After looking at QuotationsBook.com for the first time, here is my initial review of the service:
The Start Page

Most of the suggestions above are more opinions than concrete problems, but some of the things I believe are important. The start page should probably try and fit without a scrollbar. I feel that the user would rather click through than scroll down on the first page. The page should provide a graphical and information rich description and navigation of the site, but most of the content should be under that page.
I think the navigation should be consolidated into several categories (with different formatting for the various types). For instance, About, Press, Stuff, and Forum all seem like site related things rather than user related things (possibly with the exception of Forum). The user related things should probably be more prevalent than these options, People and Subjects should be at the forefront. The invite link might only be shown to registered users. Also, I think the login form should be removed unless needed. Have a button that uses Javascript to pull in the form rather than keeping it on the page all the time (thus freeing up room for more content as well).
