  • How I Lost 5kg and Kept it Off

Don't you think the 5-kilo thing is funny. We all "want to lose 5 kilos". I'm the same.

  • Diabetic hypos blame-free

People with diabetes have often wondered whether hypos (hypoglycaemic attacks - induced by low blood sugars) can have long-term effects on brain function. The The New England Journal of Medicine reports NO.

  • Ribena drinkers anyone?

I used to pretend that the ribena I was drinking was wine when I was younger....

Imagine my disappointment when wine didn't taste like that!

I do that for my kids. Well I used to. They would have ribena in a plastic wine glass if we were having a special meal and were having wine ourselves (or should I say "Poppy Juice" as Oliver calls it - my dad likes wine and Oliver obviously noticed that!). I stopped buying it whehn I found out how much sugar was in it!

  • Lemon Grass

I made vietnamese rice paper rolls and used lemon grass to marinate some chicken before cooking it. It was combined with garlic, fish sauce and ummmm, can't remember what else. I had to chop it though. It's the first time I have ever cooked with it so I was unsure if I was chopping the right bit. It seemed pretty fibrous and was meant to be pureed but I ended up with stringy bits. Still tasted good though. I would love some more recipes for lemon grass.

  • Hayfever

I finally got myself in to a chemist and bought some hayfever tablets. No sneezing, wheezing, itchy eyes or runny nose. I am a happy woman!

Because hayfeever comes and goes I always find I have no tablets left when the symptoms return

  • Ergonomics

Went to yoga today and my neck lost all its stiffness. Been working for a few hours and have realised how bad the height of my desk is - my neck is killing me again. I don't know about you but I'm a bit blase about this sort of thing - when really a few small changes would probably make a world of difference.

  • Home remedies

     Interesting...

3/20/2007: Girish from Chicago, IL writes: "Here is why (I think)
Cayenne Pepper works: Cayenne Pepper contains Capsaicin - which known
to us for long time as a great pain killer. When one gargles with
pepper powder, capsaicin overloads the nerve endings in the throat
giving instance relief from the pain. If you gargle on a regular basis
then the nerves are overloaded and you don't feel pain. Capsaicin is
used in chronic pain management exactly for same reason. I don't think
it has any curative qualities in this case (like getting rid of the
actual infection), but the pain relief is great! Cheers, Girish"
