WHat do you want most and why ??

    2007-03-29 02:27:51.0

Wii because it's really fun and it will still be fun in a couple of years.

In 2 years PS3 or Xbox360 will be oldies. And the games and usability is less fun on my opinion.

I like game console where I can play with my 8 years old cousin and my 50 years old uncle and everybody has fun;) The Wii does that.:)

    2007-03-29 03:50:20.0

I don't know. On newer hardware (ie, biger TVs with HD capability) the Wii looks pretty bletcherous.  I bought one and I've played it for about 2 hours (I've had it for a few months now) and I just get so tired of looking at the games.  Heck, even PS2 games that have come out lately look better.

My vote's for the 360. It has the best interface and for the time being the best games (I have great hopes for the PS3, but there's just not enough compelling content out for it yet)

    2007-03-29 08:21:24.0

The Ps3 is also wildly expensive. My vote is for the PS3 because of the Cell processors. Considering that quad-core is still only new and PS3 already has 6, It could outlast 2 generations of upcoming XBoxs?

    2007-03-29 12:17:13.0

I love my Wii.  The sports games that come with it are loads of fun.  My sweetie and I have spent many hours playing tennis and golf.  The Wii Play (the small games that come with a second remote) have been universally panned, except I quite like some of them.  Pool (balls and cue, not swimming) is good, and cow-racing is good for a laugh.  Duck hunting was fun until my 18 year old son demonstrated to everyone's satisfaction that his reflexes are an order of magnitude faster than his parents'.

We have a small TV, at least in terms of pixels, which makes Internet access problematic, but the weather forecast is useful.  The news feed seems boring to me because it's mostly text without much in the way of images, but  it would certainly satisfy a news junkie.

I agree with Thorne that if you're looking for the best imagery or the fastest processor, the Wii isn't for you.

    2007-03-29 13:04:25.0

Don't get me wrong. I'm not so obsessed about eye-candy on a console that I'll drop games because they don't look good. (Heck, I replayed System Shock 2 a few months ago).  It's just that with some setups, the lack of anti-aliasing is so noticable and distracting that it breaks the immersion of the game.  Again, tough to judge because I don't think there's anything out there currently that even approaches what the Wii could do graphically. Maybe we'll see some improvement in that regard in the coming months.

I'd also like to point out that the PS3 now has a Folding@Home client available through the ribbon-menu-thing.  That's something that is a plus for it in my books.

    2007-03-29 15:34:22.0

I have a Wii.  I was going to buy a PS3, but system shortages drove me to a Wii (weird because Wii's are now impossible to get, but PS3's abound).

    2007-03-30 06:33:23.0

I wanted the PS3 so I could put Linux on it and play with the processors....maybe compile some good SMP programs on it...

    2007-03-30 06:34:08.0

But the Wii is fun to play....when I have time.  My whole family enjoys it.  The PS3 would have just been for me.

    2007-03-30 06:34:34.0

IT's the 360 for me all the way.... media extender functionality to show my photo's and pplay my music though the 42" flat screen in the lounge sells it for me!

    2007-03-30 06:41:32.0

The Wii games look like fun - and it might have a higher WAF (wife acceptance factor) - so I might see about getting one later in the year..... work it as a part of the health kick I keep meaning to go on....:)

    2007-03-30 06:44:25.0

I think, to really choose which is the better platform, you have to take into consideration what the target market is for all 3 competetors. You also have to think of what each console is trying to achieve in regards to features and functionality of all of these consoles.

Personally, I would choose the Wii FTW (for the win..) Nintendo has always been an interactive company that targets everyone from pre-schoolers to people that are older than my mother. The games might not be as flashy and graphically pleasing as the 360 and PS3, but the interactivity of the games is amazing. I could go into detail about everything that makes it unique in comparison to other gaming consoles and what makes it the 'true' next-gen console.. but I am sure most of you have tried one for yourselves by now. If not, I will gladly discuss.

I think the real battle is between 360 and PS3. In which case, I would gladly take 360. Hrmm... Gears of War, the Halo trilogy, Xbox Live, Forza... once again, I could go on. But, need I say more?

In my honest opinion, the PS3 has lost the battle a long time ago, and is being out-sold by most consoles on the market today, including the PS2 (I am pretty sure.) That doesnt say very much for the future of the console... which, no one that I know has any idea about either. To at least catch up in the race, PS3 is going to have to step it up in a big way. Any ideas?

I am not even going to start up the arguement in this discussion about HD-DVD and Blu-ray... we can save that for another topic, I am sure.

    2007-04-16 09:44:27.0

You said you're leaving the HD-DVD/Blu-ray argument out after I already started typing this.. I decided to continue

I think PS3 priced themselves out of the market by trying to be a cheap blu-ray player - until blu-ray is much more common its not that much of a draw to buy it, and when it is that common there'll be a cheap-ass player made in China or similar that does the job a lot better because its designed solely for that purpose

    2007-04-16 09:48:36.0

The fact that it is a cheap Blu-ray player would be the only reason I would ever consider buying a PS3. But then, I would have to buy a whole bunch of Blu-ray movies. I don't own a HD television or a monitor with HDMI hookups (which is $100 extra for the cable anyways) so I don't really see what the difference would be anyways. I will stick to my DVD player and reliable DVDs. Thanks, but no thanks Sony. I would rather just fork out and buy the external HD-DVD attachment for the 360 (which will also work on my PC) if I wanted to step into this new medium generation. Even still, I can wait until the hype settles down and the price drops for both. I just don't see the purpose yet. I also don't feel that all of this new technology is very practical or affordable for your average movie watcher. I mean, sure, maybe Sony took the approach of having an 'affordable' Blu-ray player. But its not just the player that makes the video high definition... it also needs a compatible television with the proper cables to display 'true' high definition. This gets a little pricy.

    2007-04-16 10:45:29.0

Opera just released a new version of the browser for the Wii, and the interface is quite a bit nicer.  They also added a portal of sorts (per country) with some recommended sites.

I continue to enjoy playing Wii Sports tennis, and my 13-year old niece likes the cow-racing game as much as I do, so although the Wii may not appeal to hard-core gamers, it does appeal to a wide age range.

    2007-04-18 07:19:27.0

Ironically, the XBox 360 tops my chart
    (I'm a Linux/Open Source fan)

    2007-04-18 11:21:07.0

Hmm...well, at first look, I didn't think the Wii had a chance in hell. After playing it, however, I think it's wonderful. My absolute 'drooler' would be a PS3, but I am still recovering from sticker price shock. The Xbox is also nice, but I am not really in love with it - as of yet. So, after all that babbling, I'd say Mii wants a Wii. The price is right and I won't have to give my wallet a turnicate in order to enjoy it, or buy additional reasonably priced games.

    2007-04-18 13:22:52.0

I had a PS1 but it (and all my cd's were) stolen the week before I emigrated to Sydney.  Then I bought a PS2 but it (and all my replacement cd's) were stolen from my house in Sydney.  Now I can't be bothered any more.

    2007-04-18 18:02:05.0

    Thats some tough luck.. haha.

I still own a PS1 and the only game I really ever play is Parasite Eve. Great game. PS1 had its good titles.

I never totally indulged into the PS2.. I just waited for the XBOX.

    2007-04-18 18:43:54.0

    Never owned any of these....

I do the smart thing - go to other people's homes and play there:P

Marty once lent me his PS2 when he went away on holiday, and on the first night, I sat up looking for all the hidden packages in Grand Theft....  all night...

Second night, once again, sat up all night playing the darn thing.

I get so obsessive with these games, I doubt I'll ever own one of my own.

I once played Street fighter all night till I had  huge blisters on both my thumbs

If I were religious, and I'm  not, I'd think these things were the devil's work

    2007-04-18 19:00:36.0

I have a Mattel Intellivision(The underdog to the Atari), SNES, Nintedo 64, and a Playstation 2. I really want to get the Xbox 360.

    2007-04-18 21:36:40.0

Unreal... I mean I knew the PS3 sucked pretty bad... but that just takes it to an entirely different level.

    2007-04-28 11:24:25.0

So does that mean Sony's moving away from the games hardware market? 'cause I don't think I know of any "software" (ie games) made by Sony...

Correct me if I'm wrong but they don't do the games, they do the console.. (unlike Nintendo - they make a console then have a crapload of exclusives because they make the games too - and they do it well too XP Microsoft do software too of course, they do the hell out of software, I just can't think of as many Microsoft-made 360 games as I can Ninento-made Wii games)

    2007-04-28 15:04:07.0

Well, Nintendo are killing 3rd party developers.

    2007-04-29 00:36:38.0

Funny thing.. I thought it was lack of 3rd party support that killed the Gamecube not the other way round

But I tend not to follow the business-y side of the games industry ;)

    2007-04-29 03:13:27.0

I just had to have my 360 replaced at Best Buy today at lunch... red lights of death, but besides the fact it is prone to sudden death I love it!! Live Marketplace is really a great idea executed perfectly to me!

    2007-05-15 15:04:24.0

Is there a reliability issue with the 360s?

    2007-05-15 18:19:45.0

@dekrazee1: Xbox360 is the most unreliable piece of hardware ever made unfortunately. However, the games and services for it are really amazing!! Definately my favorite console ever, but make sure you purchase the store replacement plan cause it is pretty much gaurenteed to die in about a year=D

    2007-05-15 20:17:10.0

    Oh dear!!!

    That's appalling!

    2007-05-15 20:23:00.0

I love my Wii.  Wouldn't trade it for any other console right now.  Haven't had this much fun with games in a long while.  I like the innovation and can't wait for the controls to just keep getting better.

I would get a PS3 or Xbox360.  I would prefer a PS3 although I had an Xbox last gen.  The whole hd thing turns me off, becuase I don't have an HD television.  I have seen a PS3 and 360 on Standard sets and the 360 looks much better.  A lot of the PS3 text is almost unbearable.

    2007-05-16 02:32:19.0

Wow.... I would have  never thought of that.

I just assume that any console would work on any TV

    2007-05-16 02:36:00.0

Oh well, looks like I'm the only one who's getting a PS3. Purchasing decisions for consoles are made by a 10 year old in my house and it's the promise of sequels for favourite  PS2 titles, like Ratchet and Clank, plus 'Home' and Little Big Planet that have swung it.

It also gives me an excuse to get a new telly .

    2007-05-16 13:35:59.0

I agree with ninewhereman. The fact that the Wii doesn't need an HD screen is great for those of us without one, in addition to the fact that the Wii's awesome. If I had to get one, Wii would be it.

    2007-05-22 04:14:49.0

Got a Wii since mid-december. I really don't regret it. We don't play it very much when we are alone. But when friends come at home, it's always on. And even my daughter loves playing bowling (She's 2 years young).

    2007-05-22 07:06:48.0

I've found that these games can be very good ice breakers, esp if you have the right ppl around

    2007-05-22 17:19:47.0

We have two Wiis (two Wii?) in our house (there's six uni students in this house) and they're bloody great to play on together. I want a 360 for my serious gaming though, no doubt about that. PS3 just doesn't stand up to scrutiny in my eyes, and I never liked Sony's gameplan for the console anyway (never even owned a Sony console, in truth, I just don't rate them).

    2007-05-23 16:14:33.0

The Wii's destiny is to end up in a household like yours..... I can just imagine how fun that'd be!

    2007-05-23 18:07:17.0

i was going to get a wii but i got sooooo fed up of waiting that i bought a 360 which is legend as well but am getting wii soon hopefully

    2007-05-31 04:01:03.0

Out of all of them? None. It is (for me- not to bash console lovers) a waste of money, I would much rather have a really nice computer, and invest my money, and actually have an active life.XP  500-900 bucks can easially go to WAY better things.  Like gas for my car. @_@

    2007-06-06 21:24:05.0

After a quick read thru the comments, it seems I am the only one with a PS3.

    It's good.

    It does lots of stuff.

I have no idea how to use it. I don't use it much.

It has a user menu as long as your arm and is so complex that the manual for use is actually on-line, you have to set it up first to then get it to explain itself. And when you do, you find that it doesn't do all that much. Yet. Though Sony do keep sending through upgrades.

Not much is supported. There is only Casino Royale on Blu-Ray and the games, as well as expensive are few.

Blu-Ray picture and sound quality are outstanding though. and it does play most "out of area" DVDs, so you can go shopping for them on your holidays with little fear.

It promises on-line gaming but offers none (so far as I can tell). You can use the "shop" to buy cheap games which are then stored on the 60GB drive, but they aren't much nor many and often just marginally upgraded version of old PS2 games. Nothing spectacular.

It keeps losing touch with the wireless network. Like a very old transistor radio you have to shift it abaout a bit to get a conection and maintain it above 50% connectivity.

    But it is Bluetooth capable.

When surfing the net it's constantly asking if I want to run plug-ins the answer to which is always "Yes! you stupid piece of s**t!"

For what it costs it comes with only one handset controller.

It has trouble recognising some formats, like for MP3s .

    Have I made a mistake?

Or will things improve? Will it get the support the original PS2 didn't get?

    2007-06-10 02:23:11.0

    hahahah
    I think I'm glad I don't have one!

    2007-06-10 08:16:52.0

    Can I be you caffy?XP

    2007-06-10 08:23:42.0

You'd have to give up the PS3..... are you sure you could do that?
    Hmmm?

    2007-06-10 08:26:42.0

Hmmm. I'll give it some thought. Have you got $1000?

    2007-06-10 08:31:50.0

If you wanna be caffy, you've gotta give up having $1000 too....;)

    2007-06-10 08:34:25.0

But I already did that. Sony have it now.

    2007-06-10 08:35:19.0

Holy crap! It cost that much!?!

    2007-06-10 08:36:27.0

Wow..... Excuse me for saying this - that's nuts!

    2007-06-10 08:39:47.0

I think the Xbox & PS3 are ideal consoles for intermediate-advanced gamers.. by this i mean those who are comfortable enough to have been playing console games before and for those who appreciate great graphics but Wii is great for everyone.. family and friends especially.. it gets everyone involved.. like what dek said, it can be a great ice- breaker

    2007-06-10 08:41:44.0

i think my boss bought ours (with 4 game remotes and 2 more games) for around S$700.. thats about A$537 (according to currency converter):P

    2007-06-10 08:43:31.0

The thing is for a time I really wanted to buy a Wii!!! Now I think I should've.

    Blokes eh?

    2007-06-10 08:43:53.0

    hahaha You said it!!

    2007-06-10 08:48:17.0

" Excuse me for saying this - that's nuts!"

    You are excused.

    It is.

    2007-06-10 08:50:12.0

    hahahaha

    Regretting the purchase are we?

    2007-06-10 08:51:30.0

haha we are always finding any reason to buy something new;)

    2007-06-10 08:54:56.0

But I really wanted a Wii, I don't know what posessed me. The family had a say, but I'm normally right about this so I would have had the last word - after I sold it to them (haha)

But still I had to buy the "Cool Tool"

    2007-06-10 08:58:08.0

In truth, don't get me wrong, it's actually really great (or,it will be when I find the time to understand all of it properly) but it's still an infant when it comes to any real selection of software.

    2007-06-10 09:02:52.0

    Oh okay....

    2007-06-10 09:04:58.0

yea that i agree.. in the mean time you can always busy yourself with the exsiting ones till the new software comes out

    2007-06-10 09:45:55.0

I think the thing I'm going to have to do is hardwire it to the phone (to get past the wireless problem) and get a key board for it to surf the net easier.

Here's a weird thing about it ('weird' as in pointless)  you can play PS3 games by wireless on your PSP, but why not just play them on your PS3? Or am I missing some advantage that this incurrs?

    2007-06-10 10:00:25.0

    *shrug*

    Coolness factor?

    2007-06-10 10:01:57.0

I hope that's not all. I must have missed something. The only advantage I can see is that it frees up the TV it's connected to.

    2007-06-10 10:15:03.0

    hello

    2007-06-21 08:13:15.0

    Anti-Wii song

    2007-07-18 21:23:11.0

I hate to admit this but I have got an Xbox.  I thought that buying it would re-kindle some of the youthful verve in those boring winter evenings.  It came with a whole pile of toys and games (there was a special offer).  For a while it was a fair distraction.  I even managed to invade Germany and eradicate Nazi-ism eqipped with a first aid kit and a 9mm pistol.  I even had the pleasure of having hi-tech fencing competitions with others using the on-line games servers - although i could never get to grips with the idea of having a nuclear powered sword (or something of that ilk) and grenades which totally destroyed the immediate environment and everything living around me - and without losing a life.  I am still wondering if I should go into space and conquer some distant worlds and then take some R&R surfing on the Californian coastline on Tsunami sized waves.

Anyway, despite the fact that I haven't switched it on for about 9 months you should be warned that, with a bit of notice, I can re-emerge as a pretty dangerous character and should not be messed with!!!

    2007-07-19 01:23:39.0

:) Love your descriptions of the games!

    2007-07-19 01:27:36.0

    x-box 360 is the bomb

    2007-07-20 01:29:19.0

Ps3... Sony is the hardware creators.. let microsoft stick with the software.

    2007-07-20 02:13:48.0

give me microsoft and pc's over apple macs any days

    2007-07-20 02:19:28.0

give me microsoft and pc's over apple macs any days

I agree, but the topic is about games consoles :P

    2007-07-20 02:48:48.0

I'm still supporting the PS3 for it's great hardware, and free online service rather than having to pay. Microsoft are ruining everything by making all of us pay $2 and $5, etc. at MS Live in order to get content that would normally be included for free! pathetic.

    2007-07-21 04:45:46.0

Xbox 360 for one overriding reason - Halo 3:)

    2007-07-21 18:00:33.0

I like the 360 because of the media centre integration.

    2007-07-21 18:03:02.0

And the PS3 games mostly suck....:)

    2007-07-21 18:04:03.0

Wait for the XBOX 360 with the new 60 nanometer chip, thus avoiding the common 360 deaths of overheating. Don't go for the PS3 at all, it's not worth the money. Costs more than the 360, has way less games because no developer wants to develop for it and 360 graphics are even better than PS3 graphics on all the comparison screenshots. If you can spare the money, buy yourself a Wii, too. Harry Potter wand swinging and Star Wars lightsaber action (coming soon, confirmed) rocks!

    2007-07-24 19:32:06.0

    Wii all the way.

Oh, and by the way, Macs, Open Source, Ubuntu, etc ... just because I can post it here:)

    2007-07-24 21:23:29.0

In fact, here's Weewar on the Wii:

... sorry 'bout the crappy photo from my cell phone ...

    2007-07-24 21:47:13.0

    HAHAHAHAH

    That's great!!!

    2007-07-24 22:09:15.0

    A Wee on a Wii!!!

    2007-07-24 22:11:36.0

BTW, and for reasons unknown, Wii runs Opera ... which is not all that bad. Better than anything by Micro$oft I guess.

    2007-07-24 22:34:03.0

@ChrisColon... The XBOX360 graphics, compared to the PS3 are better, but not by much. This actually makes Sony's console a lot more respectable, because those are 3rd-generation games narrowly  beating 1st-generation games coming from the PS3... in essence, as time goes on the PS3 will slowly, but surely start whipping the 360's ass.

    2007-07-25 09:09:41.0

but I'll stick to my PC for now, thanks

    2007-07-25 09:09:53.0

does anyone here actually think the whole ps3 Blueray concept will take off and be really popular or is it going to be a niche market kind of thing?

    2007-07-26 01:25:54.0

I haven't seen HD movies yet, but DVD already has an amazing quality and I don't know if I would really HAVE to have an even better quality when watching a movie.

    2007-07-26 04:57:43.0

    PS3 hands down.

(but i need a wii for parties)

    why?

    PS3:
    you can install linux.
lush lush graphics and huge range of games (coming).
blueray DVD - need a HD panel display to appreciate it, but damn, it's incredible.  bigger than the shift from VHS to DVD.
simple to use and very powerful home music, cinema, browser, photo package for the loungeroom.

    Wii
multiplayer games for when you have drinks with friends.

    :)

    that's my call.

    2007-07-26 22:01:23.0

For me the Wii is worth the $250 just for the Wii Sports game... The tennis one is a great way to make and lose friends... It's a lot of fun.

    2007-07-26 22:05:53.0

The Wii does sound really fun.... I'd love to have a go

Wii Tennis is awesome. I love it.

I don't think you'll know about 360 or PS3 for a while, although Sony are more arrogant and Microsoft are more keen.

    I haven't played either actually....

What about the PS3 being the cheapest Blueray?

I bought the Brain Academy game for the Wii a few weeks ago, and it's a lot of fun for the sweetie and me.  Although, as usual, our 19-year-old son gets multiples of our scores, making us feel old and slow.

We've also been visited by younger kids, around 10 or 12 I think, who immediately take to the Wii games as well.  Loudly.

The problem I have found with the PS3 is that there are no really 'fun' games, or "party' games yet, that are dedicated to the PS3. Lots of on line stuff, but no personal communal stuff. No "twister". You can use PS2 games but then why the PS3 in this case?
