  • Alex's shin

6 days ago, early Saturday morning I knocked my shin against the side of the bath. Didn't hurt much but blew up like a balloon in seconds. I evidently burst a vein. Well, I've been sharing and showing everybody at the Tangler Mansion my leg in the intervening days seeking solace and comfort that ultimately I'll pull through. Figured it was time to share this with all of you. Over the coming days I will post more updates on the leg and further photos showing how it's doing. Comments are welcome.

  • Ribena drinkers anyone?

Tamsin who is 11 does the wine thing - kind off. When we have supper she'll sometimes insist on having her milk in a wine glass. Fact that it's white and not at all similar looking to wine doesn't seem to trouble her.

  • Vitamins increase health risk

Why then do the really nice people in my health food shop tell me that all these incredibly expensive vitamins and supplements are worth their weight in gold?

  • The bottle of "wow" gathering dust

I've just started those Arnica tiny odd shaped pills under the tongue 3 x day for my shin (see 'Alex's shin'). How do these homeopathic pills work? Can understand the benefits that might ensue from rubbing Arnica cream or ointment onto an ailment but sucking on these pills? (Hope I haven't negated any chance of them working by casting this doubt).

  • Google health

I used to do heaps of said self-diagnoses. Got myself into awful states of worry as a result, convinced I only had weeks to live and ended up repeatedly having to hug my (female) doctor with relief when told I would survive. Prefer now to take advise from people in the office. As none of us know what we are talking about, whatever predictions do ensue are somehow easier to swallow.

  • War wound stories

Aged about 9, ions ago I was staying one Christmas at Moyns Park in England.

Anyway we were playing 'sardines' in the house which is a little like 'hide and seek' save you go join the person hiding when you find them. Once you have several people hiding together it looks like a can of sardines. The previous 'Go' I had seen a bigger girl enter what I thought was a cupboard. I figured it would be a good place to either hide myself or look. I opened the door, stepped forward and promptly tumbled 5 metres down stone steps into a coal cellar. I landed on my head unconscious. Waking up sometime later all I had was a big bump.

  • Omega 3

I've been taking flax seed oil which is very high in Omega 3s for several years now and as those who know me can attest, I am BRILLIANT.

  • Edamame

Edamame are also fun to eat. Just been in Japan where they are everywhere. Kids love 'em.

  • Creatine

For those of you thinking about taking Creatine, here's a photograph of Phonga taken earlier today. Phonga will be 18 in May.
