Most things eventually settle out to stable - either "still life"s (static unchanging things) or "gliders" (things moving in a predictable way). The fun ones are the ones that start with something super-simple seeming, but take ages to go stable. I think they have also found starting states that can be shown to never stabilise, but those are mostly computer derived (or possibly based on Turing machines for non-halting programs), so not anything you'd want to spend your time working out.
Actually, I had plenty of those never stabilising ones.... It took a while for me to realise the pattern

I signed up back when Facebook was a university only thing. Back then it wasn't stupid. I reactivated my account recently, but I don't use it for more than keeping up with my family, who I don't see much even though we live in the same house.

In other timewasting news, Phage Wars and its sequel are a lot like that bubble game from a while back... and yet somehow seem to be quite a bit easier once you get into the right mindset (as far as I can tell, that being the "spread, outnumber, sudden rush" mindset)
I think I prefer the first of the two... the second one added a geneticsy bit to fiddle with your stats, and some stat-effecting special cells, but the genetics never feels like it's having vast amounts of influence, and it adds unnecessary complications. The first one let you choose whether you want to be fast, strong or agile by the choice of phage colour, and that worked just fine.

I've turned into Sir M
I just beat the last test of #2 without any genes equipped. I think largely because it gives you a white-blood cell at the start, which soaks up a whole lot of attack without it really having any effect.
The key tactic is always the same... take control of the x2 reproduction/defence/strength cells as quickly as possible. If you've got those, the normal cells don't stand a chance; the reproduction ones will keep up an unending stream of your guys, the defence ones give you a safe place to retreat to if things turn against you and the strength ones let you punch hard when you need to take something quickly.

I'd forgotten how slow moving Nano War is... makes holding a position more important (need a base to attack from, need to prevent the other guy from doing so) but also makes it easier to react to what's happening. I think I prefer phage wars... if the stats stuff and special cells from phage wars 2 could get a better interface (and your choice of stats be made more decisive) that'd be about perfect to my mind.
Yeah, I like Phage wars the best for the same reasons.
The interface of Phage 2 was sooooo annoying. If I wasn't determined to get to the end of it...

(The first levels aren't too bad, but the later ones take some thinking... I've been pretending to myself that it's enough like computing to be vaguely relevant to what I'm studying, that way I don't feel so bad when a few hours I had planned to do work in slip by while playing)
If you get into that one and want to compare notes (amount of time/number of pieces taken, or discussing designs), I'm working on the efficiency of some of the earlier ones. Things I realised later one are helping make the first ones quicker and use less pieces.
