can't remember where exactly we were talking about Autism.....
anyways, just came across this video
an adult is explaining in her terms -
I work with kids mostly so i'm pretty blown away
CNN recently did an article with Amanda Baggs after she posted her video.
watch the other two videos that show Amanda interacting with Sanjay.
very clever answers...........
I liked that...
Aman, I really recommend that you read 'Abnormal' by Michel Foucault. Reading his work has changed my thinking (as you know) but I think it would be immensely valuable to you.
What she says in the clip is basically what Foucault interrogates - he draws out how these 'diseases' or catagories were created, their role in society and how our own 'normal' subjectivities are contingent upon finding, labelling and classifying 'other' or 'abnormal' subjectivities
There's also Madness and civilisation, tho I have only read excerpts myself
okies dokie
Mmm. That was excellent. I thought her comments about the construct of thought were interesting - also the judgements made if thought is not considered 'rational'.
I also loved her comments about her being described as someone who does not engage with the world around her. Yet she interacts with the world far more than a non-autistic person. So interesting.
Yeah!!! I'm now trying to figure out if the kids i work with are forming perceptions of me on a daily basis - and going - What an Idiot!

Seriously?
Man that would be so awesome!!! I can't wait for parents to start suing Bio energetic companies - for all the false hopes and expense.
What are bio energetic companies?
And won't you be out of a job if this is true?
(just kidding.... I would like nothing better than the kids to be happy and healthy)
I wouldn't mind if i was out of a job if this was true - but then i might not be. Cause reversing the effects does not mean that they don't need help learning.
since that's what i do - doesn't matter.
Oh yeah, good point
