Weight lifting - barebells and / or machines
There are lots of ways to lift and methods/tools and programs.
Ask the questions you might have and we can work them together.

As I work with some friends and customers near the downtown mall I watch as our police parking buddies in their Parking Enforcement Chariots isue tickets and have cars towed I wonder how much easier it would be for folks if they walked/jogged, road bike or took the bus downtown.
There is a National Event created by Road Runers Club of America and can be found at http://www.rrca.org/programs/runatwork/
Here is some more detailed information on participating in the event. http://www.rrca.org/programs/runatwork/rawplanning.doc

I keep a modrate level of sanity as the result of some daily sweating. Some days I need more "medicine" and hit the road and the gym or trails.
As a bigger guy the activity also keeps me physically healthy and in the past helped offset the other bad habits I had.

We love Brad's show- How is Brad doing on the road?
can we go for a walk with Brad? During the week.
How about a live remote while out on the road. Have Tad /Jeff playing some great upbeat tunes and Brad out with a group walking around McIntire park or other fun place and giving some "play by play". Maybe Gill/Frannie or one of the Get Moving gang coaching.

Running with bad Knees ( or other leg problems)
As a football player I have a history of knee surgery ( 7 times) and have also been a runner for more than 20 years. I am always looking for the trick to allow me/help me run more and run regularly. ![]()
I have run several marathons and have found that my knees are in much better shape as a result of the running and activity. I hope to keep doing it and keep MY KNEES and help others overcome some leg issues.![]()

Most of my running life I hav gone out without music and enjoyed the world around me. On the raods it is usually safer to listen for traffic. Now that I have expanded my training and my plans to include more long runs may dig into some tunes to carry along.
I will probably load my files with tunes I used in the weight room when lifting in a past lifetime.
Lynyrd Skynyrd, Molly hatchet, Outlaws, Johnny Cash, The Who, The band, Credence..., Rolling Stones, Def Leppard,
Listening to The Corner106.1 I have heard a few newer rtists that I like and they may sneak into my narrow-minded playlist.

Motivation is very simple for me. I am out to have fun and expand my life through activity and set some goals for many aspects of my life.
I have some Goals that are SMART.
S- Specific (I will run a marathon)
M- Measured or Mapped ( I have a training plan mapped out to complete the 26 mile race)
A- Achivement is a challenge but not mundane (I will run 26 miles and I am 300 pounds)
R- Realistic ( I will run 26 miles= realistic I will win a marathon= not realistic)
T- Timed ( I will run the _____ Marathon on this date.)
Having the goals and a plan to follow is in getting my butt up and out.
Having a Good Plan to follow is a matter of finding an expert- Coach, book, website.

I like to spend a lot of time out side. Whether it is in the garden, walking in the woods or a 3 day weekend backpack trip.
I also enjoy hitting the gym and some of my faves are the rowing machine and stepmill for aerobic training and then a 45 minute circuit with the free weights. Usually pretty empty at ACAC as the machines with weights and pulleys are more popular.

Running Within by Jerry Lynch and Warren Scott.1999
Published by Human kinetics http://www.humankinetics.com and available at Amazon
Lots of great tools to improve the mental aspects of our runs and can be used for other life issus.
As a lifelong athlete I have seen the value of Visualizations(picturing my performance) and Affirmations ( self-talk in a positive present tense mode that prepare me for success)
With "my body" I can visualize and affirm winning the Kentucky Derby as a jockey but since I am kin to the horses ( and kinda slow!) it is not very realistic. Visualizing and Affirming running and completing a 26 mile race is within the realm of possibility. Winning the race..... Not really. I have read the book and applied the ideas to my workouts and life.

Cville Nutrition for the active...
My favorite places to shop for healthy stuff (DISCLAIMER- I am a Vegan- So look out)
In order of frequency-
1) Whole Foods - hopefully their move to Hydraulic Road will improve their inventory issues- Pretty good bulk selection but frequently out of popular items. been to their stores in NoVa and they are so much nicer than here.
2) Integral Yoga(Preston Ave) Covenient location- good supplements and pretty well stocked on some of the basics I need. Great bulk and frequent sales are convenient. Service is grat and very friendly.
3) C'ville Market- carlton rd- great selection of produce- friendly service
4) City Market - Saturdays and Wednesdays but only April-October
5) Harris Teeter- good produce section....terrible service
6) Rebeccas - don't care for the new store setup but they have good stuff
