can only get it in the big bars though thus the kilos pile themselves on.........

    2007-08-01 20:07:54.0

Lindt dark choc is just heaven in choc form so very good

    2007-08-01 20:12:10.0

I had some Lindt dark 85% the other day. It was intense. Awesome with strong black coffee.

    2007-08-01 20:23:50.0

I can never get my head round dark choc - never enjoyed its bitter taste....Frown

    2007-08-01 20:28:32.0

YES! that is the best choc ever and your so right about the strong black coffee part, it's terrific

    2007-08-01 20:28:44.0

I can use one of my fave words to describe that advert : "Boulderdash"

    2007-08-01 21:14:02.0

balderdash?  -- as are all 'speciaty' diets Clay... the joke was back to dekrazee1's well known positioning of hating peanut butter !

    2007-08-01 21:35:41.0

Where's the growlery when you need one?

    2007-08-01 21:51:27.0

I think Ferrero rocher is one of the most enjoyable. But i dont eat them so often because 3 balls of them = a meal here in Bangkok

    2007-08-01 21:58:34.0

Yeah, I agree... they're outrageously expensive, tho I really like em too

    2007-08-01 22:17:00.0

I haven't had them... but I've seen several reports (including Food & Wine Magazine) that suggests this Tuscany brand might be the World's Finest Chocolate:

    2007-08-01 22:42:47.0

Is it? Where can I find one?

    2007-08-01 22:46:39.0

That depends where you are doesn't it? Smile Your profile doesn't show location... I haven't seen them at all here in Canada... they are available in the US (US web has a store locator) or you can look for information on their Italian web site

    2007-08-01 22:50:31.0

    Purdy's Hedgehogs rock!

    2007-08-01 23:32:44.0

    That they do.

And they are far,far too close to home.

    2007-08-01 23:33:36.0

Yes, but y'all also get real cadbury hazelnut bars, not the almond crap in the States.

    2007-08-01 23:34:44.0

    yes, another weakness.

We actually had a hazenut tree in the backyard where I grew up... still have a weakness for them with or without the Cadbury wrapping !

    2007-08-01 23:36:15.0

I just had a bit of  Darrell Lea hazelnut bar at lunch.  Wonderful stuff.  Store is even purple, like Purdy's, and about as good.

    2007-08-01 23:37:51.0

    Next time I'm down Smile

    2007-08-01 23:40:36.0

I just got reminded of these.... Dad used to get em for us from Hawaii when we were young. I'd say these are my most most most fav

    2007-08-01 23:42:33.0

I also like Guylian, the sea shell chocolate. I wish they put macadamia nut inside

    2007-08-02 00:27:04.0

ohh seashells they were always so good! I haven't had them in ages

    2007-08-02 02:15:22.0

there was one time I ate them the whole box and finally i read the expiry date, i was expired for almost a year! But it tasted terrific. Good quality choc.

    2007-08-02 02:36:14.0

I've heard that working night-shift at Nestle can be extremely lucrative.  You can make a mint after eight...

Having said that, dark chocholate wafers with a mint centre by Bendicks are just the ticket to finish off a nice meal with a good quality Espresso.

    2007-08-02 02:46:43.0

    test

    2007-08-02 06:36:32.0

Chocoholics, this might be just what you have been waiting for:

    Chocomap

You put in your location, and it gives you the locations of chocolate places near you!

    2007-08-23 20:31:00.0

Looks like there are only two in Sydney... one in Paddington, and one near Circular Quay...

    2007-08-23 20:31:44.0

This is fab!!! though I wish there were more near me!!  It is amazing how I am still craving chocolate even with my stomach turning.   I guess nothing will keep me away!

    2007-08-23 20:37:04.0

I've maintained that chocolate settles your tummy since my younger motion sickness days

    2007-08-23 20:39:52.0

hmmm maybe I'll just grab me some on my way home then and test your theory, or you will just go on the list of Tangler people who have made me sick:)
