Hi Ken;
I used your template to start a page on the FTSE all world ex US Index. I sketched in links, and appropriate text.
My browser won't load the Vanguard prospectus, so you should link this.
You may want to fill in the discussion, especially as it relates to the foreign tax credit, especially in reference to the fund of funds Total International (with a link to the FAQ post on the two funds.) In this instance the fund vs. ETF question may stand for some expansion also.
And, of course, verify the links.
regards,
Barry, I'll get right on it. I actually saw the wiki page before I saw your message above, and I was already thinking about the stuff I wanted to add.
We have a slight case of unintended consequences here. I created the pages on Target Retirement Funds, Total Stock Market Index, and Total Bond Market Index partly to provide models for the many similar articles the hordes
of wiki newbies could write.

I managed to link directly to the prospectus, though I had to look at some of Vanguard's source HTML to do it. Vanguard does not make it easy. I guess I don't understand what you mean when you write that your browser won't load the prospectus. You need something like Acrobat Reader associated with your browser to open PDF files. Ask me if you want to know more.
My brief discussion of the foreign tax credit would benefit from some hard numbers. The 0.09% FY 2007 value in your monograph may be misleading, because it doesn't cover a full year. I'll leave the issue to your discretion.
Ken,
Just qualify any first year partial year tax attribute number (if you even use it) with the qualifier that it is a partial year number.
It is not an acrobat reader problem with Vanguard pdf. files. I cannot open the links. If I try to open it (with the right side of the mouse, all I get is a load of the current page in a new tab. I have tried clearing cookies, and blocks, etc, to no avail.)
If you do a normal left click of the prospectus link on the FTSE wiki page now, what exactly happens?
Also tell me what browser you're running. I assume you're using a Windows PC?
A left click is a dead response. Cooliris, which I also use is also dead; I use firefox in a Windows PC.

Ken - If you want the writers to use these as templates, tag the existing pages as templates, so when someone starts a new page, they can select one of the existing pages as a template. You probably know this already, but others may refer to FAQ for wiki contributors to create templates

OK, we'll figure this out. Go to the Tools menu, and select Options. Click on the Content selection at the top of the popup. In the File Types section, click the Manage button. You should see a table, the first column of which is Extension. Can you find a line for the PDF extension? If so, tell me what the rest of the line says.
I'm not familiar with Cooliris.
It says "open with adobe acrobat"
Ken:
I can open your link on the page; but Vanguard's site pdf links are still dead.

All right. Double click on that line of the table. A Change Action popup should appear. I bet the last choice is selected right now: The Adobe Acrobat Plugin. Select the first choice instead: Open with the default application. Click OK.
See if this helps. I've had real bad luck with the Acrobat plugin myself.

I bypassed a bunch of Vanguard's garbage.
