Hey guys check out this new group and their site COzero to see how you can do carbon off sets and reduce your carbon foot print.

My 1972 Land Rover leaves a hydrocarbon footprint wherever I park it.

sorry Ruski73 we only have cars manufactured post 2003 - and I'm unsure of how many 1972 Land Rovers do still exist?

    Apparently 70%.

Whilst I do acknowledge that it is a bit of a polluter, I'm interested to know in an environmental sense what benefits (if any) there are by keeping it going?

There are the obvious economic benefits for myself such as ... no need to pour money every month into a new car that is eventually going to be worthless, not to mention avoiding the new car service extortion.

So what I want to know is how far do I have to drive my old clunker to equal the pollution etc created through the production of a new car? Given also that a lot of people are now turning cars over quickly to minimise tax ... say every three years, is it fair to say I have saved the amount of carbon required to produce 12 new cars?
