  • Let the Free Market fight Climate Change

The Chancellor's doubling of air passenger duty following the
release of the Stern Review will have zero impact on the environment; it will do
nothing to encourage operators to be more efficient, and can be interpreted only
as yet another stealth tax. The fact that it was applied retrospectively to
people who had bought tickets suggests it was not designed to discourage
    flying.

I agree it will have zero impact. The only way I can see family is to fly. It's a necessity for me.

  • Martha Stewart

No. I'm not in the wrong group.;) Something has got me annoyed!

I have just had a quick look at the recent SMH, Good Weekend magazine. There is an article all about the Martha Stewart and the builders, KB.

They build homes based on Martha Stewart's style...

It's a beautiful new concept in homebuilding. And it's only from KB Home. We've partnered with leading lifestyle expert Martha Stewart to create high-quality homes inspired by her very own homes in New York, Connecticut and Maine.

Our Martha Stewart communities feature premier locations and wonderful amenities. Inside and out, you'll find unique Martha touches
like wainscoting, picture-frame molding, open shelving, landscaping
packages designed by Martha's personal gardener, and so much more. And
as with any KB home, you'll select your favorite design, homesite,
floor plan and customizing design options.

     etc... New Home Anyone?

veggies - we have tried the door-to-door delivery and it is quite good. We had a few problems though. We didn't always get what we asked for and the local wildlife would pilfer from the box while we slept (it was delivered at around 3am). I thought it was worthwhile though. The only thing is it's not organic so I've stopped doing it and now try and get to the local organic market once a week or Macro.

worms - worm farms are great. The plants love the poo and it cuts down on the vege and fruit scraps we throw away.

insulate - we were at a carpet shop yesterday finding a replacement for our hall. We are also in discussion about fitting carpet to two bedrooms for insulation purposes. It's freezing in winter and quite damp. We are just trying to get around the cost of carpeting two rooms! Yikes.

Cars - we only have one which I think is an achievement given we are a family of four and live 10 mins from Hornsby. I think giving a car up can only work if there are readily available alternatives. Eg. We had no need for a car in Amsterdam and if we wanted to go away for a weekend we just hired something. Green Wheels was also good for short city trips (Eg. We had friends who used GW when they needed to go pick up a Xmas tree from a nursery on the outskirts of the 'dam).

Flying - we fly a lot as our families live in Perth and the UK (we are in Sydney). Not sure how we could improve on that one.

Lights - I can't give up our  nice lighting. Sorry.

Water - we try our best. Never water the garden. Only plant water-wise stuff to replace the other varieties which are dying off. Use recycled water on lawn.

We are all trying hard I reckon...
