Hi Ken;
I used your template to start a page on the FTSE all world ex US Index. I sketched in links, and appropriate text.
My browser won't load the Vanguard prospectus, so you should link this.
You may want to fill in the discussion, especially as it relates to the foreign tax credit, especially in reference to the fund of funds Total International (with a link to the FAQ post on the two funds.) In this instance the fund vs. ETF question may stand for some expansion also.
And, of course, verify the links.

1. If you are holding an actively managed fund, the manager's style (size and value/growth) and /or security selection weightings can be quite different from market weighting. Thus the return can vary from that of the market.
2. If you are holding an international stock fund, you should be aware that Vanguard employs a practice known as "fair value pricing" to determine a fund's closing NAV. Foreign bourses close early in relation to the US market, and there are times in which a great deal of market moving information comes to the market during the time lag. One feature of the mutual fund timing scandals of the early 2000's were certain investors who attempted to arbitrage the expected change from the "stale" foreign closing NAV prices of an international mutual fund into its expected closing US NAV. Fair value pricing is employed in instances where news indicates a substantive change in market value from the closing home market price. The adjusted price is used to more accurately reflect the "true" market price for US investors, thus foiling would-be market timing arbitraguers.
3. If your fund is paying out a dividend and/or capital gains distribution, the NAV of the fund will drop by the per share amount of the distributions on the payment date. The investor's economic position is not changed by the ditstribution, regardless of whether the distributions are re-invested in the fund or taken in cash.
first draft attempt.
regards,
Barry

Announcement: Our Proposal to the Board has been posted
Fellow Wiki members:
I have posted our Proposal for the Creation of a Forum Wiki for the Forum Administration Committee to examine. As suggested by wiki members, I included a few direct links to some of our Wiki pages to give the Committee a sample of our efforts. I provided them with a link to Grabiner's project of developing a FAQ for the forum; a link to the fine page on books; a link to the page on the Total Bond Market Index; as well as the reference page on Money Markets. I also pointed out that the folder sidebar was the easiest means of finding wiki pages in our infant wiki.
If it is any solace, a number of individuals who are members of the Committee have expressed admiration for our efforts, and agree that our Wiki is a very good thing.(These expressions of support came when I e-mailed some of them with a progress report on our efforts; we shall have to see how they judge our proposal.)
I will try and keep everyone abreast of how subsequent events transpire.

Latest Iteration of Proposal to the Board
I have fashioned an updated version of our Proposal For The Creation of a Forum Wiki, incorporating the many fine contributions of the membership. Feel free to add to or emend the current iteration until it is ready for presentation.

No problem. I am not quite clear on exactly which functions those without administrative status can actually use. (By the way there are a number of functions listed in the platform menus that are only available upon upgrading to a paid version.)

Hi guys:
I have started drafting copy for our formal presentation proposal to the Forum Administrative Committee. Feel free to write and edit copy; I would like this proposal to reflect the thinking and desires of the people who have made this effort such a success; not to mention lessening the burden of my having to conceptualize every argument and writing everything out.
I am in agreement with Ken's comments. We can edit all copy until we get it right.

nisiprius, who has experience with wikipedia makes the following points;
1) I don't see why the wiki software shouldn't just be MediaWiki. I know very little about it except that I know individuals who've successfully installed it on personal websites, so it can't be terribly difficult; and having used Wikipedia it's obviously a great convenience to have them work the same way... and I'd guess Wikipedia's popularity must make it the predominant Wiki software currently.
2) I'm not a Wiki-sociology maven, but I'd urge the adoption of something akin to Wikipedia's Neutral point of view and Verifiability policies.
This means that if you want to write an article advocating (say) gold, you need to cite sources for what you say, because of verifiability. The sources can, of course, be opinionated goldbugs, but you can't say "Gold is the only sure protection against inflation," you have to say something like "So-and-so wrote: 'Gold is the only sure protection against inflation.'"
And, if someone else has a citable source deprecating gold, and wants it in the article for balance, you need to allow it, because of neutrality.
this may offer some guidance for us when we get around to posting a procedural guide to the wiki.

Hi simba:
Presently all the FAQ pages are developmental. the FAQ is simply based on forum members responses to this post.
Grabiner has a FAQ ultimately destined for posting on the forum. The Vanguard FAQ is a stub.
I am not very good with technical issues. At present, until we get an idea of what the board might decide, I have kept everything as simple as possible, keeping in mind that we will likely have to migrate content on this wiki over to a new, and different forum platform. We welcome your expertise however, since we (or at least I) sorely need it.![]()

Hi Mike:
I emailed both Taylor and Rick Ferri with links to your book page, as well as links to both reviews. Both were deeply appreciative of the effort. Taylor wanted to know who was responsible for creating the review, and I passed along your authorship of the page. I have started drafting copy for our formal presentation proposal to the Forum Administrative Committee. Feel free to write and edit copy; I would like this proposal to reflect the thinking and desires of the people who have made this effort such a success; not to mention lessening the burden of writing everything out.
I am in agreement with Ken's comments.
